·2 years agoHeck, I'm TRS and have like 150-160 items running if I'm at full bore.
It's not like being crowned king or queen. We're just pawns like everybody else.

·2 years agoJust remember, the TRS were also once "little guys."
Besides, there are no privileges when we buy something and the perks when selling are nothing to brag about.
mam98031
·2 years agoYou don't have to be a big or large seller to qualify for TRS. Lots of us are still "little guys".
Becoming a Top Rated Seller indicates that you consistently deliver outstanding customer service; it also makes you eligible to receive a prominent Top Rated Plus seal on qualifying listings.
To become a Top Rated Seller, you must meet the following guidelines:

·2 years agoWhy not direct that at the OP that said, "that they are widely abusing [TRS] unfortunately hurting the little guys".
My point was and continues to be that EVERYONE on here started somewhere and it isn't cool to discriminate.

·2 years agoHow about we just answer the OP's question and be done with it.
Q: Can I in my policy or in general discriminate against top rated sellers if I don't want to sell 2 em?
A: No, there is no way to do such a ridiculous thing.
mam98031
·2 years agoEspecially since they are talking about the seller using their account as a buying account. They are a bit confused as to how the TRS program works. As we know it only applies to sellers.

(Forgive me if someone has already given this answer, but I didn't want to wade through 9 pages.)
The answer is YES. You can easily discriminate against TRS.
Jack up your prices, use best offer, and decline any offers from TRS.
(You may end up selling to a TRS in disguise using a buying account, but this would cut down your chances immensely.)

·2 years agoThere are indeed a few extra seller protections for TRS sellers who provide 30 day or longer returns in seller-buyer disputes. Here they are:
Exclusive protections for Top Rated Sellers
We protect all sellers from abusive buying behavior and from events outside their control. Your track record matters on eBay, and we’ll support you when you deliver on your service promise and provide a good buying experience. This is why Top Rated Sellers who reside in the US and list on eBay.com receive additional protection benefits when they offer 30-day-or-longer returns.
Return shipping label credit for false “item not as described†claims
If a buyer falsely claims an item was “not as described,†we’ll protect you on eligible transactions. We’ll reimburse your return shipping label cost up to $6 per return. You’ll receive the return shipping label credit on your monthly invoice and we’ll automatically remove any negative and neutral feedback, defects, and open cases in service metrics.
Up to 50% refund deduction for decreased value on used or damaged returns
When you issue a refund for an item that was returned after it was used or damaged by a buyer, and you have a track record of delivering on your service promise, we’ll give you the ability to protect yourself by deducting up to 50% of the refund to recover the decreased value of the item. If there are any issues with buyers that may negatively impact you, we’ll take care of them by removing any negative and neutral feedback, defects, and open cases in service metrics.
Now, understand this: These extra protections are ONLY for TRS sellers in their role as SELLER. So, if you are a TRS seller in a dispute with a buyer, these can apply.
However, if you are a TRS seller acting as a BUYER in the dispute, these extra protection are meaningless. Your TRS status provides NO benefit if you are the buyer in the dispute.
THAT is what people are trying to tell you.
That your buyer "won" the dispute has nothing to do with his TRS status as a seller. NOTHING.
You seem to be convinced it must have something to do with his TRS status, because you simply cannot believe that ebay did not take your side, despite all the evidence in your favor.
Your problem is : you assume ebay handles disputes as if it were a court, carefully weighing the evidence and coming to an opinion.
What many here have been telling you is: Nope. ebay generally (with rare exceptions) finds for the buyer, and experienced sellers have learned that , for lower dollar items in particular, it is usually best ---from a business , dollars and cents viewpoint---to agree to the return, to keep ebay out of the process.
You say you spent something like 5 hours trying to win this, and just how much money was involved? Is your time really so worthless that spending five hours made sense?
Most of us would love to see ebay improve its dispute resolution process. But most of us also acknowledge the reality of it. Here's an example of ebay reality. that second TRS "extra protection"? Think about it. If a buyer returns an item that was new in box when you sent it out, but now it is completely trashed and can't be resold, the perk is: you can reduce the refund by up to 50%. In other words, despite the fact that the item is now worthless, you are still going to have to refund the buyer 50%. OR...you can open a case with ebay, claiming you should not issue a refund at all. Most experienced sellers have learned-- it is smarter to issue the 50% refund than risk losing the case and refunding the entire amount. And yes, you are likely to lose.

