Canceling Order: A cluster all around..
Short version:
1. I don't understand the .40 charge.
2. I don't understand why they are asking me to link another payment to make the .40 payment when I already have Venmo linked to my account and never had a problem. It's still linked as I write this.
Longer version: So I've never had to cancel a sale before but I'm forced to for reasons beyond my control. Here's where I'm at....

I'm confused about the $0.40. The payment by the buyer was made, but hasn't even reached my account yet. If the transaction is being canceled then the buyer would simply get everything he paid refunded back to him/her. What's the extra $0.40 for?
Question #2. It says above that $410.74 of the refund is covered by "My funds". I don't even know what that is? I've been using Venmo for several months. It's the only payment method I have linked to ebay. Is "My Funds" my Venmo account? Furthermore I don't understand why they are asking for another payment method to cover the .40, which again I don't even understand what that charge is for.
This is a cluster to me. Any help?

·1 year agoOn another thread.......someone postulated that you can't use a cc for a refund.......has to be a bank account....... I don't know whether that's true or not, but have you tried refunding from the bank account?
deda0804.jj7cp2wrv
OP1 year agoThat's not the case. You can use credit cards, but I tried my debit card too and although it goes through and gets listed under "My Account" as the "preferred payment for sellers fees", it too doesn't show up for me to choose when trying to send the refund. So I know it's not my cards. Ebay called me back and said my info is not up to date on my card/s/ That is not the case at all. There is nothing to update on either card, it's all current. Just to make sure I called both my cc company and bank and all info is up to date. Very frustrating. This buyer is going to think I'm some dirtbag, lol. Thanks for the help.

OP1 year agoI'm not a new seller. I've been selling for decades on and off. Never had a problem issuing a refund before.

·1 year agoI understand that you have had an account since 2015, but you have sold only a few things over the past Decade. That is why I posted information for a infrequent seller. I did not mean any slight or offense to you.
deda0804.jj7cp2wrv
OP1 year agoI did not take offense at all. Truth be known I only sell around a dozen or so items a year these days. Most people just don't seem to leave feedback anymore. I read somewhere (don't remember where so don't quote me) that only about 25% of buyers bother to even leave feedback anymore.
mam98031
·1 year agoThat is something I've posted many times about my experience with buyers leaving feedback.

·1 year agoEvery money processor charges a transaction fee - eBay is now the money processor via an agreement with Ayden. It used to be 30 cents but now its 40 cents - consistent with other money processors PayPal used to be the money processor until their their "divorce" was finalized.
Time changes everything - recall when I paid 6 cents for a 6 oz bottle of coca cola that included the 2 cent deposit - what a difference a day or almost 8 decades makes - am a '44 model. That deposit is now 10 cents per can in the state that looks like a hand - good idea keeps most of the can litter of the roads & highways (except for visitors).

·1 year agoI doubt a Venmo account would work, I don't use it but is it even possible for a third party to debit a Venmo account?
The 40 cent Transaction Fee is only refundable under specific circumstances.

OP1 year agoThanks. I do have my MasterCard linked as well as Venmo. In fact I just double checked so not sure why it's not giving my that option to pay the fee. Thanks again though.

·1 year agoIs it set as your funding source to cover fee's and refunds?

OP1 year agoSo I just added two different NEW cards to my account via the "Add a payment Method" below... to pay any sellers fees, etc. Both cards got added, I get a confirmation window that the cards have successfully been added, both cards show in my account...
However, neither card, nor my MasterCard I already have linked to my account will show up at the bottom of the page where it tells me to select how to pay. It still says to Add a Payment Method, lol.

It's set as following....
Mastercard Credit ending in ****

Is the Matercard expired? If not:
Try one of eBay's social media contacts to reach a USA based customer service. They may be able to sort this out or put you in touch with the correct service group within eBay.

OP1 year agoThanks, I spoke with ebay CS on the phone. They said the problem is on the issuing cards end, i.e., that my cards info is not up to date. Of course this is not the case, I knew that but investigated further. I just got off chat and the phone with my credit cards CS and they went over everything with a fine tooth comb and held my hand while I entered the cards info on ebay (all the info I submitted is up to date.. and the same as it's always been) but I get " We couldn't verify your updated details. Please review them and try again" message.
The only other card I have is Amex and ebay does not accept Amex any longer, so that leaves my buyer thinking I'm a dirtbag, because I have no way, at the present to give her her money back. I did contact her via ebay messages but she has not responded yet.

·1 year ago40 cents is fee that is charged by company that processes money for all EBAY sales. Even if you cancel the sale...you still owe 40 cents for their services.
Usually you need to link your checking account# or credit card to EBAY to cover these types of fees.

·1 year agoThe .40 is a transaction fee that is charged on every transaction.
I have my bank account linked to receive payments and a credit card attached to my account to cover any unforseen, chump change charges I might incur.
For me, it would happen, similar to your scenario, I would have a payout and then a return and end up short a little on funds to complete a refund. If I am a nickel short, they charge my credit card in order to complete the refund.
