This is a new one for me - had a buyer message me about the color of a lid tonight:
The weird thing is, when I clicked on the buyer's name, my seller feedback wasn't there, so I looked back at that item order details and see that a similar username made the purchase.
I told the buyer to return the lid in my reply, but has anyone ever encountered something like this before? Could this be intentional or just a mistake? Would a buyer have anything to gain by sending these type of complaint messages through a different account?
Thanks -

I'd just respond to the buyer with "I'm sorry you're not happy with the color of the Pyrex lid. I have a return policy so just request to return it and I'll issue a refund upon receipt of the returned item."

·4 months agoWho in the heck gets upset over a $6.99 purchase? I would do nothing, no response no nothing until you get a refund request. Let the buyer figure it out.

·4 months ago@authentic*vintage I wouldn't automatically think scam. I would think buyer has no clue what account they purchased under.
If it bothered me, I might say, "Hi, I'm sorry but I do not have a record of purchase by anybody under the user name you have messaged under. To protect buyer privacy, you will need to contact me under the account you used to purchase the item. I will then be able to assist you."
They cannot open the return under that account, and given they may be trying to fish for a partial refund, which is against eBay policy, it may be wise to force them to use the account they purchased under so everything is in that account.

OP4 months agoThey both have minimal feedback. This makes the most sense. Thanks!

·4 months agoSimilar in what way?
Possibly a guest buyer, eBay assigns a "one and done" user name for guest buyers to use at checkout. Do the user names have a string of digits at the end of the name?

OP4 months agoOne has a dash and 3 numbers at the end. Both have the same unique 4 letter phrase in them.

·4 months agoReally sounds like a Guest buyer, They are quite restricted on what tools they can use.

If either ID has no feedback (maybe even no feedback page at all?) then it's almost certainly a Guest.
