Buyer wants to communicate outside of Ebay email system.
A buyer made an offer that I accepted. After making the offer, the buyer requested that I communicate outside of the ebay email system. He said he had a question and asked me to text or email him at his personal number or email which would give away my personal information and is not allowed by ebay rules. I responded within the ebay email system and said I would be glad to answer any questions through ebay. I received no response and the buyer didn't pay.
I just accepted another offer from another buyer for a different item, and received the same request. I plan to respond in the same way I did before. I have a bad feeling this one won't pay.
Is this some kind of scam or is the buyer wanting to go around ebay? I don't understand why 1) a person would ask any questions after committing to a purchase instead of before; and 2) why they wouldn't correspond through ebay.
I am new at this, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Can anyone enlighten me?

·2 years agoI’m having a similar experience.
im an eBay buyer and have been recieving text messages (mobile number is linked to my eBay account for delivery updates only) from a seller that I purchased from via eBay requesting that I use their website in order for them to avoid eBay fees!
I feel this is a huge privacy violation and I’m considering taking legal action and logging a complaint with the ICO (Information Commissioner Office) especially as this sadly is not an isolated incident.
sadly I don’t know how to report this to eBay but as far as I’m aware eBay do not allow this yet as I say this is not an isolated incident.

No, eBay does not allow it. It is a policy violation. You don't have to go as far as with the ICO. I seriously doubt they will look into it. What you need to do is report this seller for their behavior. Here's the link to better serve you:

Tell them what you have posted here and make sure to give them their seller ID name. Hopefully eBay will act on your complaint.
Have a happy day.
