Common Funko Pop Scams/Looking for Advice
So I'm trying to sell a lot of 3 vaulted Funko Pops. A dude messages me on one platform and asks if I'm gonna put them in pop protectors. I say yes and we agree on a price. He disappears for a day or two, so I figure he lost interest. Fair enough. I put the item on special and it's a bit lower than what we agreed. Sure enough, he buys it and that strikes me as dishonest, so I cancel the order and block him.
He comes over here, asks me what I'm willing to sell them for, however...I do not know it's him yet. The username is different. Still, we agree on a price and he buys it, but lo and behold, I recognize the name on the shipping label. I message him. I tell him that I recognize him and already declined him once due to some dishonest behavior. I politely informed him that he's been refunded and blocked him.
I might just be paranoid, but he doesn't have a lot of reviews on either platform, he seems to be willing to pay up just fine now, and I'm mostly just gunshy because I don't want a situation where I send him the thing and he claims they're damaged or something to get an easy refund. Is that common? Like am I too paranoid? What's the general rule here? Because I've already had a bad experience as a new seller and am really not looking for another one. I also might just really dislike sneaky behavior.

·5 months agoUm, when you lowered the price on them, he had every right to purchase them for your listed price. It sounds to me like you're the one with the dishonest behaviour trying to gouge a customer. If you wanted the price you agreed to, you should have lowered your price to that.
You had no reason to cancel the sale and block this guy.

·5 months agoAs a newish seller I hope you have made yourself aware of your seller dashboard and what counts against you as defects. Cancellations aren't to messed around with unless a buyer directly asks for one.

·5 months agoWhat was the "dishonest behavior" that you noticed?
Frankly, if this is going to be your reaction to every sale here, you might want to rethink your plan to sell on eBay.
Guy obviously wants to buy. You, because you've had a bad experience on eBay, evidently don't want to sell. Not the best business plan.

·5 months agoIf I'm shopping, online or in person, there's a good chance I might take a day or 2 to think about an item I'm interested in. And if I notice the price has been lowered, that might just be the push I need to go ahead and buy it. There's nothing scammy about that. I have no idea why you thought that was weird.
As others have mentioned, here on ebay, there are pretty strict rules and policies that you should familiarize yourself with if you want to keep your account.
If you're too paranoid to follow through with sales here because you "already had a bad experience as a new seller", then you're probably better off doing in-person cash sales on Marketplace or Craigslist.

·5 months agoI think if it were me, I'd want the sale. The buyer obviously wants the item (they paid for it once, at your price) but they've been blocked. I might message them and say I got confused or whatever, but it's relisted.
It's a niche collectible set, I'd take that sale and move on...

·5 months agoYou offered an item for sale then "politely" cancelled a paying customer? This isn't how this works. If the buyer is newish (as are you as a seller BTW) then they are more likely to be soured on this site and take their money elsewhere. This doesn't help any of us here and ebay doesn't want sellers that don't follow through. Hopefully if you decide to continue selling you can live up to what you offer. I wish you luck.

·5 months agoWell for starters this isn't a scam. You lowered the price and the buyer agreed to purchased. The way you should look at it is you have a buyer interested. Just sell the stuff and not worry about what other bad experience you had before. Majority of the time sales and transaction go smoothly either in person pick up or shipping. If you are going to feel paranoid by this type of behavior then you might need to reevaluate selling online cause things can happen to where you will get restricted.

·5 months agoWhere's the scam? You agreed to a price, he thought about it and decided to wait. You marked the item down and he bought it.
If you canceled, and you had the item in stock, you've just scammed the buyer. You absolutely cannot do what you just did. You do not get to cancel because you don't like "sneaky behavior", which there is zero evidence of btw. What you really need to be worried about now is getting kicked off the platform for scamming your buyer, not whether he was going to scam you.
This kind of behavior, from you, is precisely why ebay has become as harsh on sellers as it has over the years. If you're going to block someone it has to be before they've paid for your item. Once an item is paid for, you'd best ship it, regardless of how you feel about the buyer.

·5 months agoFrom what you have said it sounds like you are indeed paranoid. What you describe as dishonest doesn't seem like that to me. Many buyers have several accounts. You canceled a sale without any reason other than "fear". That is big no-no on ebay so you have potentially put your account in jeopardy.
Selling on-line is definitely scary. At some point you have to trust.

OP5 months agoAwesome. Well I got no one other than myself to blame, I suppose. But I'd imagine I can pick and choose who to do business with as well.

·5 months agoNo, you do not get to "pick" who you do business with here.
Someone buys and you ship -
What reason did you use to cancel?
This buyer can report you and also leave a negative FB.
Canceling a sale because your paranoid will get you removed as a seller quickly.
If you are afraid of getting "scammed" - dont sell anything you cant afford to give away OR dont sell online.

·5 months agoAbsolutely, you can choose who to do business with on eBay. It can come with consequences, but you can choose it.
With this particular buyer – absolutely you don’t have to do anything with him. And you can cancel any future orders from him if he were to use a different account to get around the block that you have on him. That has been made very clear by eBay. You can just use issue with buyers address as the reason for the cancellation if he tries to buy from you again.

·5 months agoNo here. If they pay, you ship. If you cancel, you get a demerit on your account. A few of those and your selling days here are over.
If you want to pick and choose who to do business with, go set up your own website and cancel orders there.
