Buyer was refunded but item was received today
Hello, I recently sent a item out and my post office didn't scan the bar code so me and buyer weren't receiving any updates on the item so I did a refund since I believed the package was lost but today the buyer told me they received the package and wanted to send payment. How do I get paid for this item now?

·2 years agoIn the future, you shouldn't do this. If you have concern over the tracking on a package, contact USPS first. Call up the tracking number on www.usps.com and on that screen you can sign up for email updates as the time has a entry made to the tracking.
Also file for a Trace.

Did your buyer even contact you saying there was an issue? Or did you just assume the responsibility to refund the buyer?
Now the buyer has received the item, which is what will happen 99% of the time, it was just late. There is not vehicle on Ebay in which to rebill the buyer. So ask your buyer for their private email address, you can create and send them an invoice from PayPal. Let them know they will receive an email from PayPal and then they can just pay that invoice.
Ebay is well aware that sellers have to do this since Ebay doesn't offer any way to do it on the site.
Why would your buyer question if they should need to pay you for the item now? Did they think it was just a free item now? Of course they need to make you whole or return the item.

·2 years ago(emphasis mine) I think you lost me at the end there. Can you clarify what you mean?

Since a transaction occurred between you and the buyer, you can give them your Paypal email info and they can send it there. Congrats on having an honest buyer. I hope you leave them glowing feedback.

·2 years agoYou can't make the buyer pay.....
Unfortunately, this is the downfall when sellers refund because the package is late and possibly showing no scans. It has happened to me 2 times since November 2023. I usually write this off at year end.
If the buyer is nice they may offer to pay....paypal is usually the best route.

·2 years agoThe buyer is already offering to pay, according to the original post here.
The buyer's phone number should be in the order details. I would just phone him up and exchange contact info as needed for payment.

OP2 years agoThank you for the reply. Me and the buyer didn't know if this was acceptable or not. Didn't want to get banned or anything

·2 years agoTotally acceptable, if you have been in a recent transaction it's allowable to exchange contact information. If you are still concerned about how eBay sees it then use the second option I posted as that way eBay will get back the fees they refunded to you when you did the refund.
@devenscards
You have the buyers phone number in the order details, give the buyer a call.

·2 years agoSince there has been a recent transaction, you can share contact information.
You 2 can work out a way to repay, like Pay Pal or another service you both use.

·2 years agoIf the buyer is willing to repay there are two way to do it.
- You can exchange contact info so using PayPal or Venmo etc
- You can create a custom listing for the appropriate amount, make it Local Pickup ONLY and have them purchase. After the buyer pays simply mark the order as Picked Up.

·2 years agoThe only way to get money is if the buyer voluntarily pays. It would be a rare occurrence but possible.
