Creating selection options
I need to be able to have the listing show that there are options for which product to choose. Just like some listings have color choices from a drop-down menu. I need to add a drop-down menu to my listing but cannot find a link or instruction anywhere on the page. Anyone know how to do this on the selling page?

·4 months ago@christworks is right. Be careful.
I have variations listings where people think they are getting EVERYTHING in the listing even though they had to choose one specific item.
Example:
1" spacer
2" spacer
3" spacer < buyer chose this one
4" spacer
5" spacer
Then later messages me - "I thought I was getting the whole set. You only sent me one spacer."

OP4 months agoYikes. Ok, I'll see if I can spell it out VERY CLEARLY in the description. Good luck!

·4 months agoDon't make variation listings if you don't have to. Customers don't like them. They are toxic and I only suggest using them in very limited circumstances. They often take longer to make than separate listings, and have serious upkeep issues, over time.
Just make a separate listing for every variation, that will get you far more exposure in search and won't take any longer. You only have 4 listings, so you are not exactly bumping up against any limits on separate listings.

OP4 months agoHuh. Never thought of that. Good idea. I'll see how it goes for a bit, then maybe end up with what you suggest. Thanks a lot!

·4 months ago@inhawaii just a thought if you are picturing ALL in the first 'MAIN" picture:
Just picture 1 of them in that Main Photo- since a 'spacer is a spacer is a spacer' and then only in the title do you state "1" to 5" Spacer-YOU choose" etc etc. (as well as assigning the correct picture to come up once buyer chooses".
Also curious, I see your 'Flowbee' spacers and in the title it states 'foot/feet'... what does that refer to?

·4 months agoIsn't it common practice to show ALL the variations in the main (default) photo, then after you select the one you want, show a picture of that version?
If I see a variations listing for a shirt and the main photo shows it in red, blue, green, yellow.
Then I select blue, it shows me a blue shirt, then I select a quantity of 1.
I would never select blue, a quantity of 1, then expect all 4 shirts.
Yes, the man picture for my flowbee parts does show everything, but it also says "choose your style".
I could see the possibility of someone really dumb making a mistake, but I think that 99.9% of people can figure it out.

·4 months agoSome of my variation listings for personalized Christmas ornaments show 3 ornaments to show different names and to show that the female names look one way and the male names look a different way. I have had a few people over the years that somehow thought they would get 3 of them.

·4 months ago@cherylsalerno1013 Word to the wise: Be careful about making your variations too complicated and make it absolutely clear in the listing what the buyer is getting. If your main photo shows all the possible choices, there will be some buyers who think they are getting all of them.

OP4 months agoThanks. I don't think it can get any simpler, but I'll double check.

·4 months agoIt's called a "Variation Listing" and the option is located here on the Listing Page...limited to the Web Version (Not Mobile). Start a new listing from scratch in order to view it. You can't go into a Non-Variation Listing/Draft and attempt to add it. Mind you it isn't allowed in every Category (but when the Variation block is visible it will also tell you that). Variations are just like they say a Variation of a particular item, not really intended to provide a drop down for Different unrelated items. Use the "Edit" Pencil to enter and begin the Criteria. Hope that helps.
