·3 weeks agoForget a reserve, just start the auction at the price you're willing to accept.
If t doesn't reach the reserve, you still have to pay the fee for using it.

·3 weeks agoYou're both in the UK and selling on ebay.co.uk.
You've posted this question in eBay's USA Community Forum.
There might be some provision in the User Agreement for ebay.co.uk that requires such a large difference in an auction's starting price and the reserve price. I agree with you, though, that it does seem odd.

·3 weeks agoYou are apparently in the UK, so can't comment on your prices, but have to agree with the fact that a reserve is wasted on used clothing, the eBay category that's the most saturated.

Although you seem to want a reserve, my opinion is that it's a waste of money. You'll pay the reserve whether the item meets the reserve or not. And especially in a saturated category like clothes, you're apt to have items sit through several relistings without selling. You'll spend a lot in reserve fees.
Another thing is that most buyers dislike auctions and unless an item is rare and/or in demand, bidding wars just don't happen.
My suggestion would be to list at a fixed price and if desired, add a best offer option.

It's not odd at all. The idea of a reserve is that buyers are attracted to the low starting price but it's too low for you (as the seller) to sell for that price. So you'd use a reserve so as not to have to sell for less than you want for it.
