CPAP Accessories
I listed some CPAP accessories a while back and the listings were ended by eBay saying I couldn't list any items needing a prescription. I explained to the rep I called they don't need a prescription but that went nowhere. I also explained CPAP accessories were being sold in large numbers at that very moment on their site. And get this...there is a CATEGORY for CPAP accessories. I'm left really confused by all of this. Has anyone had this happen and is there any hope for me to sell my accessories again? Thanks. Kim

·3 years agoWe know we can’t use eBay to sell CPAP and accessories. What has ANYONE learned about where/how we can sell CPAP?
I have a well running ResMed Airsense 10 with lo5 of new unopened accessories.
Anyone have any ideas how to best sell?

·3 years agoAre you a doctor? Do you have all the permits and licenses to sell DME online? If the answer is yes, then eBay is wrong.

·3 years agoThere is a category for CB Linears and they're illegal. I think when many people type that in a title eventually a category populates for them.

·3 years agoIf the device those accessories go to is a prescription cpap machine, ebay considers the accessories also to be prescription items.

I believe I shared the policy pages with you before. A regular Customer Service rep has NO POWER to change Ebay policy no matter what you say or how you prove your point to them.
You would need to lobby the higher level employees at Ebay to do this. It will not happy quickly and literally could take a year or more to get the policy changed IF you can get them to see your point of view.
So in the short term, there is no way you can sell it here on Ebay without getting yourself into trouble.

OP3 years agoThat’s what they told me. My issue was the hundreds of listings for the same accessories as well as the contradiction of banning items that eBay has an active category for. It’s a huge contradiction.

·3 years agoYeah that is a point that I think is being lost by most here. They prohibit it but they have a category SPECIFICALLY for it. Makes no sense. But then again, this is ebay, where most things make no sense.
Just don't relist it. I have had items ended that they claimed were RX only. Some were extremely laughable at best such as a keypad controller. I have appealed them and got them overturned but I STILL did not relist them on ebay even though they said I could. I just sold them elsewhere.

You can sell non-prescription devices listed in the policy. Some types of devices listed do not require a prescription, those are ok. But prescription devices, and therefore, their accessories, aren't allowed.

·3 years agoEbay has over 2 Billion listings active at any one time on the site. They can't catch all the problems at the same time. You can help them if it bothers you enough by starting to report those listings to Ebay via the Report this listing button that appears on all listings.

The reason there are hundreds of them is because eBay can't keep up with taking them down. How long was yours up before they finally took it down?
It's like cop who can only pull over one car at a time for speeding. In the meantime many other cars are whizzing by above the speed limit.

OP3 years agoIt was just a few hours. My biggest beef was the double standard of banning my items yet having a catagory for the very same items. To me having a catagory for something that can’t be used leads a seller to believe his stuff is fine to sell.

·3 years agoUnfortunately, the masks and accessories do not require a prescription, just the machine. But I understand the eBay policy which makes no sense as usual.

·3 years agoIt is likely that sellers can get pre-approved to sell this stuff. That is a guess on my part, but Ebay seems to do this more and more with stuff like this.

·3 years agoIt looks like many individual sellers have CPAP items listed with household items and not just companies. It's a shame this confusion exists by eBay.

·3 years agoThats only part of the story.
Not all cpaps and other specified devices, are prescription items. They are only not allowed by this policy if they are prescription. Some of the listed devices have models that are not prescription, and can be sold here. The problem is when ebay doesnt follow their own policy and takes down non-prescription items.

Unless something has changed recently, CPAP machines can only be bought with a prescription in the US. There may be alternatives to CPAPs available OTC, but they wouldn't be the Class ll machines i am discussing and that i assume eBay is referencing in its policy.
In a nutshell—CPAPS are Class II medical devices requiring prescriptions for purchase. This is a result of the varying degrees of severity sleep apnea has between sufferers, so a prescription from a licensed physician determines what type of CPAP machine works best for the patient’s condition, as well as what pressure levels must be set for treatment.
In the United States, class II medical devices are regulated by the FDA under the authority of the Medical Device Amendments of 1976. (These amendments established a three-class system for medical devices based on the level of risk they pose to the user.)
I am not an “expert†by any means but a care-giver for an elderly relative over a number of years.

·3 years agoMany of the accessories and supplies for CPAP do require a prescription.
They are often sold by people whose insurance or Medicare paid for them but they have more than they need. They are often unaware that there was a prescription because their supplier got it directly from their health care provider.
It is really tempting to try to sell an extra mask or hose online to make a few bucks, but it is not permitted.

·3 years agoYou actually can buy CPAP accessories most anywhere including on Amazon. There is no prescription required for masks, etc. just the machines. My daughter just bought a full face mask off Amazon with nothing required. I understand this is a grey area for eBay and it is much easier to ban the lot and not abide by real laws. That would require "thinking".

·3 years agoYou not the first and won't be the last. All you really have to do now is NEVER relist them here unless you want your selling career to be permanently ended as you are now on the radar.
CPAP machines require prescription, so this site probably treats many of the ancillary items to also need prescription.
Before you say it; others will eventually be taken down.
