Designer Jewelry Authentication Failed
I have been selling my designer jewelry on eBay for a few months now. Despite hearing horror stories I decided to give it a go. I’ve sold 2 that were authenticated and shipped but last week I sold an Effy ring—A ~6k ring for $1800 and was required to send to authenticator. They said the ring was determined to be authentic but the gemstones were not as described. I used the exact same description the Effy website used for the ring. Is there a way to contact the GIA authenticators to ask for specifics so that I can relist and avoid this issue? I’m so apprehensive about listing anything again if it’s just going to be a gamble of whether or not the authentication will pass.

·1 year agoIs it possible that Effy's online marketing materials may have overstated the quality of the stones in your particular ring?

·1 year agoI don't know about contacting the GIA authenticators but a jewler may be of help. I know I've taken items to jewlers in the past I'd previoulsy given business to and got the information I wanted. One kind of acted like I was a bother until I asked if he could appraise the item then he opened up and gave me all kinds of information. Back then it cost me around $100.00 for an appraisal if I recall but it was worth it to me at the time. It no doubt costs more since I've had anything appraised but it may be worth looking into if you can't find the contact info. you want.
