Buyer won my auction, paid, then says he never bid.

He clearly doesn't understand how this works.

After the close of the auction, I sent him a message thanking him for the purchase and telling him it would be in the mail the next day.  I then packed the item, purchased a shipping label, and set it by the front door.  A short time later he responded to my message by saying that he never bid on my item.

I don't think understands that I can see from the bid history that he bid twice.  I also don't think he realizes that he already paid for the item - $102.50.

At this point I will probably just cancel the order and relist the item.  I understand that dealing with shmuck buyers is just part of the business.  He has 23 feedbacks, only 1 of which was in the past year.  He also has 3 feedbacks accusing him of being a deadbeat bidder.

    My questions:

    - can I just cancel the order even though I already purchased the shipping label?

    - if I cancel, what reason should I use, and will this have an effect on my account?

    - should I suggest he request a refund? or cancellation? Again, what reason?

    - should I leave negative feedback for him?  Can he retaliate by leaving negative for me?

    - should I explain to him how this works? (Tactfully and politely, of course)?

    - I'm mainly concerned about my eBay account and my reputation.

At the very least, I will report him to eBay and block him as a buyer.

    Thanks for any help/tips provided.

Websites give the user the option to, "Keep Me Signed In Unless I Sign Out". Numerous employees and family members have made purchases from me that the account holder did not become aware of, until after the fact.

A man went to his son's house to use the computer. He purchased my item with Buy-It-Now. He then realized his daughter in law was signed into eBay on that computer. He should have submitted a cancellation request then and there. Instead, he signed out of the daughter in law's account. Then signed in with his account and bought the item a second time. He put his daughter in law in jeopardy of receiving a Non Paying Bidder strike and left a mess for me to straighten out.

I was going to suggest maybe someone else in the household placed the order.

Buyer won my auction, paid, then says he never bid.

He couldn't have paid if he didn't bid.  It is impossible.

Right now I could not pay for ANYHING that I didn't buy or bid on.

ebay will not ding your account for this. I've done multiple cancelations the second someone requests to do so. never any issue on my side. possibly in the future don't initiate contact with buyers even if it's to say thank you and let them know you're going to ship. but that's for you to decide.

He was just fanning himself with the bid paddle.     If you select buyer requested there is no problem if you cancel the sale.

That is good. I would just cancel per buyers request and relist free of charge. You will be refunded for the label.

Add the buyer to your block list.

    Agree with cancelling the order.

Also, put him on your Buyers Block List.

A refund of $102.50 would immediately be taken out of your 'available funds'...do you have that?

I usually wait until buyer's funds that are processing go to your 'available funds'.

I would prefer buyer to cancel but that might be hard to do.

Do a 'please cancel your order'. One email and then let it go. Too many emails and buyer will get mad a could leave a nasty feedback.

You cancel it the wrong way you will still have an ebay fee of $100.+ to pay if you cancel it the wrong way.

No feedback...everyone can read your response...leave it blank.

Purchased label not used will be refunded maybe in a few weeks?

Yes, I do still have the item in hand.

I purchased the shipping label, but never brought the item to the post office.

As right now, eBay expects you to ship within your handling time period  By that I mean you need to have the package scanned into the carriers system as noted on the tracking number.  This  can't  happen right now as the package is  sitting by you door (possibly a strike 1 on you as I don't  know  your stated handling time nor the  date you when  paid..

The best thing you can do right now is try to get this buyer to formally (via the  eBay system) cancel the order.   Once the buyer formally cancels, refund the full  amount the buyer paid.   Do not get eBay involved in this situation at all (a possible strike 2 on you & that will go on your selling record.  Not a good thing.

Sellers have to follow the  eBay book to the T other wis strange things will happen & you won't be happy.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

I asked the buyer to go into the listing and request a cancellation.

He replied that he tried that, but it was too late. (I suspect this is because I had already purchased the shipping label).

I then asked him to respond to me by asking me to cancel the order and the reason why. Here is his response:

"Please cancel the order because I never make a bid for the toy thanks
    9:42 AM"
I now have a record of him asking me to cancel the order and why.  I will go ahead and cancel the order now PER HIS REQUEST.
I'm hoping that eBay will not ding me for this since I can prove that he DID bid on the item, he DID win the auction, and he DID request me to cancel the order.

Now you should cancel the shipping  label that you  purchase if you  purcase an USPS label it will take 2-3 weeks to  get your refund from them and refund the buyer - soon - don't  wait until you  get the shipping  label refund
