Buyer sent an Offer of the BUY NOW price. Then hours later bought the item in full. SCAM???
To keep it simple im selling an item for 200 dollars.
This morning i was sent an offer to buy my item for 200 dollars. The buyer has ZERO feedback ratings. Naturally this was suspicious so i ignored it.
later in the afternoon the customer buys my item in full. All Paid off. Is this a possible scam??

·Sep 17, 2026 at 10:40 PMIf you've been paid in the usual manner, then go ahead and ship it. Accepting the buyer's offer vs. having him hit the BuyItNow button are just two ways to the same transaction, so if eBay is telling you that the buyer has paid and it's time to ship, then go ahead.

·Sep 17, 2026 at 10:16 PM · EditedEvery single transaction on eBay is "possible scam".
There is no need to make an offer at full price to perpetrate a scam, and the buyer gains no advantage by doing so. Any buyer can cheat you out of any item at any time simply by filing a fraudulent "not as described" dispute.
A "new buyer who does not understand eBay" sounds like a much more likely guess.

·Sep 17, 2026 at 9:52 PMWhat did you expect the buyer to do. Offers are only active for a defined period of time. Since you did not respond to the buyer's offer, they likely thought you were not going to respond and they really wanted the item, so they purchased it. You didn't leave them a lot of choices.
Please keep in mind that a new buyer does NOT = a bad buyer anymore than a new seller = a bad seller. All it means is they have a new account. For sellers, we NEED new buyers coming to the site regularly. It is the only way we can survive the long term. If new buyers don't come as the older ones go away for whatever reason they have, our buying pool gets smaller and smaller, which is not a good thing. We need new buyers to thrive here.

OPSep 17, 2026 at 10:03 PMFair points thanks for the response. Isnt it very suspicious that they offered 200 dollars, which IS my Buy Now price. If you're saying this is a new seller "mistake" then i guess i see it.
I read a couple threads in Reddit that advised this was a clear scam.
Thanks for the help 🙏

·Sep 17, 2026 at 10:11 PMNew buyers make honest human errors just like sellers do from time to time. It doesn't make either of them bad, it makes them HUMAN. I certainly know I'm not perfect.
Reddit is likely wrong. You said the buyer purchased and paid for the item. Now it is just time to ship it. Keep in mind that any kind of social media leans strongly to the negative of anything, whether it is true or not.
