Buying from China...Tariff on May 1st
Let's hope our administration does something before May 1st.
I just got a notice from my Macao, China seller who I regularly bids on auctions every week.
And these are not high bid auctions.
I am being told to not bid any longer at this time. Ouch!
USA will impose a $100.00 fee on every package entering America from China including tariff and tax free ports of Hong Kong and Macao as of May 1st.
Considering they are telling me I am taking no chances on bidding unless there is a change.
One of my best sellers...

·1 year agoI read May 2nd, did this change again?
Also Stallion Express refers to Hong Kong and China, but when I asked them about Macau, they said no tariff on Macau (this was in February when this first started, they haven't answered any messages from me in the past month).
It would make sense to include Macau as it is part of China, but would definitely be good to know so I can remove items.
I was going to do time away on April 29 (so items could be shipped April 30 and cross the border May 1), but I will move that back a day if it's changed again and is now May 1. I don't want to miss any days of sales if I don't have to, but I don't want angry customers (who will be angry if there's chaos preventing my non-China packages from going across... the China items will be removed the week before, it's only 1% of my store).
I'm watching nightly Canadian news who is keeping us informed of all the changes as they happen... kind of nothing we can do until something is supposed to go into effect. The changes aren't the end of the world but it's become very difficult to plan more than a couple weeks out with things changing all the time.
On a positive note, I received and will receive more new inventory for my eBay Canada store (which I'm working at trying to put items on, mostly low cost stuff since the FB total is quite low, so in other words no silver).

·1 year ago@sin-n-dex This is from the April 2nd Order:
"Following the Secretary of Commerce’s notification that adequate systems are in place to collect tariff revenue, President Trump is ending duty-free de minimis treatment for covered goods from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Hong Kong starting May 2, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
Imported goods sent through means other than the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption will be subject to all applicable duties, which shall be paid in accordance with applicable entry and payment procedures.
All relevant postal items containing goods that are sent through the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption are subject to a duty rate of either 30% of their value or $25 per item (increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025). This is in lieu of any other duties, including those imposed by prior Orders.
Carriers transporting these postal items must report shipment details to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), maintain an international carrier bond to ensure duty payment, and remit duties to CBP on a set schedule.
CBP may require formal entry for any postal package instead of the specified duties.
The Secretary of Commerce will submit a report within 90 days assessing the Order’s impact and considering whether to extend these rules to packages from Macau."
(It's not clear to me whether the 90 days is from the date of the order itself, April 2nd, or the date the Order goes into affect against China and Hong Kong, May 2nd. And do note there is wiggle room in the wording, suggesting that Macau might get a reprieve)
Of course, this was April 2nd, and it is now April 16, so whether this changed in the meantime, or whether it will change tomorrow , well, I can't say....

OP1 year agoI got my information from my seller where I win auctions every month from him in Macau.
Great seller...was told that USA bidders not to bid anymore..period...today.
So, I kinda believe in my seller instead of the administration where the seller is in Macao, China and it is a high end college facility from the return address I see all the time.
So, Hong Kong didn't want to deal with the crap and best way for that is no shipping to and from Hong Kong.
This could change by May 1st or not.
The problem I see is what if a buyer wants to return something back?
It's going to be a mess for drop-shipping, Amazon and like everyone so I thought to opt-out for now.
