Cost?
Summary: inhawaii inquired about a potential new "cost" field on eBay's listing page, as they have relied on seller notes for cost tracking. Multiple participants, including bonanza125, confirmed the field's existence, although it's not universally available. Some suggested it might not show for variation listings or may require activation. fullers_uk warned against using it due to privacy concerns, but shire123 pointed out its potential advantages for sellers, especially for tax purposes. Overall, the discussion highlights mixed experiences and opinions about the feature, indicating a phased rollout and unresolved issues with its availability.
In the last few days I have seen 2 different people mention that ebay has added a field "cost" to the listing page.
I'm still not seeing it.
For many years I have been using seller notes to enter my cost.
Is this something that's slowly rolling out and may not be available to everyone yet?

·3 months agoI don't have it, I never had it, And i Would never use it if I had it. Why not just make a notepad text file and put in the item listing ID and next to it put whatever is your cost?
Why would you want to rely on a system ebay has when there are many many glitches with the system ?

·3 months agoIf it's available to you, you have to "Toggle It On" in the [See Pricing Options] Link/Dropdown before it appears on your Listing Page. One of my accounts has it, one does not. They do have issues with it though, at one time last year they confirmed that...probably still are and that is possibly why it disappears every now and then. A continuing saga...

·3 months agoI use Custom label. On your desktop, it's right at the top under your title, on my phone, it's at the very bottom of the item specifics tap. If you don't see it, there is a toggle button to turn it on. From there, go to your listing page, customize the page, and add the custom label as an option. Then you can see from your listings page. It will also show up when you sell the item. You can use it for any notes you want for yourself, such as item location, your purchase date, etc. I just learned of it and it's very useful.

Some time ago........several months, I think, the blues gave the answer that the cost feature had been rolled out to "those eligible". Of course, we never got an answer to the succeeding question of what makes one eligible.,,
Subsequently, I asked in one of the monthly forums and got 2 answers from different blues.......1) it was rolling out slowly, 2) it wouldn't work if you had variation listings. Didn't have time to ask if the variation limitation meant you would not get it for all listings or just not for the variations. If anyone has it who has variation listings, I'd sure be interested in knowing. Both Better Half and I have a couple variations and don't have it.
It was originally touted for all when it was announced...no mention of "eligible" or limitations.

·3 months agoIts a feature I wouldnt use, if you enter the cost in time what could happen is ebay could source the product directlt and sell it themselves on ebay like items on another site "Sold by Hammerzone" its giving away data that you dont need to.
shire123
·3 months agoPlease explain. I think ebay is large enough that they already know what things cost in general. If they even wanted to use that data. Ebay is 99% just a platform for us sellers to list things and sell. And if ebay itself sells things then they really don't get their fees.
Overall the tool if used properly can provide valuable data for sellers. Particularly at tax time.

·3 months agoLOL data is a valuable asset why give it away.
fullers_uk
·3 months agoEbay wouldnt get the fees just the profit on the whole sale of the item, it may not be ebay, they could do it through sourcing on ebay.
shire123
·3 months ago · EditedWho is "they"? Note that the cost data is not available to anyone outside of ebay. Again, cost data is available to anyone who searches the internet for things. It's not a secret.
On the other hand, if you are worried about the cost data ending up in the wrong hands, what about the actual sale price? That, too, would be valuable data that is given away free.
