Declined after Sale
Summary: mrskic_28 expressed confusion over a notification that a sale was 'declined' despite printing a shipping label and it showing as 'sold.' Several participants, including krazzykats and albertabrightalberta, advised not shipping the item until payment is confirmed. jdbelt1960 and dbmm-media discussed potential reasons for the 'decline' message, with dbmm-media mentioning the typical 30-day hold for new sellers. Concerns about USPS label expiration and protocol were also discussed by christworks and others, highlighting variability in enforcement.
I had my first sale yesterday. Printed shipping label. Received notification that the offer was declined this morning. It doesn't say cancelled, it says declined. Im confused that it shows sold but declined. Do I need to ship it since it doesn't say cancelled? Thanks.

·2 weeks agoA buyer can decline an offer and then immediately purchase an item.
I've had it happen several times.
Usually on a very value priced item that is newly listed....a buyer thinks twice about passing and wants it before a rival gets it.

·2 weeks agoVoid out that shipping label and reprint when ready to ship.
Are you sure that message is for that sale. Look under selling on your my eBay page and go to sold. Let up know what that says. Something is not right here.

·2 weeks agoI would not ship until the funds are off hold. A shipping label is good for a couple of weeks, so there's no big rush to drop it off today or tomorrow...

·2 weeks agoFYI USPS is not supposed to accept packages with shipping labels that are more than 3 days past the purchase date. They've started cracking down on this. Your local USPS may not, but just know they are supposed to now.

·2 weeks agoYou mean they will actually look at it? Here they just toss mail into any mail box. I'm always getting other peoples mail.

·2 weeks ago · EditedThe USPS stations I use are extremely efficient with mail dispatch and handling, but they don't worry about a label as long as it scans properly - it just gets scanned and goes into the pile with everything else. I try not to use delayed labels, though.

They have had a loose rule for a while. Back in March or thereabouts they rolled out upgrades to the clerk work stations so if a label is scanned and it is more than 3 days after the purchase it an alert comes up on the screen. The clerks are supposed to reject them.
If the auditor anonymously catches them on that, they can get into trouble.
The reality is when it comes down to the front line many do not follow protocols. The mess with the HazMat packages is due to clerks accepting packages that should have been rejected. Since they can't seem to do their job, they now put it on the customer to make sure it is correct or pay a fee.
Last week I had to explain to a clerk the concept of shipping zones. Eight years working for USPS and they had no clue about them.

·2 weeks agoWith any luck they will also fix the scanners so they can't mark a package as delivered when it's picked up. Have had more than one buyer get yippy about that.

·2 weeks agoOffer declined is typically when the seller makes a counteroffer and the buyer rejects it. I am surprised eBay let you print a label on an incomplete sale.
mrskic_28
OP2 weeks agoI was surprised too. The "declined" notification came this morning. Im thinking there must be a delay or something so I am just going to ship them. Looking atthe order it doeslook like its processed. Thanks!

Does your order show as "ship now?"
mrskic_28
OP2 weeks agoIt shows shipped. I assume because I printed the label. So I will just ship it. Thanks for your comment. Its my first sale & that notice threw me off. If I don't get my $25 then lesson learned.
krazzykats
·2 weeks agoDid you receive the monies?
Do not ship unless you were actually paid.
mrskic_28
OP2 weeks agoThanks. I appreciate your reply.. It shows on hold. I assume it may say that because I just entered my payment option yesterday. Its only $25 so I will just ship it and see what happens.

·2 weeks agoI'm only seeing a pair of Coach shoes that sold for $30. Are you sure it's not the payment for that item that's on hold?
Is there a different $25 item you sold?
mrskic_28
OP2 weeks agoThat is the same one. I counter offered at $30 then it she bought at that price & it says sold. The referenced $25 is just what I make after fees. Im going to ship them. Thanks.
