Buyer waited 30 days to return, is this a tactic?
Buyer waited to return swim shorts for 30 days, is the 30 day wait of some kind of benefit to them? Have you ever noticed that the buyer who asks for a rushed, immediate shipping is the one who will lie and vandalize the item and file a nad? The other buyer that wanted rushed shipping returned trash for the new military boots that she kept.
On the left is what I shipped, on the right is what she's showing on the return request. She made the hole and wore them in the dirt I guess. My hats off to you thick skinned, roll with the punches people! I'm in awe of you, I really am.

As the original topic on this thread has been discussed into the ground, and the thread appears to be devolving into personal animosity, it has now been closed.
Thank you.

So many pages on this thread.

OP2 years agoYa I know, they should take it down imo. Head butting and nonsense between a mentor and me the op I guess. Mentors ought to be required to take an etiquette and boundary class because there is weirdness going on here. If you don't mind being steam rolled fine, take it. I'll think twice to ever post anything again.
robbie31415
·2 years agoJust know mentor means nothing.
Honestly, it should be removed because the amount of bad information coming 'mentors' is massive.
And the mentor I'm guessing you are talking about is very wrong on a lot of threads.
I've literally created a thread to show how wrong they were with multiple screenshot evidence and they still couldn't accept that they were wrong.
It's not worth it to argue with that person becsuse they will create a million posts in response to get the last word even if its wrong.
maubrn
OP2 years agoAgreed, it's about getting the last word and having to be right! Ridiculous! But the criticism, attributing motives, snide bullying is over the top! So immature, rude. I'm glad you spoke up about it.

OP2 years agoCan you put a link to that post you created? Or msg me the link? Thanks!

@mam98031 keeps having to repeat her answers because you keep asking the same questions over and over that have been answered several times in the past 6 pages.
Bottom line:
NAD case:
OPTION 1 - accept return, pay return shipping and deduct 50% from buyer's refund if damaged
OPTION 2 - Issue full refund of buyer's original full payment and be done with it.
Whether the buyer lied about NAD, whether she purposely damaged the shorts or if they came that way, whether she "rented" them for her vacation and no longer needs them, whether the buyer is dishonest or a scammer ----- all that is irrelevant. Buyer WILL get a refund whether you do it voluntarily or if ebay does it for you.
And understand that if ebay has to resolve it, you not only lose the money for the full refund the buyer will get but your FVF won't be credited and the defect on your account will hurt because you didn't handle it yourself.
maubrn
OP2 years agoIt's done, I was able to deduct 50% , and the original and return shipping, so I'm not stressed about it anymore. The perk of TRS really made a difference, to have had to refund it all would have hurt badly. Not knowing what the blank you're doing is most of the stress. Experience goes a long way but involves stumbling around and a learning curve ugh.
albertabrightalberta
·2 years agoGlad it's over and done with.
Had you done that after it was first recommended 8 pages ago when it was first suggested, you could have saved yourself from all the stress you inflicted on yourself by arguing and delaying the inevitable with us.
And that's your problem. The policies are there for a reason and if you find them too long, too difficult to understand or not worth reading, maybe online selling isn't for you. Every site has rules that you're expected to know and to which you've agreed when you sign up.

OP2 years agoI don't care to be lectured and I consider your tone and style harassment. I don't need input about what I should do with my life, what vocation, etc. Is this an ego thing for you to be the guru? You're a bully and so is someone else, I won't mention her name. I don't take advice from bullies so saying nothing would be your best option. Didn't your mom teach you about saying nothing if you have nothing nice to say? Quit butting in with your caustic tone. I'm too old to give a care about what mean, critical, bossy, bullying, self-important people say. If it's said with any of those I'm NOT interested. I don't respect aggressive and unkind people or what they say. Don't reply to my posts or comments, ok? Are you bored? Take a kindness and humility course, that's my suggestion. Leave me alone, not interested.
mam98031
·2 years agoI am sorry you feel that way about @albertabrightalberta . They aren't here to bully you nor am I. They have given you good information over the course of this thread as have I. Your choice to ignore or overlook it I must admit does get a bit frustrating as you keep repeating the same questions when those questions have been answered. So try and look at it from the viewpoint of those that are simply trying to help you. There is nothing more to it than that.
You have mention similar things a couple times on the thread, then a few posts later you turn around and ask me a question. You've even asked me not to respond to your posts, yet a few post later you ask me a question and insist on an answer.
You can be a bit confusing. Just like your response to @gurlcat is a good example. Earlier in this post you were going to send me a private email but couldn't figure out how to do that inside the Community, so I said to simply call up one of my listings and contact them that way. This took quite a few posts back and forth. In the end you said you couldn't figure out how to do that either. So in the end, we never chatted off the thread. I'm glad to hear that you have now learned how to do it. I am sincerely saying that. It is always good to learn some thing new.
I wish you only the best, I always have.
gurlcat
·2 years agoBut ...... that's not how you send private messages inside the Community. Going to a Community member's listings (if they are even a seller, and using their selling account to post here) -that takes you OUTSIDE the Community, to the seller's store. Then the contact is an eBay email. That is how the OP contacted me, and I was perplexed because nobody has ever done that before. I really don't mind, but that is definitely not inside the Community.
mam98031
·2 years agoHonestly, you really think I don't know that. I first explained to her how to send a private message in the community, after a handful of posts, she said she could not figure it out. I then invited her to send me an email from one of my listings. She had issues with that too apparently. I gave up.

