Buyer wants to return an item because it has damage that was noted in the listing.
Ive listed the item for signifigantly cheaper since this was a brand new returned item that got damaged in the mail. Buyer wants to return the item for the reasons that were notated in the listing! He said its broken, cracked on the top right. Well I said that in the listing and also changed it to "for parts or not working" because of the damage.
I dont know what the buyer was expecting buying a $350 monitor for $80 honestly, but what would be my best course of action after the buyer opens a return?
The return reason is "damaged"

Did he actually open a return? If not, he may be angling for a partial refund. You could make the offer at the amount it would cost you for the return shipping. Personally, I would just take the return and swallow the cost. Some of these scammers depend upon sellers giving them a partial refund instead of paying for additional shipping. Your call.

·3 years agoI have only sold a few items for parts or not working, and never would do so for anything expensive. I put the damage in the title in capital letters, and also in the condition box under the title. These two places are shown without clicking through. Then I repeated the information in the description box, which requires some effort to view.

·3 years agoAsk them. Be absolutely polite and professional. As long as you do that, there won't likely be any problem in asking.
When I have one telling me an item is not as described or damaged, I always ask my buyers for a picture. Those not willing to give me a picture typically won't go through with a return claim. At least for me this is how it works most times.
Since your buyer has filed a claim, you will likely need to accept it and just allow the buyer to return the item.

·3 years agoLet me tell you a little secret... Most of the times buyers dont bother reading descriptions at all. In Ebay's app you HAVE TO click on listings description link under photos to actually see and read description as they are not visible by default. We get returns most of the time because buyers just dont bother reading it at all. Why would they? Ebay lets them opening a SNAD case for whatever reason at the seller's cost. Ebay cares little to none if the buyer actually read the description or not. When they open a SNAD case against sellers just because the buyer was too lazy to read or because Ebay hides the descriptions on Ebay's app you'r seller performance is penalized by this. Might not be your fault... but yet it is still gonna be your fault. 🙂 If you hesitant to accept returns... on top of this you will get a negative feedback too. This is how this works on Ebay. You either accept Ebay's unfair system or dont sell anything anymore on Ebay.

·3 years agoIt they open an actual eBay return, accept it but don't refund till you get the item back. If you fight it and they could later open a CC chargeback, not only will you lose but have to pay $20 for the privilege of them keeping it and getting a full refund.
The other option is to just refund if they open an actual dispute and let them keep the item, which is what they maybe be after anyway, that way you will not have to pay return shipping if they open a damaged or not as described dispute.

·3 years agoWhat you need to decide is whether it is worth paying for return shipping once again as Ebay will force you to accept this return on your dime. Whether the buyer read or did not read the description has never been a factor with Ebay as they always favor the buyer in these issues.

OP3 years agoNo he hasnt, I dont know whether he would be willing to give me that information or not. The buyer did not mention whether or not it worked in the return details
