Buyer sent me an email after asking about item
I'm selling a fairly expensive, yet used, laptop. I understand people want additional details so I told them to wait while I uploaded additional references to imigur. During the wait they sent me an email address so I forwarded all the info I was going to send on imigur to there as well.
Now they are saying eBay isn't working and to try PayPal.
Should I bother with this buyer? They seem to have good reviews but I trust eBays safety nets more than PayPal's.

You've already received great advice, hopefully saving you from being scammed.
Add that buyer to your blocked bidder/buyer list!

I would block the buyer, screenshot the message thread, then report the message for violating the member-to-member contact policy.
You were smart to come here for advice before going further, even if you did already make the mistake of communicating outside eBay.

·6 months agoAnd if you were to bite, there is an excellent chance you would be banned from Ebay for life, as well as cheated out of your laptop.
You may already be at risk of Ebay discipline for sending the information off site.

Do not end the listing, since contact information has been exchanged if you end the listing eBay will assume you took the sale off eBay. At a minimum they will charge you fees and at worst your account could be in jeopardy.

They were fishing for your email address- which has now been sold on the dark web, but there's nothing you can do about that now.
And if you "sell" it to them there will be a fake email from PP telling you to ship quickly.

·6 months ago@masterchife12 No! You are being scammed, completely. They did not need to give you their email address. When you sent info to that address, you revealed yours, so now they have a path to you that eBay cannot see. If you continued with this, you would receive completely fake payment notifications, no actual payment, and your laptop would be gone as soon as you shipped it.
Do not list highly-scammed, high-value items like laptops and smartphones until you have more selling experience and are willing to risk a total loss.

·6 months agoNo, no, no, noooo!! Stay away from this buyer ASAP. Not only have you taken the listing away and off of eBay, you are setting yourself up to be smoked...they are setting you up to make you think you are on PayPal

Do not allow the buyer to pay you directly through PayPal. It's likely a buyer who wants to scam you.
The buyer saying 'eBay isn't working' is very suspect.

IT'S A SCAM!!
Never do any business outside of ebay. Never send message to some other email. Never let them tell you to use Paypal.
They will send you a fake payment email from paypal, you'll send it out thinking it was paid for, it'll be gone forever.
