Difficulty with a buyer
the buyer purchased items from several different auctions , I sent him a personal check for $70.00 discount , he cashed it on the 29th now on the 30th. He’s asking to return several of his items with no explanation why

You likely understand now from the other posts that sending that darn check was not a good idea.
But I would like to know WHY you sent a check instead of refunding through Ebay? You are an experienced seller.
Is it because you would have had to make multiple refunds because the items sold are of a dollar value that you would have to do that to get to a full $70 refund? If that is why you did it, I understand why, but still because it was so much easier for you, you had to know that you were not protected in any way by doing this.
Just do the best you can. Accept the Request for return. You've lost that $70 and the buyer is likely thankful for your donation. But just learn from this, don't do it again, and refund the buyer once the items are returned.

·1 year agoWhy did you not send the refund back through ebay? As far as Ebay is concerned, that never happened.

I wouldn't respond to buyer emails as well.

For future consideration, if you are wanting to allow "combined shipping" and invoice a buyer for a revised cost of shipping for multiple auction wins, I suggest you turn these off:

Buyer Rules:
*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.
*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.
Click submit or save.
These settings are what is causing your buyers to have to pay separately at full shipping cost, and the ensuing drama that results in the first place.
Sounds to me like you gave away $70 and now the buyer is returning for a refund. If the buyer opened a not as described return you will have no choice but to refund in full.
If you wanted to give the buyer a discount all you needed to do was send a refund through eBay.
I wouldn't send personal checks anymore if I were you.

·1 year agoSending a check for a discount was not a good idea because it does not show in your sold prices, therefore you paid higher fees on the amount sold. eBay has no record that you sent him a refund this way and since it is not in their policies to handle any part of a transaction outside of eBay, they will not take it into consideration that you already sent him a check. All they have is the original amount the buyer paid and that is the amount you will be responsible for refunding if the buyer files a "not as described" claim(s). I'm sure you have figured out now that this is going to cost you extra money.
Did the buyer ask for a product discount after he purchased several items? The time for negotiation is before a sale is completed. If the buyer bought several items and paid for individual shipping on them and you wanted to refund part of the shipping he paid, there is a place on your sellers hub where you can partially refund a buyer for a shipping discount.

·1 year agoI'm sure you realize that sending a personal check was a bad idea. Always handle any refunds within the transaction to avoid a problem like this. Since that check was cashed, there isn't much you can do about that now. If they file returns be sure to respond within the time frame given. If they didn't file a return, they may be fishing for more easy money back from you, so be aware.
