Can I just have a sale??
I would just like to have a sale without being inundated with customers asking for even less & ebay telling me to send offers, Is there anyway to actually do that??, In other words I do a 20% off sale, & that's substantial for a small business, I'm not Amazon Or Walmart & I want that to be My final price,no further offers accepted or given, If I wanted to do a 25% off or a 30% off I would have done so, Is there a way!!

·8 months agoI find it interesting that suddenly EBay & Etsy are trying to incorporate ‘live sales’
no doubt do to the success of sellers on Instagram doing live sales, and, if
they had let us build our individual store status / brand on their platforms and cultivate a following on their platforms instead of blending us all together under their corporation in listing masses,
it would have had similar results.
Because the success of the live sales on Instagram is centered on the sellers individuality of their products and the following they have cultivated by consistency with that product line and service.
It is not based on ‘best price’

It’s all the game playing that has taken the fun away for me- unenjoyable tricks and gimmicks.

·8 months agoYou can just turn off Best Offer altogether and ignore the noise.

·8 months ago@meme6253 ,
Sorry you are still way down on the list to have your spigot turned back on.

Because the list is getting longer.
meme6253
OP8 months agoSo not directed at me,just that the list keeps getting longer?

·8 months agoSold on eBay from 2010 thru 2020. Shipped 1665 net items had buyers ask me can I go lower in my price. I just replied with a comment like I wish I could but if I did would be in the red and only have one of them and might also say " plus baby needs a new pair of shoes" Most often the shopper would buy it at my posted price.

·8 months agoYou had a guaranteed sale to me, but I am a Canadian. I saw a few other items in your store that I would like to have. I would have kept on looking, but you blocked me.
You have some really nice items at decent prices and I don't know why your success is waning.
Good luck eh 😎

·8 months ago@meme6253 I wonder if you'll humor me and actually try what I'm going to suggest. If you're thinking of doing a 20% off sale anyway, what I'm proposing certainly won't hurt anything.
1. Go to your Listings page
2. Sort by listing date
3. Scroll through your oldest listings, and select (check-mark) a nice test bunch of those, say 50.
4. Go to Action > End. Yes, END all of them.
5. Go to Ended listings, and select those same listings, then click Sell Similar. -Now I know you're probably already familiar with the concept of end/SS, in fact maybe you already do it sometimes (I suspect you do because your oldest listing is just from September -but note that eBay treats any listing older than 30 days as "stale"). And what I'm going to suggest is more than regular end/SS. So here comes that part:
You will get the Sell Similar bulk edit page. Here, you'll do these things:
6. Select all
7. Click the Bulk Edit menu, select Buy It Now
8. In that popup window, select Lower By
9. In the next window, plug in 20%.
10. Click Apply.
11. Click Bulk Edit again, select Offers
12. In that popup window, select Don't Allow Offers
13. Click Apply.
14. Submit these changes, to make the listings go live.
Now instead of just having a 20% off "sale," those listings will be brand new shiny listings with new item numbers, getting high placement in search results just for being new, even in Best Match sorting, AND they'll be at a more attractive price for buyers, but without the ability for them to harass you for an even cheaper price.
Just running % off markdown event doesn't work as well here as it used to. I don't know why. It's quite possible that they used to include sale items as an algorithmic factor in search prioritization, but stopped at some point, so that "stale" even outweighs "sale."
If you try a group of at least 50 items (more if you're feeling adventurous), I can almost promise that at least a few of those will sell very quickly. -Come back and tell me if I was wrong, please. Data is data in my book.

OP8 months agoMy sales have started coming back again, But I did what you suggested, but only like 30 items ,Waiting to see what happens.

·8 months agoI like these ideas except for one thing. When ending and using sell similar the listings are new with a more recent start date t han before. I need to know my oldest stuff to decide what to cull if in inventory too long.
I am also less than thrilled with ethe approach of running a sale because no matter what I try the most generout sale percentage doesn't get applied to all my oldest listings which is the point of the exercise.

·8 months agoHey @meme6253
Maybe one of the reasons you're getting questions is your shipping policy that states you may not ship to Canada. If I am interested in any of your listings (which I am), I have to 'Contact the Seller'.
As a Canadian, I won't bother you with silly questions 😎
Have fun and get some sales eh!
meme6253
OP8 months agoI have nothing against Canadians at all, I stopped shipping globally a few years ago because I ran into too many problems, That's all.

·8 months agoI don't entertain offers on anything.
I don't care what it is or how long i've had it.
They get my standard reply.
"I'm sorry but I am not accepting offers at this time."
meme6253
OP8 months agoI didn't know you did that, Good to know.

·8 months agoI just wouldn't take it personally. It's the nature of buying/ selling. Everyone wants to get the absolute lowest price they think they can.
I do what Tarot mentioned and have some sort of standard reply message:
"Thank you for your message, but I'm not offering any additional discounts at this time. Have a great week!"

·8 months agoWhen I still had a 11,000 card trading card store where they were all 2.99 people would send me messages like "this card is only worth 50 cents", and my stock reply was "This store is based upon capturing sales when older cards make it to $3 in value."
sin-n-dex
·8 months agoI got a "this token is worth $2" kind of offer. I replied "it's not worth my time and effort to sell a token for $2". (The tokens cost money, the stamps are often obtained for free as part of a larger lot of stuff we actually want. When I sell a $2 stamp I make $2, when I sell a $2 token I might make 50 cents).

