does anybody here sell used auto parts? i'm curious on view counts and how long items take to sell
I imagine used auto parts selling is a very saturated market on Ebay. I am getting very low views and I'm wondering if I should just be patient and expect things to take 2 weeks to a month or more to sell. Or if I pricing too high etc.
How long does it typically take you guys to sell parts? I sold one part so far. It was a 2016 sonata hybrid mirror that sold for $50 with free shipping and I did not promote the ad. After all my fees counted for from ebay and the junkyard I profited $10. I see some guys selling these for more. $75 etc.
I'm brand new to selling auto parts and also selling on Ebay so I'm trying to learn what is normal and what is not normal for selling times and views. My views are terribly low on all my items. I am coming from facebook marketplace selling mowers locally where the views are through the roof and I can have a mower sold in 2 or 3 days easily with it priced high. Obviously entirely different market but I'm just tryng to see what's normal in the ebay used auto parts market for selling time and views etc.

·6 months agoWe've been selling NOS auto parts on here since 2008. Here's what I can tell you. The first thing is, don't ever expect anything to sell right away. Plan on long term, keep adding new items and just let them ride. Update the listings every once in a while, be competitive with your pricing and use "free shipping" unless you're selling very heavy or large packaged items.
We have parts listed that we first put up in 2008, either they're quantity listings or they just haven't found a buyer yet. And yes, even parts that have been up that long do sell eventually. We sell listings that old every month. (They are not the original listing, they were updated and relisted many many times over the years and the pricing has been competitive.).
It's a slow crawl business until you build up a sizeable inventory. We're still pulling from an inventory that was compiled over 60 years and have no need to buy anything new.
I'd say the toughest part is that some big sellers have shipping deals that make it possible for them to sell an 8 pound center link for $22 with free shipping... For me that's impossible, so items like that are scrapped. There's just no value in them. Which is a shame because these are vintage US made parts that won't ever be made here again.
And you have to us Promoted listings if you want to survive.

·6 months agoEven New Parts are Impossible to Sell because of Ebay being favorable to China. I found one Chinese Seller that has the same Ignition Coil Set for Fords listed over 500 Times. The same Part listed over and over and over with different pricing, different years, models, but all the Same Part. He obviously is a Chinese Manufacturer and has A License to Keel in America.
I remember years ago i went thru many Account Restrictions and Holds before they (Ebay) let me go. It wasn't even 2 copies of the same part. It was two similiar looking parts and they accused me of Duplication and I got smacked with an account Restriction. Believe it or not we have many Scars while they Ravage US.

IMHO The Tariffs need to be Increased by 35% more.

·6 months agoNot just auto parts but anything.
The age old question "How long does it take to sell something?"
Last week I had something that I listed and sold the next day.
Some of my items have been sitting for over a year without selling.

·6 months agoUsed parts are a hard sell. You need a Dismantlers License from the State, a Bond in A Lot of Money, Copart Registration, a Warehouse that's Zoned in accordance to your ideas, and Money to buy Porsches and AMG's, Zimmermans etc. Are you a Millionaire ? Obviously not as you wouldn't be here hawking a few pulled parts at Picka on Ebay.
I have a Trashed boat pump on Ebay that's worth many hundreds and hundreds of dollars in new condition. But in used conditions i have it listed at 36 bucks. It will sit and sit and sit for eternity.........until

Buying an entire car, disassembling it and listing the parts on eBay has issues.
A trailer or hiring a tow truck.
A notary and transferring the title to the new owner.
A lack of parking and storage space for city folk.
The appraisal, photography, description composition and listing labor for 1,000 one-offs.
Listing large or heavy parts on CL or MP for local pickup with limited success.
A trailer or hiring a flatbed tow truck to haul the eventual carcass to a scrapyard.
Drop shipping parts without having inventory has another set of issues.
Out-Of-Stock strikes leads to penalty FVF, selling limitations or permanent suspensions.
An alternative business model is the You-Pull-It-Yourself salvage yard.
A seller starts on the Advanced Search screen.
Exclude words and select Used within the filters.
Distill the sold listings down to 3,000 to 6,000 used parts.
Browse through those search results to determine the best selling parts for a make, model and range of years.
The seller can do the appraisal, photography and description composition once.
Create a library of listings to reuse.
Ignore 99% of the parts on a car.
Avoid buying slow or non selling inventory or creating death piles.
Replenish a minimal inventory with trips to the salvage yard.

·6 months agoEvery junkyard in America is full of 10 year old Hyundai's. While I am sure there are SOME decent parts on them I still wouldn't give a Hyundai a second look in a salvage yard unless it was a pre-2000 model as those are not hitting the salvage yard anymore and they crushed all the ones they had years ago.
If you want to sell auto parts on ebay I would suggest doing what a lot of the pros do and look for cars with expensive parts that rarely or never hit that local salvage yard. Example, see a broken down 90s Jaguar or 80s Mercedes (particularly a metal bumper model), pop up on facebook marketplace, buy it, tow it home, strip it, then junk the carcass.
Example, you can probably buy a broken down 73-89 Mercedes SL or 300D for under $1000 when one pops up local. You will break even on just the lights, bumper and grill and the rest of the car will be profit.

·6 months agoAt a glance, it would appear the items you are listing have tons of competition.
You have to be seen in order to sell. AND, any more, for the most part, that's just a waiting game.
Your side view mirrors, they should be priced lower than the others that are the same color. Color is what sells those. If you have an Astro Blue mirror, ignore the prices on everything except other Astro Blue ones.
I personally would stay away from side view mirrors.
Stick with dash trim bezels, and console lids are always good.

·6 months agoIt's a crap shoot.
If someone needs that particular part, it may sell quickly.
If no one needs that particular part, it may sit a while.

·6 months agoJust like any other item, it depends on the item and if anyone is looking for one.
Could take a couple weeks to sell or a couple years.

·6 months agoHey, definitely good to be patient and make sure your listings are optimised. Parts can have anywhere from a 30-90 day sell rate depends on the part.
I would recommend thinking about more than the ebay sales channel. We've transitioned to our own platform e commerce and help others do the same. More control and less ebay fees and hassle. Businesses pairing their own channel with the ebay channel will see more success on both!
Shoot me a message, if interested.