OP2 years agoBottom line there's nothing that you just wrote that I was not already aware of prior to opening this thread and that goes for what everyone else has said as well
I guess my biased prejudiced against TRS has been induced for one by a certain buyer that I had and two from the internet and reading the vast mini threads and other places stating how these TRS sellers can gain these privileges as buyers I have not said directly what privileges I'm talking about I may have implied these and I kind of think that we all know what I am talking about and I have seen it happen That's all I have to say about this you all can repeat yourself till the cows come home I'm well aware but all this nothing new under the sun here for me

·2 years agoThis is exactly your problem Ebay sides with buyers.
Also from reading you really started laying it out probably in a louder than usual voice to the CS on phone and FB. that immediately tunes them out.
@rockhounddog
Also i like to know where u get the info that TRS Sellers abuse buying? that you claim you get that info?
But one TRS Seller screwed you over so all TRS sellers are just as bad?
But if you believe it is true, then it is fact!
rockhounddog
OP2 years agoThen why is eBay ignoring the issues with this buyer abuse and not recognizing the multiple reported about him from various victims.i know this because I've talked to such victims and like me the reported him.and saw no change in status of anything or anyone..in other words eBay didn't do shhhhhaaaasan. T
Oh so you're thinking about replying to what I just said might you be thinking about well eBay doesn't let you know exactly what they're doing and what the repercussions are only that that buyer knows **bleep** they didn't do nothing they didn't take away any feedbacks that they didn't do any sort of repercussions with the buyer in fact yeah never mind people.
funfactorychannel
·2 years agoNo, i got screwed by ebay a few times. Even my neg was suppose to be remove according to ebay international but didnt. I am TRS and I do still get screwed one or two times a year.
Abusive buyers do get ban eventually. I assume once they do it a few more times they get ban. My block buyers for scams most end up be no longer registered maybe a year later. Words are not evidence but enough reports a buyer or seller will get ban.
You dont know that TRS seller/Buyer has more victims. YOU only know you were the only victim. how did you know multiple people reported on this buyer?
rockhounddog
OP2 years agoBecause I have talked to them ..compared storie's..and I asked and was told yes they reported the buyer and saw no action taken on any end...in other words..eBay did nothing.

mam98031
·2 years agoEbay does NOT give out private account information to other members. This means if a buyer gets sanctioned or doesn't is not something they will share with you. Because you can't see any certain action being taken against another member does not mean there was no action taken.

·2 years agoThis is the buying ID I usually use and I am a TRS on my selling account. I sometimes use my selling account to buy things also and I pay super fast so I'd have your item bought and paid for within seconds. So you couldn't really block me from buying. Not that I;d have any interest in the stuff you sell anyway.

·2 years agothis became rather hard to follow, in terms of understanding what your actual reason(s)...
If this was for wanting feedback removed because you feel buyer violated some policy, the link you posted wouldn't do that. What you should have done instead of talking to EB CS who in many cases are wrong and not at all helpful was use the Ebay Feedback Removal Tool, simply fill out the info required and submit it, within 30 min they will reply and let you know if they removed feedback or not and why it was or wasn't removed.

·2 years agoYou can refuse to sell to anyone you want. Unfortunately, you cannot "pre-block" them. Just as you cannot block zero feedback buyers or buyers from a specific state or location, you cannot block Top Rated Sellers.
I'm sorry that you have issues with Top Rated Sellers. I like your stuff, it's really cool. I hope you have good success selling them.
cardsforauction
·2 years agoYou can raise prices, so it's not worth it to them to buy, but then you just hurt your own business. Why not sell to them? If they are HUGE like Coca-Cola, and you are John's Cola (small business) you probably don't stand a chance to compete with them. Why fight it? You should just fulfill the order and continue your normal business activities.
sextons-sweet-deals
·2 years agoI'm a little lost on this.
Why are worried about top rated sellers? TRS don't get any perks for buying. It's all based on customer service, buyer feedback, and delivery time.
You have your product and you set your prices, except offers, make counters, and so on.
Why does dealing / selling to a buyer who has a TRS rating and pays the price you're asking for or negotiated bother you?
fern*wood
·2 years agoThat's because a basic understanding of TRS is lacking with the OP regardless of the number of times it's been explained. TRS stands for Top Rated Seller, which has nothing to do with buying. There is no TRBuyer designation, although buyers have a wide range of protections, ebay does not rate them.
sextons-sweet-deals

·2 years agoAnd the OP won't answer questions. They just deflect.
IMHO the open questions to @rockhounddog are as follows:
What are the benefits / perks of a TRS that is causing you to feel the discrimination?
What exact Ebay policy are you considering supports the removal of the negative FB?
Neither of those questions have been answered, even though they have been posted a few times.

albertabrightalberta
·2 years ago@rockhounddog
What you aren't understanding and what we've tried to explain to you is that a buyer's TRS status as a seller has absolutely nothing to do with whether he's a jerk of a buyer!
There are bad buyers who have never sold a thing and there are bad buyers who are also sellers. Some may be good sellers and some may be bad sellers.
The point is a TRS seller gets no benefit and no free passes as a buyer.
But even if he never sold
nuclearomen
·2 years agoLike what specifically are TRS doing that you feel are being "widely abused"? Another question is what privileges do you believe TRS are getting? Lastly, what does a seller who obtained TRS status (which isn't hard at all to get btw) have to do with you and your sales?
I'll tell you a secret, TRS means NOTHING, seriously, NOTHING, beyond simply having a sale record in good standing with ebay, there are no as you call "privileges" you get from being TRS.
You can't actually put anything in your listings that discriminate and even if you could why would you, obviously your sales aren't good, putting junk in your listings that no one wants to see, hear, read will only turn more buyers away from purchasing with you - food for thought.

