consumer electronics safety
On ebay,there have been literal dangerous electronic items being sold.I am not calling into question the people selling these;they may be ignorant of the danger.
I came across a youtube channel that specified a type of item being sold ;the item was Dalek lights.
The ones he had on his videos,were dangerous;he had a couple of other videos where others were okay.
There needs to be a multitude of people searching for any potential dangerous item,to stop the sales.

The channel is spelled ,as i have it.. On that channel , In search,type in dalek or dalek lights.
I'm sure ,there are many items of different types ,with various dangerous elements.
How do we resolve this;we need real time resolving these.
Obviously there are other sites selling these types of items.
The sellers and buyers ,all need to be educated.

·2 years agoTo my knowledge, Ebay does not enforce compliance with UL, CSA or other standards. It also does not require FCC Emissions Compliance.
I have little doubt that they will be forced to eventually.

I know something of electronics and of course back when was part owner in a gamestore we'd a tech on hand. I've seen refurbished game systems that folks brought us to fix that were simply put dangerous. Components replaced at other operations with substandard parts but its not just consumer electronics.
If you care to go to almost any car repair shop for example and want your car struts done. They tend to replace the entire strut assembly with whats called "a quick strut" as its cheaper than taking the existing strut assembly apart, putting a new shock absorber into the strut (spring and caps) than just buying brand new quick strut. Problem is those quick struts springs and bearing caps do not meet manufacturers specifications. So, not only will they wear out faster but the change the control characteristics of the vehicle. For example, a quick left turn to avoid a road hazard throw weight unto the quick strut assembly. The weight transfer due to much cheaper springs forces them compress more and when the rebound they tend be far more "bouncy" as again, the spring and bearing caps dont meet the actual original struts. When try recover the car, back to the right, undue bounce comes into the mix. VERY easy to loose control over the vehicle. People buy the Quick Struts as they are cheaper and "New" yet the original spring and bearing caps are reclaimed... The OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Spring is worth MORE money than the Quick Strut!
If you're in pot hole land then quick strut stands far better chances of damaging active front end components as again the compression and rebound do not meet or excess manufacturer specifications.
You might say you get what you pay for.
