Do purchases made by the same buyer lower the transaction defect rate?
Hey guys! Unfortunately my ebay level has been lowered to above standard due to the high canceled transations rate. Now, I pay almost 20% fees since I'm from Brazil. I did this because I was being victim from several scammers, so I decided to cancel sales to buyers with 0 feedback. I would like to know if purchases made by a buyer lower the defect rate. Example: if a buyer makes 3 different purchases, will they count as 3 lowering the defect rate, or just one sale? Thanks

·3 years agoYou can't do that. Each time you get a very serious NPS defect. Too many of those and eBay has never said how many will get you banned from selling for life.

·3 years agoIf you are going to ship Internationally you need to track your package and proof of delivery. If you are unable to use a shipping service that provides both for International I would only ship domestically to avoid this in the future. I do not ship Internationally for that reason, and the headache of waiting to make sure all goes well in International transit.

·3 years ago3 cancellations made to the SAME buyer counts as 1.

·3 years agoIf you had let it play out after 4 days you could file a non-payer be able to relist and get your fees back.
I am not sure what you had to lose as you DON'T SHIP until you get paid? Once paid, and the payment clears should anything go wrong with the payment file with SELLER PROTECTION.

·3 years agoIt depends how the buyer pays. If they pay for all 3 items together with one payment, that counts as 1 transaction. If they pay for all 3 items separately, that counts as 3 transactions.
Defects stay on your account for a full 12 months. You'll have to increase your sales volume and keep it high for a full year.
The monthly evaluation occurs on the 20th of each month. It evaluates transactions through the end of the prior month.
- Transactions through April 30th will be evaluated on May 20th.
- Transactions through May 31st will be evaluated on June 20th.
Changes to seller level take place on the 20th, however changes to fees as a result of seller level changing (ex: Below Standard fee penalty or Top Rated Plus fee discount) go into effect the 1st of the month following the evaluation.
- If you drop to Below Standard on May 20th the fee penalty won't begin until June 1st.
- If you raise to Top Rated on May 20th, the discount for any listings meeting the TRS Plus criteria will go into effect on June 1st.
If you cancelled these sales in the month of April as out of stock, they won't drop off your account until May 20, 2024 (next year).

OP3 years agoOne more question. My next evaluation will be ate 20 may. But my transaction defect rate is only until 31 april right?
stainlessenginecovers
·3 years agoIf your transaction defect rate is until April 30 (there is NOT 31 days in April), then the NEXT evaluation is the date that FOLLOWS that date, so yes, May 20.

OP3 years agoOk, thank you my friend. So now if a do a lot of sales i only could get the standard level again ate 20 june right? Because my level is already decided ebay, cause the defect rate is until 30 april. Right? Sorry for the dumb questions

·3 years agoRight, also it will likely take another quarter before your seller status is back to normal.
You can not cancel sales to 0 feedback buyers, you need to find other methods to deal with scammers.

When you do a cancellation, what reason are you selecting?
How many cancellations have you filed in the past year, or approximately how many?
You can actually get the exact number on your Seller Dashboard which shows you what defects you have in each area.

OP3 years agoHello. First i want to say thank you for helping me. My defect rate is 11 of 300 transactions. When i canceled i put the option "no stock". Yes, very dumb. But the big problem is that the shipping tracking I use for cheaper products doesn't have tracking after arriving in the US. When not delivered, the product was returned to me. The scammers didn't even answer me when I asked if I had arrived. The big trauma was the ebay decisions. Once in addition to having to send the total money, an additional fee of 20usd was charged, and the product cost 16usd. And in this case, the product was never returned, that is, I was stolen.

·3 years agoThe other reason is not much better, cancelling for reason "problem with buyer's address" can be detrimental because buyers can report problem with seller "does not intend to conclude sale," especially when there is no problem with their address.

·3 years agoNot "dumb", it is the proper reason to select when you are doing it for the reasons you are doing it for. You are assuming the buyer is a problem, so there is no other reason you should be selecting.
It may be better to ship using tracking.
You asked the buyer if the item had arrived??? Did the buyer first contact you saying there was a problem or did you just reach out to see if it had arrived? If it was just you doing it to find out if they have it, STOP doing that. You are inviting problems when you do that. If your buyer contacts you, then of course work with them to resolve any issue that comes up.
All sellers are evaluated on the 20th of each month for the period ending the previous month. However that eval turns out, it is effective the first of the following month.
So you have 11 cancellations out of 300 transaction in the past 12 months? In looking at what is visible to the public, it does not look as if you have had that many transactions. Certainly I could be wrong as the public info is very limited.
But lets say 300 is a correct number for transactions you have had between May 2022 and May of 2023.
11 cancellations divided by 300 = 3.667% which as you know is over the allotted amount we can have. It is almost double what you can have so you don't have a penalty fee.
There is no way you can dig yourself out of this problem very quickly. You need more transactions and you need to STOP doing those cancellations. The only way to work out of this problem is to dilute the numbers and to do that you need more transactions. Each month you will continue to stay below standard and therefore have be penalty fee until you fix this problem. So get busy and list, list, list. Because if 300 transactions and 11 cancellations has caused you to be almost double in the defects allowed, then you need to get approximately another 300 or so transaction on your account before you will work out of this issue.
As for your claim you had with your buyer. They did a Chargeback, not a claim in Ebay. A Chargeback is when they file with the credit card company of the credit card they used to pay you. Buyers typically always win these and when a seller loses a Chargeback they are charged $20. If the buyer opens a claim in Ebay the $20 doesn't apply.

·3 years agoThe solution to this problem is using a shipping service that tracks all the way through delivery. If items are low cost and won't support a higher shipping charge then sell them in lots.
The $20 fee is because you fought a payment dispute and lost. It there's no tracking confirming delivery then you have no leg to stand on when fighting the dispute.
Since the items didn't track past their arrival in the US, you don't know for sure if the items were stolen, seized by customs, lost by the carrier, if buyers filed false non-receipt claims, if the items were delivered some time after the claims were filed, or what happened.

"The $20 fee is because you fought a payment dispute and lost. " This only applies to Chargebacks. It does not apply to claims that originate on the Ebay site.

OP3 years agowhat do you mean?

·3 years agoThis is what I posted earlier in the thread. Please take a moment and answer the questions.
Wait, WHY are you cancelling those sales? Just because the buyer has zero feedback? Was that the only factor you used in making your decision to cancel? What reason when you cancelled the sales did you select, that is extremely important.
How do you know they were scammers and not just new members? What did they do or did they say that made you think they were scammers?
This is an issue you have to address as until you do, you will just repeat the action and increase your problem.

·3 years agoHopefully you know the fix.
Don't do that.
brightlightbookseller
·3 years agoYou will not last long as a seller if you cancel sales to new buyers. Both because of eBay policies which will quickly shut you down, and because no one will be able to buy from you who may be actually interested. Educate yourself on common scams, list as Buy It Now with Immediate Payment Required, and stop cancelling sales.

·3 years ago@retrodreamstore It's not good business practice to judge people with 0 feedback because some other people scammed you in the past. You have to let things play out and work from there or you end up harming your own account for possibly no reason.

OP3 years agoHello! After be a victim of many scams, i decided to do that. Now i regret, but there were no options. It was either that or I kept losing money. I was desperate and ebay wouldn't help me. In parts the strategy worked. Now only a small part are buyers with 0 feedbacks, real buyers. And I know very well that a buyer 0 feedback does not mean it is a scammer. I've sold to countless over the years.
