Buyer wants to cancel order
I sold a vintage Pyrex coffee percolator on eBay for $67 and about 10 minutes or so afterwards, the buyer wanted me to cancel the order because he found one for "a better price". I noticed he has 0 feedback so not sure if I should just cancel or decline to cancel so people learn not to buy it if they aren't going to pay for it. I'm tired of people not paying! Wondering how many sellers would cancel or decline.

·3 years agoAre you of the opinion that by denying the cancellation that you can force the buyer to pay? If so, the answer is no. You nor any other seller has any way to do that.
Denying the cancellation is likely ONLY going to hurt you and cost you some money. What could happen is the buyer pays, you ship, the buyer receives the item, then opens a Request for Return, you will need to accept it and pay for return shipping and then when you get it back you get the pleasure to refund them.
You have absolutely NOTHING to gain by denying a cancellation. BTW, you lose seller protection by doing that too. Meaning you can't later file a cancellation for non payment.

·3 years agoI use the auction format almost exclusively and I get these on occasion. I simply cancel as the buyer requested for the same reasons as others mentioned. I will often watch an item on eBay without bidding on it while I shop around other venues for the best price and usually wind up purchasing elsewhere for that reason and then just simply stop watching the eBay one.
When I do get these I seldom block the buyer unless they have a repeated history of requesting cancelations from me. While it may seem strange I actually prefer the cancelation requests on the auctions as opposed to the potential for request for return from a buyer that purchased and item and wants to return it because they found a better price elsewhere.

·3 years agoIf he wanted to cancel within 10 minutes can we assume he hasn't paid yet? Why would you go through the hassle of trying to force the sale? He could, of course, say it was in much worse condition than the ad stated and return it. He can also repeat that in the negative feedback you get.
I see there were several bidders for this. Can't you go to the 2nd highest bidder and sell to him if the winning bidder falls through? I think it was for around $45.

·3 years agoI could be wrong... but I believe that if the top/canceling bidder drops out the "runner up" (2nd highest bid) would drop to the the increment over the 3rd highest ($42.75). The only reason it was up to $66 was because the canceling bidder bid up the price... including the 2nd highest bidder.
If the new "winning bid" would be based on the cancelled bid it would open the floodgates for shill bidders running up every auction with a bid.

·3 years agoYou're thinking of what happens when a bid is canceled on an active auction. You're right -- the bid history is rearranged as if the canceled/retracted bid had never been placed, so the new high bid showing would be one bid increment above the second-highest (formerly third-highest) bid.
But in this case, the item has been Sold. Canceling the winner would have no effect on the other bids that had been placed on the auction. If the seller makes a Second Chance Offer, it would be at the high bid showing in the bid history of the completed auction.

·3 years agoCancel it. Make sure that you block this buyer. Anytime, that a buyer wants to cancel, agree to it. You don't want the buyer to then claim that you sent a rock and then keep your item and return anything or worse, they break the item and then say you shipped it broken. Cancel with the excuse BUYER REQUESTED. At the same time you cancel, you get the option to restart the ad for free. Make sure that you block this buyer.

·3 years agoI had someone a little while back send me an offer overnight. I accepted in the morning and almost immediately got a request to cancel. I instantly cancelled and blocked, and sold it for a couple of bucks more a day or so later. If it sold once, it will again. Just cancel and block.

·3 years agoThis has started happening more lately. 3 times in the last 2 weeks. All new with zero or low feedback. Just cancel it and move along is the best way to deal with it

·3 years agoOnce the buyer pays you...and then you do a refund in minutes or a day...that "$67." will come out of "available funds" immediately while pending refund is going on. If you were expecting "available funds" the next day or so it will be minus "$67.00". I suggest delaying a refund until "available funds" are in processing.
The whole feedback comes into play sometimes on something like this.
I would probably cancel after 3 days or depending on "available funds" are pending to make the buyer sweat. Buyer can always do chargeback and a lot of them know this.
Best to refund after so many days.

·3 years agoIt can be very problematic for the seller, in the long run, to try force a buyer into accepting an item no longer wanted.

Just in case, this isn't one of the coffee percolators that was recalled back in the day is it?

·3 years agoAnytime a buyer tells you there is an issue, and no longer wanting the item is a major issue, it's actually best for you to simply cancel and not ship. This platform offers a money back guarantee to all buyers, so all the buyer has to do is open a case for item not as described and you will be forced to pay the shipping to return the item to you. Why in the world would you spend more of your own money to teach a lesson to a stranger. Not reasonable really. Cancel for reason buyer requested and you will receive your fees back and can relist to sell to a good buyer. Always keep your own selling account front of mind over 'teaching a lesson'. Best of luck to you....

·3 years agoIf you haven't shipped it, you should cancel.
If you don't it could cause you a lot more of loss money in the future where you could end up eating shipping, return shipping, and possibly a damaged product.

OP3 years agoShipping is very expensive as these coffee pots are very heavy! Thanks.