OP2 years agoSome things get lost in the translation, and I don't recall things happening that way. Some people just naturally seem to stay on the same page, by hearing and recalling things similiarily. And some the opposite, they don't hear, perceive or recall things the same. It's not a character judgment, it's not a right or wrong issue, or a good or bad issue. It's a DNA issue I think. We are so consistently so far off, I will just keep my distance because the frustration is obviously there for us all. Please respect this if I should ever post again, would you?
Every time I tried to reply to the "30 day returns being required by eBay" comment you made, the reply got lost and not posted. Is this comment u made another mismatch of perception/interpretation? I sold for 2+ years without accepting 30 day returns. So that doesn't jive with your statement.
Unless your saying that eBay enforces 30 day returns on NADS? Well I know that, so what was the point of saying that.
You took the time to be disagreeable and fault find about my statement that my decision to change to 30 days returns was for "HONEST BUYERS". I insist that my decision is a courtesy to honest BUYERS. They don't have to lie, or be tempted to lie if they are stuck with something that's a disaster, or they need the money, the reason not being the point. I benefit too, as I finally saw through enough eBay seller's comments, for which I'm grateful. It's better business and is a considerate of the honest buyer.
The fraudster isn't concerned about seller's 30 day policies because they have a far better policy to use. So therefore my 30 day policy is not for the fraudster, it's for the honest buyer. When someone asks for 2 weeks about a $3 discount, you know that's a good person, the kind of buyer I welcome. The item is returned exactly the same. That's why I split the shipping. This sale was more recent than the swim shorts.
maubrn
OP2 years agoImplementing the rules requires clarification sometimes, that's the reason for discussions. Hearing users input is very invaluable, it can condense and bring clarity that might not be seen in the text. I follow the rules, was that some kind of point? If we don't need discussion boards, why are they here? Issues may arise where other user's experience and input can bring clarity. I have the right to learn at my own pace, in my own manner. I don't break rules either.
oaklandmaryland
·2 years agoHappens to me too - they use the item for 30 days. I had a NWT cashmere sweater returned it to me with big holes in it. The buyer just claimed it was damaged. He got his Monet back and all I could do was throw the cashmere sweater in the trash.
maubrn

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I know you are TRS now, but were you when this happened? If you were, why didn't you give them a partial refund for returning a damaged item?

·2 years agoI tried at the very beginning of this thread to explain this to you. That is all I can do.
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoIt’s easy online to “rent†clothing for a specific time frame and return it when not needed in some cases. That could go for a lot of other things as well if you get a buyer abusing return policies, with EXCESSIVE returns. It’s the way people get their stuff basically for free for a time.
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoSo most websites do put a CAP on how many times these series returners can do this kind of stuff.

OP2 years agoAnd the seller gets a defect for selling a buyer-vandalized item, right?
albertabrightalberta
·2 years agoThere's no defect if you handle the claim without requiring ebay to step in.
maubrn
OP2 years agoIf you take off a % for it being used and damaged, can buyer appeal not being given everything? Will they usually win? Is this where you can provide photos of the condition it was received in? Or I read photos don't matter.
mam98031
·2 years agoIf you'd read the policy page, the link was provided early in this thread, you would know this answer.
Yes buyers can appeal it, but NO Ebay will not rule for the buyer and take any money away from the seller. If Ebay decides to offer a courtesy refund to the buyer, it will be out of Ebay's pocket.
maubrn
OP2 years agoI only come here if the policy pages are too much to comprehend. So just simple sentences are what helps, pasted policy text doesn't.
mam98031
·2 years agoWhat I have found is that if you step into something with the preconceived idea that it is going to be difficult, that is exactly what you will get because you aren't willing to accept that it is actually pretty simple. You can't see what is really in front of you.
I explained it to you as well as giving you the actual policy. Neither of which you would accept. There simply wasn't more to do. But here we are 100 posts later.
mam98031
·2 years agoNo they Don't. Are you now telling us you also don't understand how a seller can get a Defect? Have you ever monitored your Seller Dashboard? There are so many things you ask about on your multiple threads that are rather odd for someone with your experience as a seller.
maubrn
OP2 years agoPlease don't answer anything I write okay? I'm sick of your patronizing disrespectful scolding tone!
Leave me alone mam98031! I won't read anything you write.