·8 months ago5% off? LOL.
tarotfindsandmore
·8 months agoReally? I haven't sent out an offer for more than 5% off since this past fall.
jonathanbrightlight
·8 months agoWe send offers for 10% as standard, and Seller-Initiated Offers are only 9.7% of total sales (different market, to be sure). Maybe we need to try backing off and only doing the 5% off.
tarotfindsandmore
·8 months agoIt works well with items already on sale.
I posted about this in another thread, but to reiterate, the 5% offer is more of a "hi, let's do business" greeting than an "I want to haggle" message. If I get a reply asking for a few bucks more off on a more expensive (>100 bucks) item, I may accept it, but usually the sender gets that message I've saved in my notes. More than anything, I think it let's potential buyers know there's a human available and interested in making a sale.
onefootflipper
·8 months agomeme, I know you are absolutely dead set on maintaining your prices regardless of the competition, so why don't you try making more multi-item lots. No one will have the same lot as you and thus you won't be competing directly on price against anyone.
meme6253
OP8 months agoI have done that many times & still do, Especially with hot wheels, No one has the type of lots I offer on those.

·8 months agoIf selling wants & not needs be realistic , item prices can easily decline or increase, are you still paying your bills with owning your merchandise ?
meme6253
OP8 months agoI don't need sales from here in order to pay my bills, All I want is a fair & reasonable price for my merchandise & not give it away & ship it for free.
christworks
·8 months agoWhy are you shipping things for free? Shipping cost money and the buyer should be paying for that one way or the other.
meme6253
OP8 months agoI don't ship for free, But that's what I constantly say here when people want things for so cheap, That they want it for nothing & ship it for Free, I have never & will never offer free shipping.
tobaccocardyahoo
·8 months agoEbay has always had a more than typical number of bottom-feeding buyers who will aggressively attempt to press weak sellers for an insultingly low price.
Many Ebay sellers are able to pay their monthly bills because these buyers exist. Ebay has never done anything to discourage these buyers and probably never will, in part because they keep some sellers alive and selling.
And so many of us sellers think Ebay does not care about us.
meme6253
OP8 months agoI'm not quite sure how to receive your message?, Are you calling me a weak seller?, & I normally send offers, I am talking about having a final price sale with no more offers a take it or leave it sale.
tobaccocardyahoo
·8 months agoI did not call you a weak seller. I am explaining why Ebay does not want to bar these offers from reaching you.
If you wanted to see them, you might be a weak seller, but you do not want them.
Weak sellers are a great source of money for Ebay, they pay fees even when they lose money.

·8 months agoHear, hear, and turn off counteroffers when you're sending them out. Both Best Offers and "allow counteroffers" are like flames to lowballing moths.
sin-n-dex
·8 months agoThe counter offer especially. I like to come back with "I sent you my best price" if they come back with something lower. Not allow them to counter to say "hey I sent you a good price but I'll go even lower, why don't you low ball me because I like it!!" I do not like the counter offer and get mad every time eBay turns it back on in my settings when I'm sending offers out. Sometimes I don't notice and I start getting counter offers. Then I get "if you aren't willing to negotiate why did you allow me to send a counter offer?"
There's no negotiation, if I send an offer, it's my best price, period.

·8 months agoJust run the sale, don't send offers until the sale is done, and ignore messages from people asking for less.
It can be done, but takes some willpower on your part.
I run a sale (like 5%) once in a while and send offers on the very last day before things go back to full price.

·8 months agoCan you not set your listings to automatically reject offers below a certain level?
Yes, I realize that you would probably have to go back and do that with each individual listing.
jonathanbrightlight
·8 months agoYes, that's an option, and it can be set in bulk by percentage or amount off the listed price, but it doesn't adjust when an item is put on sale or a sale event ends. Still better than doing it individually.
meme6253
OP8 months agoYes I have done that, But ebay sends them to me constantly
gurlcat
·8 months agoIt sounds like you are talking about offers from SELLERS to buy their items. @soh.maryl was talking about setting up auto-minimums for the bottom dollar of offers that BUYERS can send you for your items.

This setting is available in your listing creation page for every item with a Buy It Now price. If you just have 'Allow Offers' switched on but don't set a minimum, then you receive every offer no matter how low and ridiculous. Some sellers don't mind, while others find it frustrating and time-wasting having to see those lowballs, so we use this feature to avoid that.
meme6253
OP8 months agoI have minimum offers set, But I keep getting ebay telling me to send offers, & customers sending messages for offers

·8 months agoYou'll get rid of a lot of that nonsense if you run a less generous sale and DO send out offers of the lowest possible percentage (5%). Doing this, has gotten rid of a lot of those kinds of requests for me.
Also, being sickeningly polite helps to shut down most of the rest of it. I have a standard message I keep in my notes that I just copy and paste into the message box so I don't have to engage further.
"Hi, thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, your offer is lower than I can go. Hopefully, I'll have something for you in the future.
Best,
Monica"
If the cheapskate comes back after that with anything other than a "thanks", BBL.
