Can we PLEASE get a "Dark Theme" option!?
I don't know about the rest of you but I spend so much time on ebay that the white background becomes a trigger for my migraines. On every other site I use they have the option for a "dark theme" display which I always keep on because my eyes can't handle all the white.
I don't know what the issue is but if every other website can offer a "dark theme" option for their site, why can't ebay?
It also looks better. It presents things like they're on a background of black velvet. Much like the displays in high end jewelry stores and auction houses.
It's WAY easier on the eyes, especially at night.
Instead of changing the font on the shipping label page with the next update, I believe this option would be a "crowning achievement" for the company. Something many of us would actually welcome, celebrate and USE!
Just think about it.

·2 years agoI like that dark mode also saves more battery life on a mobile device. I use it on my phone for texts and stuff and I agree it's less blinding.

·2 years agoThis is a common request. I prefer dark mode myself.
Here on the forums there is a dark mode option in your profile settings.
On the eBay app there is a dark mode.
On the website? No dark mode available. I've seen some people force it with browser add-ons, but going that route can lead to unintended problems with page view.
In case you want to explore a tested option, I'm going to quote a post from @eburtonlab , one of the resident "tech experts" on this forum:
If you use a common desktop browser, take a look at an add-on called Color Changer. It allows you to set background, text and link colors independently using a color wheel, it remembers your default on/off settings for each site, and it allows you to turn it on or off with a couple of clicks using an icon in your browser toolbar. It does have a few unintended side effects -- some icons like the notification bell lose their color, and some images in pop-up windows are affected adversely -- but if harsh white backgrounds are bothering your eyes, Color Changer might be worth playing with.

OP2 years agoThat works for the community page. Not the main site. I was referring to the main site.

·2 years agoI'd look into a browser extension.
Given the clown-car quality of its recent .html and CSS endeavors, I doubt eBay has the in-house technical skills to manage a dark theme, quite frankly.
As for a "crowning achievement" for eBay... how about adding a few lines of code that require an unhappy buyer to contact a seller to work out a dispute, before being able to contact eBay? Or demanding some quality control on the seller onboarding process? Or syncing up its computers with USPS so that items with tracking that show delivered cannot be claimed as INRs?

·2 years ago@fbusoni dark mode in the app was actually eBay's "crowning achievement" in 2020...they even won a best ecommerce experience award and everything. 😂
It's a shame 4 years later they still haven't figured out how to do the same for desktop....having some recent experience in this area myself, I could suggest a couple of LLMs that might even help with the coding if they are stuck. 😉

Wow, I was not aware that the bar was so low for such awards. Good grief.
As for coding LLMs... eBay is still struggling with putting colorful balloon icons in our message folders.
Enough said. 😆

·2 years ago@fbusoni they also won a similar "best generative AI experience" award this year from a different marketing media company....so yeah that bar is very, very low but also...you would think that best generative AI could code a dark mode theme? lol

My first association is to HAL in 2001 A Space Odyssey:
--generative AI would insert some javascript into the dark mode theme code that would allow it to explore eBay site operations and functionality.
--the "humans" currently in charge at HQ would not be able to detect this code.
--and corporate would soon find that AI had seized control and would not relinquish it.
Wishful thinking, I know.
