"Custom Orders" are on the rise
Seems like since eBay implemented the problem of making buyers pay immediately if I send them an offer has gotten a rebellion in the way of requesting custom orders. That and I think when there are many items and they want a big discount, it's easier to get a custom order than to deal with offers on each item.
I've just gotten my fifth customer requesting a custom order (he's going to get back to me with a list of stamps from the store to make a special lot), that way I can put combined shipping on the lot and give a discount at the same time. I just have to remember to be removing these things from eBay as I make the custom lots, to avoid an OOS defect later. (I'm mentioning that because I forgot to do one tonight... but got to it before it sold).
Anyone else getting custom orders to avoid the situation of paying for each individual item? I've been talking to my buyers and they're all telling me this is a new thing, sometimes they have to do it every time, other times it's infrequent. (One of my token customers only has to pay immediately on an offer I send to her sometimes).
For 2-3 items most are paying for each item and getting a refund. When the item is $10-15, I know I lose 30 cents, but I mind a little less if it means making a sale (and earning buyer's trust for doing the refund promptly, my promise is within 1 business day). When they're making $2 offers on things that cost $2.50, I would prefer a list and make a custom offer. That's what I've been suggesting if I get anyone making many offers of low value.
Just wondering if this a new trend... in the past I got one such request every few months and now I've had something like 12 custom orders since this eBay change took place.

·2 years agoI just shut off the immediate payment option so people who want to purchase multiple items don't have to go through that and I can combine shipping.

OP2 years agoMine is shut off, doesn't matter, this is a new thing eBay is doing on offers you send buyers, not on offers buyers send you. There are many threads about this (which I don't have handy at the moment, but one is a thread I started about a buyer who sometimes makes immediate payment, sometimes gets to add it to her cart and combine).
If the buyer is buying from your store, they can go and add items to their cart and combine, but if you are sending direct offers to buyers who are watching your item, they will either get a screen that says "Decline/Check out" or "Decline/Accept". If they get the check out screen, eBay is making them pay immediately with no possibility to combine.
In trouble shooting this in many threads we determined there's no way for a seller to shut this off, and there's no way to determine which screen a buyer will get. Some of my buyers were forced to pay with each other, others were given a choice to 'add to cart' 50% of the time.
