·2 months agoI have reported sellers of fake ray ban wayfarers at £20 to eBay who came back saying they hadn't broken any eBay rules!!! Absolute joke, the site is just full of counterfeit goods now,

·2 months agoIf the listing doesn’t state that they’re counterfeit, they’re not going to remove them based on the price. If you actually get counterfeits, you can then return them for that reason.

Folks here have already told you how this happens. eBay does not 'allow' the selling of counterfeit anything for the reasons stated above.
Just a quick question for anyone who doesn't know why fakes and knock-offs appear on eBay and every other on-line auction site, how would YOU control this on a site with listing numbers and sellers like eBay?
And, just be happy you aren't buying Coach handbags 😉

I remember when JFK was president and I was watching a tv interview with 1st lady Jackie, sometime before 1963…
The anchor asked her what sunglasses ðŸ•¶ï¸ was she wearing and Jackie said, “Ray Ban Wayfarersâ€
I immediately ran right out to buy myself an exact pair thinking if they were good enough for our 1st lady they were good enough for me!
So I purchased my own Ray Ban Wayfarers and I have been wearing them ever since then.
I don’t know how many times that I needed a new prescription for my sunglasses ðŸ•¶ï¸ but whenever my eye 👀 prescription changed I had my current correct one put into them.
Since 1963 until now 2025 I only bought 2 different Ray Ban Wayfarers sunglasses and had my necessary current lenses updated countless times! Was it likely 5x or more or less I don’t know or remember but I remember the time the optometrist told me that I needed a new pair of the glasses and that I couldn’t use this 1st pair any longer.
63 years later I am still wearing Ray Ban Wayfarers.
I kinda remember spending $250. On the latest sunglasses ðŸ•¶ï¸ my 2nd pair bought.

·9 months agoOk well now you know that if an item is priced lower than what fair market value the chances of it being fake is very certain. All you can do is report it to Ebay and be done. You purchased return it. Ebay will not do anything over your one report. This is a very common complaint around here and the thing you need to know is your rights to a return and you personally being the expert and judge of an item. Yes a $50 price on a $191 item on Ebay will most likely be fake. Don't buy it. View feedback and profile. You will find out very quickly if the seller sells fake items.

there are over 8000 listings for just wayfarer's, do you think that $191 price point will stick?

·9 months agoYou do know that no one employed by eBay evaluates most items for authenticity, right?
In other words, eBay purchases, for the most part, go directly from the seller to the buyer. No eBay employee ever sees them.
Did you make a purchase? Did you pay? When you receive them, if they are not authentic, you know about the Money Back Guarantee, right?

You cannot judge authenticity on price. It's the details of the item itself that prove or disprove authenticity.

There are millions and millions of listings on eBay, and no way to verify the authenticity of each and every item.

·9 months agoAnd there are probably tens of threads here where this topic has been discussed. Bottom line: There is no way eBay con confirm validity of any item sold on their venue unless they have held it in their hands. Even then, it would be a long shot.
If you believe the item is a fake, contact the manufacturer and let them deal with it. Many manufacturers are part of eBay's VeRO program and they watch listings for fakes. If they suspect it's a knock-off, they will have eBay take the listing down. I don't know what happens to the seller in this case.
When buying something on-line, it's Buyer should be really beware.
If you think it's not real, don't buy it!

·9 months agoI hate counterfeit items where the buyer pays for something that it ain't.
But, realistically, an item with a name commands more money.
An example of: Nike shoes...name makes them pricy...but they are made in Vietnam, China and Indonesia being the largest manufacturers.
We consumers are buying a name or label.

When it comes to athletic shoes I'll have to agree.
When it comes to RayBan's some probably buy for the name. I buy them for the protection and longevity. They are rated very high in both regards. Especially the Italian ones not made for export when it comes to longevity. The ones with 5 knuckle hinges versus the ones with 3 knuckle hinges (for export). They export the 5 knuckle hinged ones when there's a domestic overage and I look for them.
I have a pair that is at least 25 to 30 years old that I was wearing in a sunglasses store. The store owner was working and you'd think they were a fancy sports car or something the way he reacted when he saw me wearing them. "Beautiful vintage pair. They have some UV damage to the frame. If you leave them overnight I'll buff that off for free and replace the hinge pins." LOL...(I bought another pair of polarized Wayfarer's just for the RV after that great customer service-5 pin).
That's where I learned to look for like pairs with the 5 kuckle hinges.....................

·9 months agoYou do know some people dont research prices, especially amateur or one-off sellers, and they price it under value. Sometimes people do not know what they have.

OP9 months agoSimply purchase a pair, and then inspect it . These are definitely knock-offs and I've already opened a case with Ray Ban

·9 months agoIf you received fake Ray Bans, you open a return claim on ebay, NOT "with Ray Ban." RayBan won't be issuing a refund for something you bought on ebay!

If you actually purchased a counterfeit item, it would make more sense to open an item not as described case with eBay.