OP2 years agoI have been learning on a as needed basis. New situations throw me for a loop and can be overwhelming. Out of 500+ sales, i had less than a handful of return scammers and they happened in a cluster in the last 3 months. The poster who said that the boots lady didn't lose as I thought she had, was 100% right I found out! eBay paid her out of their pocket! Sad, eBay grooms crooks by rewarding them. And then innocent, unsuspecting sellers get to deal with their criminality with their wallet. Those boots were a pre meditated theft. I came back here to find that person who said eBay paid her and tell her she's right!
mam98031
·2 years agoI'm not sure what you want me to say.
maubrn
OP2 years agoMaybe I posted as a reply and didn't realize it. I wanted to say something to you. You never what's causing a person to appear dense or not get things in one reading. I have ADD and lost my medication due to my age and it's awful. I have a huge disability. I don't speak for attention. New problems throw me and can feel overwhelming.
eBay discussion boards were more brutal around 08. It's better now on these boards. But please withhold attributing motive to what you see, it'll likely be wrong, it was about me. (I called it gaslighting). I operate on a need to know basis, little pieces of learning you build upon. That's all I can do.
gurlcat
·2 years agoMay I ask, at what age were you denied your medication? Did you try to see any other doctors? I'm 50 and still on it for my ADD, and I've sometimes wondered if/when/why I will ever stop taking it or be made to stop. For some reason it's kind of hard picturing someone who's 70 or 80 still taking it, but then even someone that old would still prefer mental clarity and the ability to complete tasks without distraction getting in the way. Occasionally I've had to go a few days without my meds and it's not good; I just sleep too much, eat too much, and take in passive entertainment, and even that is hard to stay focused on.
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoSomething that really gets me upset on here is when a buyer FAILS to read descriptions look at pictures and then says in their reason for return it is not as described. These buyers have some kind of imaginary idea in their heads about what they expect. For instance, I sold a diamond ring about a week ago, it has size dimensions of diamond , excellent representation on photos etc etc explained to the max in the description and then they say diamond not as described in their request. It burns my buns for sure. Buyers just can say or do whatever they want on here and I have come to accept it with the bun burning for a few seconds.
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoMeanwhile, with all the returns I get for absolutely no reason other than bad perception on the buyers part and remorse with not that great sales on here during the summer it is quite challenging.
maubrn
OP2 years agoI feel for you! Slow sales really are demoralizing, I try to describe everything ad nauseum so nothing remains fuzzy but I've found many don't read the listing. So I try to cram info into the title. I feel lucky after reading others returns situations on here, to have just had a handful of returns out of 500 sales. The liars trigger my PTSD and it's really hard because it's all a new learning curve. No returns until the last 3 months and then it rained.
gurlcat
·2 years agoBesides choosing INAD, what reason did they write in their own words? You know, I can't think of a category with more Item Specifics than frikkin diamonds. It's been years since I had any to sell other than tiny 'accent' ones on higher-end costume pieces, but the listing page still offers all the diamond IS's on most jewelry categories, so I see them all the time. I just cannot imagine how furious I would be if I had done the research and filled out ALLLLLLLL THAT ..... and the buyer filed a ^#@&^%* INAD!
chapeau-noir
·2 years agoIt's a bad idea to over-think any of this.

