Buyer wants to return an item, ordered by mistake because they didn't read the description
I really don't blame them, eBay made it almost impossible to read the descriptions with their promos, why can't they just show the item and the description all together rather than throwing all those annoying items in your face in the middle, I think most people leave when they start to see other items thinking there is no more info on the product, or they just buy without reading since the description is hidden and buried between ads.
Merry Christmas eBay, hope the new year brings you some sense.

·2 years agoTwo minutes ago I had to cancel a order. "Ordered by mistake."
I blame the buyer, not ebay.
How do you find a item, enter a quantity and purchase it "by mistake"???

Good for you, my buyer stated they did not read the description, did your buyer state the same?

·2 years agoNo.
I can see your point about the buyer maybe missing something in the description because all the clutter.

·2 years agoYep, clutter is a big problem here and is on any list based venue these days when it comes to cellphones. The bigger the amount of data, the bigger the problem. This is why in every single college on the planet now in software web engineering or design is "Mobile First" even in High School courses.
Yet for say Amazon whereby its one listing descriptive and many vendor offerings there are pluses and minus there too. Amazon can block any listings against any vendor trying list into it. At the sametime for counterfeits it affords them to beat those with legit product and hence Amazon is the #1 venue of counterfeit items sold. Amazon is making QUITE the effort to try and quell that... Anybody who's not seen it Amazon is actually running informative ad's on TV or at least Roku. In those Ad's they've executives speaking about their efforts in their arm of stopping such experiences on their site without ever mentioning directly what they are doing.
Sellers need realize, Governments around the globe are very serious about either regulating third party commerce in big fashion or shutting it down completely.

You mean an item?

·2 years agoI would think the buyer had to make SOME kind of effort to get my listing to appear on his/her screen.
In 20+ years I've never looked at a item, made a conscious decision and go through the motions to buy it ... by mistake!

·2 years agoWait, what? Didn't you just admit earlier today that you bought a bunch of gummy pickles by mistake?

·2 years agoI didn't buy them by mistake. I bought them on purpose ... then changed my mind.
If my last cancellation, "changed my mind" I could understand, "bought by mistake" I don't understand.
I think the only way it could truly be a "mistake" is if you were sleep-shopping. 😉

Someone told me I have no excuse and can just translate stuff into English. I actually don't use translators, I write everything, so if I follow a rule in English that is actually an exception (or use a Canadian or British term/spelling), it's because I'm actually typing what I want to say. There's something like a few rules and 100s of exceptions in English... I don't know them all, and some words I often spell wrong.

·2 years agoIf not a one-of-a-kind its more likely that after the purchase, eBay thinking they would like another, presented them with more to choose from (at a lower price) so the "request to cancel" (mistake being they did not see the cheaper one before buying)

·2 years agoIn varying items there are more descriptive elements than others which doesn't lend itself to cellphones unless using fly pages, that simple. Can't do effective fly pages unless sellers enter the data into detailed data fields as I said and people dont do it. I've 300 items needing more specifics.
Yes, it could be that a buyer saw lower price, happens to all of us, I've done so myself return items to the store as I found a better value that warranted the return. This is exactly why Amazon propelled itself to #1 in ecommerce across the globe, force sellers to compete for sales by very nature of price competition. One listing, many offers and is far more consumer friendly to see all offers in one listing.
eBay sellers rejected that in Half.com and Amazon blew past all of them. Walmart success if demanding low web price on all third party offerings or they'll just hide listings. That and their ship to store consumer guarantee's even Amazon cant beat.

The rest of the world are using cellphones. Can only pack so much information into that small space. eBay would need get away from all HTML templating throwing many a logical storefront of large vendors into literal chaos.
How do you fit your watch description for example along with photo, price, shipping, shipping regions, feedback info, on and on and on into a space less than the size of 3x5 index card?
Not to mention many folks adjust the screen font-sizing and or complete screen scaling on their phones. Its the realm where UPC's now being replaced by QR codes help towards databases as index keys to pull up qualified descriptions. Works much better because then "fly pages" (info filled in "on the fly") from the database can be customized to product types. A Fly Page for a video game is quite different than thay of a watch or clothing or a phone, stereo receiver or Hot Wheels car.
Sellers dont care take the time fill in product detail data beetchin' about listing time, then yell about views where that qualifying data is important to search engines. Unless eBay constrains how people list and I do mean strictly there are no simple solutions. Amazon requires you have a UPC or you have to apply for an exemption last I knew... That's going to become considerably more difficult with QR codes which are actively replacing UPC and who knows how eBay handle that?
That which seems easy to a single individual seller in the case of these forums is usually rather complex and they just dont care about that. They want what THEY want. It's one reason I'd not blame eBay at all to fallback to the traditional B2C bigtime auction venues that existed. There was no variances, if a seller is approved to sell, here's the requirements, meet them or that item cant be sold here.

Only many people use both and a lot of real work is still done on the desktops/laptops. I would say it's almost as big a mess in the web app as the mobile app. 😒 eBay laid a big goose egg with that turkey of an 'innovation.'

·2 years agoIt's been a real pain and getting worse, tired of answering questions that are in the description. If ebay wants to flood our listings, put them all at the bottom.
