Buyer's remorse
Summary: dlr0916 shared their experience of a buyer claiming issues 15 days after receiving an item and wondered if it was due to buyer's remorse rather than a legitimate problem. Other participants, including albertabrightalberta and shire123, advised dlr0916 about eBay's policies, explaining that buyers have up to 30 days to file claims, and as a seller, they might need to pay for return shipping if a claim is filed. mam98031 emphasized that there could be many valid reasons for the delay in reporting an issue and advised not to assume buyer's remorse without evidence. luckythewinner suggested not taking business transactions personally, as eBay protects buyers' rights to return items within 30 days.
Has anyone had a buyer come back after receiving the item 15 days later and claiming issues? Does it sound more like buyers remorse than an actual problem? Replied to buyer and haven't received a response to my reply. Told them to return the item at their cost and I would refund them. I'm very accurate about a item so them implying I'm not leaves a sour taste.

·3 weeks ago · EditedYes, because eBay generally gives them 30 days to file a claim.
It makes no sense for me to guess how their complaint sounded, because I have not seen their complaint.
If the buyer files a dispute, you will be the one paying the return shipping. They do not need your consent for that.
IMHO, taking a business transaction personally is wasted of emotion.

·3 weeks agoSome don't open packages and check the item as soon as they receive them.
Since they have 30 days, 15 days isn't a big deal.
If they are claiming the item has issues, you pay the return shipping.

·3 weeks ago@dlr0916 Why are you assuming the buyer is doing something underhanded? Because they contacted you after 15 days? Don't you offer a 30 day return policy? Even if you don't and have a Nor Return Policy a buyer has 30 days under the MBG, any buyer can file for a return if they have discovered something wrong with the item. You then decide if you want to take the return or simply refund it. But you have to do one or both of those actions or Ebay will force you to refund and they won't refund you any of your selling fees if Ebay forces you to do a refund.
If the buyer files a claim to return the item and selects a reason that there is something wrong with the item, YOU will either have to pay for the return shipping or as I stated before, just refund them. You can not stop a buyer from filing this kind of claim no matter what you may believe to be the truth of the matter. But you are assuming the buyer has buyer's remorse from what you have stated here. Not that it IS buyer's remorse.

·3 weeks agoYour response to the buyer may very well force the buyer to file a Not As Described claim in which you will have to pay for the return shipping.
Your suspicions may or may not be accurate but with ebay, for the most part, buyers can return items for up to 30 days post purchase for a full refund.

OP3 weeks agoGuess that's my own nativity or trust because as a buyer I always send a discrepancy as soon as I receive a item.

·3 weeks agoSome do and some don't. It can still be a legit problem even if they don't notify you until day 29.

If the buyer is "claiming issues" as you described, it sounds like they are claiming NAD (not as described), in which case you MUST pay return shipping if you want the item back, after which you issue a full refund.
You cannot make them pay for their own return shipping.

OP3 weeks agoOh, I do understand, I put too much faith in individuals to contact as soon as something arrives and not wait days later. This was my first. My bad.
mam98031
·3 weeks agoThat isn't fair. You are assuming this buyer is doing something wrong. That doesn't make it a fact.

OP3 weeks agoI'm not accusing anyone, just asking a question. I've never had anyone wait this long to ask about something they received and was curious. Didn't say it was a fact.

·3 weeks agoSorry, it doesn't seem that way in what you wrote, but I am very happy to hear that the way I took your statements was incorrect. There are a multitude of reasons as to why it may take someone 15, 16, 29 days to notice a problem. Sometimes life gets in the way. They could have been sick, or someone in their family sick, or they could have been away from home, or endless other reason as to why it took 15 days. But again, they have 30 days in which to start this process with a claim on Ebay. They are well within that timeframe and because it took them a couple of weeks does not in any way mean they don't have a legit issue.
