Confusing Make an Offer option on auction listing
Made an offer on an auction item with a starting bid of $25. There was a blue make an offer button. So I figured cut out all the auction stuff and make an offer of $35. A reasonable suggestion of what they may get to at auction. Never heard from the seller and the next day I saw the starting bid was now $35. In my offers I had no record of my offer. It definitely was not a bid because it still says 0 bids. What the hell happened? Did I just help the seller out by basically making an invisible "bid" to boost the starting bid to a new level. What is the point of the make offer button?

·4 years agoYou're not supposed to be able to list auctions with Best Offer enabled, although sometimes it gets through.

Best Offer has been an option for auction-format listings for several years. It's right there as an option on the listing form. As mentioned in one of the earlier posts, eBay sometimes adds it to a seller's auctions even though the seller doesn't want it.

Me: WHAT?? How far will this type of thing go? Are sellers going to lose all control of their auctions and payments? Is 'bay going Zombie??

·1 year agoagreed. I am a fairly new regular seller and always have to double check that "allow offers" and the postage hasn't autofilled in with a crazy low/high amount. You would think once you have your template and all the particulars filled in it wouldn't force you to make sure it hasn't changed once listed. More than once I have finished a listing and noticed it's allowing offers which **bleep** me off extra work revising is not what I want ever. Plus between the time I have listed and the time I notice the error I may have had views that probably wonder why it's suddenly been changed or if I'm a flake. eBay assumes just a little bit too much either that or they figure it's what most sellers want. I'm sure it increases their income or they wouldn't have started doing that **bleep**. Either way I'm not wanting extra work after I post a listing.

·1 year agoNot a mega seller so I "preview" my listings before they go "live" to see what is there, and then also have a look once listed.
Not a monumental task.
