Buyer want to keep the item and still wants partial refund
Okay so not a complaint but a general question. I sold an iPhone with the description explaining that the earpiece volume is very low.
The buyer has messaged me stating that the earpiece doesn’t work at all, and requested a full refund and to keep the item. I told him to return it and I’ll refund fully. Now he’s asking me to refund partially and keep the phone.
Once again, I told him to return it and I’ll send a full purchase price refund.
Am I handling this correctly?

OP8 months agoI shipped an item to a buyer and the buyer complained of item defect which I believed is a lie because the item had no issues. The proposed partial refund and still want to keep the item.

·8 months agoIf you don't like their "proposed partial refund" offer, don't approve it. Ask the buyer to open a Return request. That way, you'll get your item back before fully refunding. Then, you can inspect, reprice and relist the item with no issues. Good luck.

·8 months agomy only current neg is a buyer who explained in the neg FB that he wanted a $115 “refund†on a $75 item and keep the item after I offered a return label and full refund. ebay says non removable

That's an unreasonable buyer who elected to pay extra on there own. Some buyers don't realize that sellers can only issue a full refund of price paid.

·8 months agoTell the buyer to return the item for a full refund. If the item has a defect it is the buyers responsibility to file a case for return. If you rather just issue a partial refund and agree that this matter is resolved then by all means do that which would then make the buyer satisfied to a point.

·8 months agoI sometimes find it appropriate to offer a partial refund as a seller, if an item is not working properly or in different condition, and let them keep it. But only at an amount I feel is reasonable, and the buyer is not allowed to ask for or demand a partial refund, as @albertabrightalberta stated. You're completely within your rights as a seller to require a return before refunding.

You should also report the buyer for asking for (or demanding) something that isn't part of the listing.
Go to the orders page and click the 3 dots to the right of "view order details." Scroll down to "report buyer."

Three of the options that eBay openly suggests to sellers as a possible resolution right in their policy are:
It seems ludicrous to me that a buyer would get reported for suggesting something that eBay itself suggests as a possible resolution.

·8 months agoNo refunds without return.
If it's good enough to keep, it's good enough to pay for.

Partial refunds usually involve keeping the item.
You wouldn't give a partial refund and have them return the item.
Partial refunds usually happen when a buyer is not completely satisfied with the item.
The buyer and seller must agree on the amount of the partial refund.
The buyer keeps the item.
If the buyer and seller can't agree on a partial refund, then the buyer has to return the item for a full refund.