·2 years ago@maubrn I'm sorry that you ran into this buyer. It 100% sucks. If it were me, I would deduct 50% - they obviously "rented" this item, and then ruined it so that they could return it. In my opinion, that qualifies for the biggest deduction. Report this buyer as well... I'm sure you aren't the only one they did this to.
I agree that 30 days is way too long for a return. It should be 7 days, or 14 at the most. Ebay also gives the buyer way too long to mail the item back once they submit the return request!
Hopefully you can make many more profitable sales, so that you can forget about this one. We have all been there. It stinks.
sextons-sweet-deals
·2 years agoThere is a definite color difference between the two photos.
frecklesfinery88
·2 years agoSo very sorry this has happened to you. This is way too long for a return. Every day we are amazed as sellers what can be returned. I would follow up with eBay and block the buyer. This is unethical, a store would never let you do this. In fact most stores do not accept swimsuits back period. Resellers should not have to accept returns of refunds on items over ten days after delivery, Just our honest opinion.
Have a great weekend!
mam98031
·2 years ago@frecklesfinery88
I am interested in a comment you made. I am sincerely just trying to understand and nothing more. You said " This is way too long for a return." When a seller offers a 30 day return policy, why do you feel that if the buyer files for a return late into that 30 day period, like the last week of it, that it is too long? The seller didn't offer a 25 day return policy, they offered a 30 day return policy and the buyer was within that timeframe.
That is not reflective of the return the OP is facing. The buyer clearly used the item and in Post 3 the OP was given how they can handle this return and not have to give the buyer a full refund. The OP just chooses to ignore how to resolve the matter.
I also agree with you about swimsuits, but that is for B&M stores and not internet sales. Things are not the same between the two ways of purchasing stuff.
frecklesfinery88
·2 years agoI am not going to argue my opinion. That is what is great about eBay. We each run our own store. I do believe 30 days is too long and I do think swimsuits and underclothes should not be able to be returned. That is my opinion.
Have a great day
mam98031
·2 years agoSorry, I believe you missed my point entirely, but thank you for responding.
maubrn
OP2 years agoI agree that swim suits and underwear should not be returnable. Great point.
mam98031
·2 years agoAnd you have EVERY right to feel that way and to run your business that way. So why do you choose to sell them on a site that doesn't allow that policy? All you need to do is find a place suitable to you, that allows you to sell these items without returns.
maubrn
OP2 years agoYes mam! Some things homo sapiens do are unpredictable. The 30 day return policy is a courtesy to honest sellers. Lying snad's are for the crooks and anti-social people. Having the 30 day return policy didn't create the vandalism. The false snad abuse that crooks exploit did. Obviously she made the hole and would have been able to return it even if there had been no 30 day return policy.
I was just wondering how waiting until the 30th day benefits the players? Or is it a one finger salute?
farmalljr
·2 years agoIt's a one finger salute. Any buyer who can't get the item mailed back in 2-3 business days, simply is yanking the seller's chain.
Simply, your buyer intended to scam you from the start. They are well versed in what to do to get a free "rental" and get away with destroying your item just to be extra nasty. They then made sure you were as unhappy as possible by waiting until the last possible day to mail back the return. This is the same type of buyer who would not hesitate to open a charge back, and keep the item AND all the money.
chapeau-noir
·2 years agoIn my experience, almost 100% of the time it's because the buyer simply hasn't gotten around to it - in all cases item has arrived back exactly as I shipped it (often carefully wrapped). I'm no great shakes at returning something immediately, either, though I tend to at least try to get it back in a week.
This person is a fraud, but I wouldn't try to ascribe any dark meaning to WHY they returned something so late - it's obvious, they're a fraud, no need to go further on that. Yes, at least deduct that 50% - the rest is shrinkage. It's a hazard of online sales, unfortunately. I once got something back after a couple of weeks, shop tag intact, carefully wrapped, and stinking of cigarette smoke.
mam98031
·2 years agoI was just wondering how waiting until the 30th day benefits the players?
Beats me. I don't know that it does. The buyer is human too, they may have forgot about it for a period of time. IDK. But you offer a 30 day return policy not a 29 day or 28 day or whatever, it is a 30 day policy and buyers have all those 30 days to file for a return if they are so inclined to do so.
maubrn
OP2 years agoThe 30 policy is a courtesy to honest BUYERS. I said sellers by mistake.
maubrn
OP2 years agoeBay upped the refund I gave her on their wallet, but my dismay is that it empowers crooks which will prey on the system and sellers. What if she got an $8 refund and had no shorts? I bet that would have had the effect of making eBay safer, she might think twice next time.l
janet9988
·2 years agoThe OP sold the item swimsuit USED. So what you are meaning is that it is unethical for anyone to sell a used swimsuit in the first place?
gurlcat
·2 years agoAnything can be construed as "unethical" if you squint hard enough. There are people who will happily save money by buying used swimsuits and apparently eBay finds nothing wrong with sellers offering used swimsuits. Looks like there's over a quarter million for sale, and that's just women's. 😃
