Charging fee to seller for sales tax
I understand eBay charging a fee on the sale price of an item and even shipping since some eBay sellers abused that long ago and would put item price low and shipping high so fees on both I can accept. What I don't accept is why I as a seller am charged a high fee for the sales tax collected? I don't see that money, I don't get to use that money, and yet eBay charges me a fee on sales tax. How is that even ethical?

Would you do it for free?
As long as I don't have to deal with sales tax, I don't see a problem paying a little fee.

Guess what? You did accept this the moment you listed your first item on eBay. It's clearly stated in the fees information that's readily available to everyone.

·2 years agoNo one but the state that is owed the tax gets to use that money. As for weather it is ethical to charge a fee with tax included it is their venue. Ethics has nothing to do with it.

·2 years agoI look at it as the cost of filing all those pesky state tax forms for us.....
(last count there were over 11,000 different sales tax jurisdictions in the US)
plus....we agreed to it when we list....
every credit card transaction attaches a fee for the sales tax too....
just a sample:
The number of jurisdictions varies widely by state. New Jersey, despite having hundreds of municipalities, has just two sales tax jurisdictions, while Texas has over 1,600. But having fewer jurisdictions doesn’t always translate to less complexity, as states and localities have their own laws and practices for sales tax administration, audits, enforcement, and notices of rate changes.
To break it down even more:
Every $100.00 in sales costs you an extra 1.06 in fees (based on an average 8% Sales Tax)
I'd say that is worth it.....

·2 years agoTry submitting sales tax returns to 50 states each quarter and you will gladly pay that extra.