·2 years agoI'm not understanding what your issue with TRS sellers is.
In order to be a TRS, you must sell a certain quantity and dollar amount, plus you must meet certain service standards.
Looks like you're on track to be a TRS at some point soon, IF you meet the service metrics.
Problem is, you have some feedback issues.
Why would any TRS want to sell to you?

You wasted those five hours speaking with customer service. CS reps do not know what is going on, they do not know eBay policies, they are reading from a script, any information they give you is incorrect and they tell you what they think you want to hear just to get rid of you. You would have been better off contacting eBay's Facebook page where there are some knowledgeable reps.
rockhounddog
OP2 years agoFacebook was even worse I did that they actually blocked me because I was pointing out their flaws and policy and how they were not being followed they didn't like that I was exposing too much.
mam98031
·2 years ago@pickapaper
That is a bit unfair. While Ebay Customer Service has a world of space for improvement, in this specific case, the outcome is what it should have been. The OP can not produce a policy that states the FB the buyer left broke any policy, therefore the FB was not removed. And that is how it should be.
pickapaper
·2 years ago@mam98031
You're right; the outcome was correct in leaving the FB as is. I didn't word my reply very well...I was mainly trying to address the fact that OP said he made five phone calls to CS at about an hour each and indicated he knew he was getting the runaround but he continued to call anyway. Perhaps he thought he would keep calling until he found a CS rep who would agree with him, I don't know.
Anyway, I still think calling CS on the phone is a waste of time. In this case, five hours.
mam98031
·2 years agoIt is important to know and understand that when a seller gets FB like the OP did and the seller simply doesn't agree with it, they can get very passionate and persistent about contacting Ebay so they can get it removed.
Now with that said, even if the OP did spend 5 hours trying to convince Ebay to remove the FB, it wasn't removable as it does not break any rule. That is NOT the fault of the CSRs the OP talked to, that is the fault of the OP not understanding that there just was nothing the CSR was going to be able to do to help them. Whether they spent 5 hours of 50 hours trying to resolve the matter, the outcome was always going to be the same. The FB will stand.
That can be a hard pill to swallow for some sellers that have convinced themselves the buyer did them dirty. But all that seller really needs to do is come up with an Ebay policy that states what the buyer said or part of what the buyer said broke some rule. If that is not obtainable, the outcome is as it should be.
Blaming that on Ebay CSRs is simply not fair. They were doing their job. The seller just didn't understand or won't accept the rules.
rockhounddog
OP2 years agoi did present how he broke the rules with concrete proof.but was denied.

OH no. What I would search for may be totally different than what you are referring to. To understand your position, you need to supply the policy you feel was breached. Typically this kind of response comes from someone that has no idea which policy would apply.
I know it can be difficult as Ebay has so darn many rules / policies it is really hared to keep them all straight. So if you want to actually get some real answers or opinions that actually may help you, you need to supply some actual information, FACTS with policy back up.
Without it you won't get anywhere with Ebay or here.

I've worked B&M retail for years and I can tell you that I deal with far, far more unreasonable customers in my day job on a regular basis than I do on eBay. One of my good friends owns a B&M store and I have heard some absolutely wild customer stories from him, too. It's just part of the job-- there will ALWAYS be stupid/unreasonable/stubborn customers. "Can I in my policy or in general discriminate against top rated sellers if I don't want to sell 2 em"
Can you do so effectively? No.
Having skimmed through this thread, I would say your ire is misplaced. You give examples of what are---at least to experienced sellers on this board---garden variety examples of seller-buyer disputes , with ebay siding with the buyer. Indeed, one of the most common complaints here is "ebay always sides with the buyer"---which is not entirely true, but is certainly not an uncommon result, regardless of the evidence presented.
What people are trying to tell you is: If you were a TRS seller (I am one, and have been for years), and your buyer was not a TRS seller, the result in your case would almost certainly have been the same. Buyer wins.
The result has NOTHING to do with the fact that the buyer is TRS. The result has to do with ebay's much-complained about dispute system, not the TRS status of the person involved in the dispute.

·2 years agoIt is not feasible to attempt to limit sales this way.
Since there is no mechanism to weed out certain buyers who may also be TRS prior to the sale, the only way to monitor the issue is after the sale. And the way eBay has their policies set up to penalize sellers who initiate transaction cancellations, the choice to cancel a TRS buyer would eventually destroy the health of your selling account.
The alternative would be to include a blurb in your description field in each listing that TRS buyers are unwanted. But with that comes the potential to offend shoppers, which does not show your customer service skills off to best advantage. Generally, i am against sellers putting anything negative in their listings. It can erode one’s image and limit sales.
