·4 months agoI use firefox, Better Half uses Chrome......... Both have problems at times, but each of us is happy overall with the one we have.
Both of us have found a reboot is necessary at times and can cure many problems. With firefox, sometimes a download is done, but one needs to reboot the browser and while there is a little square on upper left telling you to reboot......always comes when it's inconvenient, so I dismiss the notice and then forget to reboot.

·4 months agoFirefox does some things chrome will not and provides better security. Chrome is sending data.
My windows 11 computer just updates itself and reboots without my knowledge and erases all my work without warning, cleans out everything.

·4 months agoGeneral question:
Is there something amazing about Firefox that I don’t know? It seems like at least 80% of the browser issues that we see on these boards have to do with Firefox. Is Firefox being used simply because people don’t want to use something from Google or Microsoft?
Seems like the simple solution would be to use a more reliable browser that has more frequent updates and quicker bug fixes. Maybe it is just that eBay isn’t designing and supporting for what many feel to be an outdated browser.

·4 months agoI agree about firefox. It often got so confused that everything stopped working and i had to do a restart. and some applications won't work with it (Tracfone, for example). I loved firefox for years but...
I mostly use chrome now.

Hard to say without knowing what percentage of users on eBay are using each browser -- the numbers may not track the general global estimates -- and also what percentage of the problems are specifically due to the type of browser being used.
Not all users mention the browser being used, even when asked; it may be that Firefox users, being a smaller minority, are more likely to mention the browser type compared to other browser users. But that 80% number seems high to me.
It may be that Firefox users are more likely to have lots of customized add-ons compared to users of other, more popular browsers, which can be an added complication in diagnosing issues.
Often when eBay changes something about the site, a small percentage of users encounter problems when the data that eBay is now delivering conflicts with the user's own cache or cookie data. Since cache and cookie data is unique to each user, it is hard to predict how any changes might affect each individual user's setup. Normally cache and cookie data should update automatically, but that does not always happen as it should. When changes cause these sorts of problems, switching to a different browser -- any browser -- may work better. That means that Firefox users having problems that switch to Chrome may see things work better, but also that Chrome users having problems that switch to Firefox may see things work better as well. That would indicate the problem is not the browser itself, but something to do with the browser history, settings, or add-ons.
Finding that something works in one browser but not another is often the first step in figuring out how to overcome the problem in the original browser.
If the problem persists in multiple browsers, even with a new installation of a browser using default settings and no add-ons installed, then it is less likely that changing browser settings or clearing cache or erasing cookies will help immediately, though those things may still help later on if eBay (or the specific browser software company) makes additional changes later.
Seems like the simple solution would be to use a more reliable browser that has more frequent updates and quicker bug fixes.
Not all problems are caused by browser issues, though. And sometimes browser updates themselves can be the source of new problems, so more frequent updates may cause more frequent issues for some, while at the same time fixing issues for others.

·4 months agoI got firefox updates this week - I've found I need to do a full reboot whenever I get a firefox update to get the system to work right- it is a real PITA since they seem to be coming every 2 weeks lately. Sometimes I need to reboot 2x to get it clean again. I would get goofy things like you mention, or just a clunky system.

That is if you are using windows.
