Buyer with 1 transaction history not paying and asking to cancel.
I have a phone that was sold as damaged, locked, and for PARTS only. Very clearly listed in the description and showing the status of the device in the photos via IMEI lookup.
The buyer who won the auction has only 1 feedback history (RED FLAG) and had not yet paid, so I messaged him nudging him to pay ASAP. He then proceeds to ask "is the phone icloud unlocked", which I get stern with him and point out that all details were provided in the listing, and proceed to ask him if he bid on the item without reading or viewing the photos.
He quickly submitted a request to cancel.
Do I have an option to report this buyer to eBay to prevent others from having their listings ruined?
Update: His one feedback on his profile says SCAMMMMMMMERRR, so he clearly already did something to ruin another seller's experience within the last 12 months.

·8 months agoHow is this a red flag - The buyer who won the auction has only 1 feedback history (RED FLAG) ? Everyone starts somewhere. There is a learning curve too as a buyer and seller - does not always mean scammer. I am not sure how someone who does not pay and cancels is a scammer....

·8 months ago1. Why is only one feedback a RED FLAG? How many did you have when you started here?
2. If there's a choice between cancelling, citing buyer requested, or going ahead and shipping, then getting an NAD case and having to accept the return, which seems better to you?
3. As you know, buyers can be given only positive FB. If someone left that particular feedback for this buyer, the buyer could have/should have reported it.
4. How was your listing ruined?

·8 months agoYes, you can report non paying bidders to ebay.
FYI, this is a common scenario. Lots of buyers can't or won't read item descriptions. It sucks, but it's just the way things are unfortunately.
I would recommend sending a Second Chance Offer to another bidder, or relist with Buy It Now if that isn't a viable option.
What I would not recommend is getting too upset about this, it's not your fault, just report the non paying bidder to ebay, put them on your block list, and move on with your life.

Buyers are permitted to request a cancellation on eBay. That was an intentional choice that eBay made. It sounds like you do not want to sell to him, so view it as a blessing that he requested a cancellation.

If reporting him to eBay feels good, do it. But don't labor under the illusion that you are going to prevent him from buying on eBay.
BTW, your listing was not "ruined". That is a bit dramatic. You suffered a minor inconvienence and you can relist the item.

Selling on eBay is not flawless. I have 1.4% percent return rate plus a 0.4% cancellation rate.
Add the buyer to your BBL and relist.

You are welcome to report the buyer if you think the revenge will make you feel better. eBay monitors the number of cancellations buyers make and takes appropriate action.

·8 months ago1 feedback, 10 feedback, 100 feedback or 1000 feedback, if they ask to cancel, cancel!
Never force a sale.
Would you rather cancel a sale -or- do a return?

I'm asking this because I do not know. Why would anyone buy a phone for parts? What parts would they need to repair a phone? If it is someone who repairs phones for a living, wouldn't they use new parts to repair the phones they refurbish? Why wouldn't a person who needs a phone just buy a new phone or at least a used one that works?

OP8 months agoRepair shops will frequently buy lost, stolen, damaged devices for parts, because they still have valuable internals that can be re-used.
Ex: You can perhaps buy a water damaged device and salvage the 10/10 case to swap for someone who has a badly damaged case.
Ex 2: Phone is locked and unclaimed a from lost and found, so a technician can re-use the charging port, the battery, the case, the side buttons, the camera, the glass.
I also think blacklisted IMEI devices are available to work overseas, so some buyers ship them abroad.

·8 months agoThe reason that people who work on phones buy parts phones is because the manufacturers do not provide many replacement parts.
This applies to lots of things, manufacturers do not provide parts because they do not want the item to be repaired. The free market then provides what the manufacturers will not

·8 months agoWhat exactly would you be reporting him for? Getting "stern" with new buyers is generally inadvisable, he was right to ask for the cancelation. You know from his single feedback that he's probably new and inexperienced, so why behave like a bully?

·8 months agoShould they have read, and know what they were bidding on?
Yes, but buyers are allowed to request to cancel.
Cancel as requested. Put that ID on your BBL. Relist, Move on.
Not sure what you would report, but see nothing in your post that eBay would take any action on.

He doesn't want it.
He won't pay for it.
If you send it without payment-- well, you can't because eBay won't give you his address.
Cancel.
Leave polite FB "Cancelled at buyer request" if you want to, or none at all.
Block the customer if you want to.

I know that we can't leave negative comments, even as false positives.
But I don't understand why that would be considered negative.
How about "Thank you for your quick response. Cancelled as you requested."?
albertabrightalberta
·8 months agoThat might work and be acceptable to ebay.
JMHO but I'm appreciative when buyers realize they made a mistake and are KIND enough to request a cancellation prior to my shipping the item. Mistakes happen, people change their minds, they reread listings and realize an item isn't for them. I wouldn't even block such a buyer even though I tend to be pretty quick to block someone I consider a potential problem.
