Do international buyers see the full EIS cost when viewing my listings?
I've just had a person write to ask what the total shipping would be if she purchases one of my items. Does Ebay not show the full cost she would pay right there on the listing, from her point of view? To be clear, I did weigh and measure, and put those numbers in.

·3 years agoInternational buyers do see shipping charges, for example your jewelry lot to UK shows $22.26 using ebay international shipping. Duties are shown as $0.00 and to be determined at checkout.
I think that the buyer is asking to get a 'grand total' from to be sure there are no hidden or additional surprise charges.
You should let them know that at checkout, they may be charged VAT Tax (EU countries + UK, usually 20%) and depending on the total value and the commodity code, possibly customs duties.

·3 years agoEIS does NOT included Customs Fees, Taxes etc. (beyond what/if eBay collects) and there is NO WHERE for that buyer to 'ask' for that.
Buyers would be liable for all those fees and most any US seller would NOT KNOW what those costs are anyway, so buyers just have to 'deal with it' when they get the item. It can vary from No Money to 5% to 30% of the cost of the item- just depends on their country and cost of the 'import'.

·3 years agoUK and most european countries are charged VAT up front.
In the two examples below: The first one, Latvia Flight Cover, $150 usd, qualifies for a reduced rate Vat of 5%. making it $157.50.
Of course, not all item qualify for a reduced rate VAT.
The item below the first example, US First Flight Cover, was charged a 20% VAT. Originally $145 usd, and $174 after VAT.
Both examples are from the perspective of Ebay.co.uk. My point was just to show that some european countries are shown VAT up front...I can't say all are shown these fees, but some.

·3 years ago@cardxcraft So, they don't bother showing the VAT (taxes) separately for the buyer?
In fact, the dollar amount SHOWN, even on the listing, already Includes the VAT I see (Item that is $29.99 US$ is shown as @$28L but when you click it, it shows it's really $23L (and then the tax must be added)

·3 years agoYes; it's right there. Buyer must be looking at the .com instead of .ca or .au etc. Tell them to go on their country ebay website, try putting the item number in (I did and it did NOT work) or they'll have to find it by searching.

·3 years agoThere are 50+ ebay international websites;
instead of .com (US)
.ca is Canada
.au is Australia etc.
I look at those sites using a different system so I'm not logged in; to see how my items are being shown. Did it years ago, then stopped selling Int'l. Since EIS, I'm back on Int'l so wanted to look.
On another note; found out the following:
Items over 12" in length, even though they ship here in the US, 1st Class for about $5-$6; they were $67 in Australia (because I used Padded Manila Envelopes, sizes 10x8, 14x10 and 16x12;
So...for $72 bought 100 boxes that are 10x8x4 that I will use; then 'bulk edited' all those items and now the shipping went down to $30 (for the buyer)

OP3 years agoThanks so much for your help. I've replied with this information and asked if she can see the shipping cost that way. Hopefully she'll answer. Of course there is always the possibility she could already see the EIS cost and was trying to ask how much it would cost if I ship directly (she provided her full address and all). But she didn't say that specifically, so I just don't know.

·3 years agoIf a buyer is signed in and the seller ships to their county, they will see the same shipping price regardless of which site they are on.
There was a difference with the gsp as the import charges would not be shown on .com until checkout. On most or all of the other sites, the import charges would be shown next to the shipping charges.
EIS does charge import charges in some cases. I'm not sure what the criteria is but on some listings I will see "import charges shown at checkout' (or something like that). When I checked, both .com and .ca showed a similar message and in both cases I could not see import charges until I clicked on checkout.
