Omg! Report him to eBay immediately! If you go onto the USPS site, you can file a claim for a missing package. Normally, when I do that the package gets on the move to its destination. Send him the case number you will be assigned, check everyday to see if tracking is updated. That is terrible! As sellers we work so hard and to be treated like that is incomprehensible. Sorry 😒
Another thing I've noticed from the text messages are the time stamps of the conversation. Where I live the most common words spoken at 1:45 AM are a Bartenders "Last Call"
You may have been dealing with someone who wasn't finished with their party. Drunks can become quite brave and you then are dealing with someone who is unreasonable.
This is why its best to establish usual business hours. I never send anything thing out after 7 PM each day. It just waits until the next morning.
just send him full refund be done with it, if he gets card let him keep it ,I find it's the best way to deal with this type of buyer, if the card was expensive try to stop shipment and have it retuned, then fill a report with e-bay and block the buyer
That's horrible advice, in my opinion. It's just giving in to an illegal threat. I'd rather block the buyer, report the message, and take the risk of unhinged negative feedback that can either be removed or responded to professionally to mitigate it.
I would never take a threat seriously from someone that puts it in writing. Respond to the threat with the Rodney GIF and then block the buyer on the messaging app and communicate only through ebay.
The screenshots shown in the OP are not via messenger app. That's just how eBay messaging/email looks on a phone. I believe this was discussed earlier in the thread, though I may be confusing this one with a similar one. Love the Rodney idea though.
I just read through this whole post....did anyone remember that one can report inappropriate messages RIGHT ON THE MESSAGE PAGE UNDER THE ACTION TAB? I would certainly do this. Maybe it is landing on a "bots" desk now, but I would still give it a try.
Sadly, the new eBay Messages system did away with the Action tab and the Report option. You have to go back to old messages (something you can't do in the app) to get to that. It is what should happen here, though.
It looks as if you have been texting with the customer. Stay away from text and just go thru the eBay message system when communicating with a buyer. Ebay from their offices can see everything that's said between you and the buyer then. They have the abilities to see all of them. Then its considered breaking ebay's policies to use their system to threaten. Ebay takes this very seriously as in the event of something bad happening, the last thing they would want is the media exposure.
If I get a seriously late package and the buyer is being a complete idiot like this I will not take the chance on my items to be refunded by ebay when they file INAD. IF THEY FILE INAD with no movement for a certain period of time the buyer can get a refund AND then keep the merch when it arrives.
Your first issue was saying "I" making it personal. You opened yourself up a little there. Say, "Thank you for reaching out regarding the carrier delay. Your order dispatched on time, within the 3 business days(Monday-Friday) handling on the item listing. We see that USPS delayed your package. We have issued you a partial refund for the delay caused by carrier. Have a great day."
I too live in a rural area where USPS causes delays. They blame the internet on not getting pickup requests. I have to personally contact the route driver via text every time to make sure he comes. And sometimes he's out, and no one comes.
After receiving that response back, "Your language and threats are unacceptable and have been reported to eBay, our local authorities. We will no longer be able to communicate with you. You are blocked from purchasing from us."
I wouldn't send this, but I would type this into word document.
"You are a disgusting, unworthy individual of being allowed to purchase on eBay. May you rot in **** and ease the people of earth of your behavior. If you come to my home I will ***** you to space with my **** and call it self-defense cause out here, us inbreds don't take kindly to strangers"
USPS has been having some difficulties lately BUT that does not mean that a buyer can ABUSE you for it. Totally out of Hans. This is one of those buyers I would report AND no WAY would I rewards their temper tantrum with a partial. RECALL the package.
You have initiated an "intercept". They are not always successful.
Yup. That's part of why I was asking for tracking screenshots (msg #31). I've heard of them failing numous times, ESPECIALLY when there've been no recent scans so they have no idea where the package actually is. Could have been in the buyer's mailman's truck already. I wonder if they even refund the $17 if they deliver the item instead of intercepting it. Also who knows if the phone CSR explained anything about whether this will be a defect, whether the buyer can leave feedback, whether it would be removed, etc.
It's frustrating when someone posts a question here, doesn't answer repliers requesting more information, then does whatever they were inclined to do anyway. And when that inclination is getting "help" from eBay customer service ...... oof.
Supposedly the $17 is only "paid" if the package is actually intercepted. I have no personal experience with it.

Their profile isn't available.
Yep, that $17 is charges only if an intercept is successful. I've done it a couple of times - both during the mess of Christmas 2020. I had given refunds on both for such long delays and seemingly no movement. One successful, one wasn't.
"Still at the post office" ... is it stuck and not moving or moving within the postal system? If you notice it hasn't moved in a few days from one location, call the post office and have them do a search for the package and get it moving again. There is a customer service number on the USPS website. Don't use the voice menu, keep replying 'agent' or 'customer service' until you get a person. It's not that hard.
And, why the partial refund? Work it out first with the post office and person before giving up money and losing your merchandise.
Am I the only one that is wondering why there are text messages back and forth and not eBay messages? Was this even an eBay transaction? Why are you texting each other instead of using the eBay messaging system?
That aside, I would recall that package and issue a refund. This buyer will undoubtedly try to get a refund and keep the item anyway so you might as well get it back, refund their payment, and be done with them.
Oh I did not know that. I have never used the app. I know when I use the eBay messaging when on my phone it looks different than on my computer but it doesn't look anything like that (I just have the eBay link set as one of my favorites in Safari.

Don'tcha know? eBay updated their messaging system to be like texting. So when a buyer texts me 10 times to say a few words each time, I get 10 emails! (yes, exclamation point)
I reverted back to the old system of writing a message and pushing enter doesn't automatically send it, but on my phone, the messaging looks like texting.
Here's me being nitpicky about a pet peeve of mine.
When you messaged the buyer "Please let me know if you're not satisfied with a partial refund!", why the exclamation point? I see a lot of people doing this nowadays all over the internet where they end their sentences with exclamation points.
My 5 year old is learning to read so when he came across it, he asked me what the ! was and what it means. I told him it simply means that sentence is louder than the ones with just a period. He says "You mean like it's yelling?" I said, "Yes, kinda."
It's not as bad as typing in all caps, but personally it also raises a flag with me when someone uses exclamation points. I automatically think they are being loud, yelling, or expressing extreme emotion. So I tread lightly or defensively. One thing is for sure, I would never use exclamation points with someone I believe to be drunk or unhinged.
No worries, eBay will handle this buyer with a full refund and let him keep the merch when it's delivered and then he'll leave you a negative feedback which they won't remove. Par for the course.

Chances are he's bald and weighs 120 pounds soaking wet.
What I would do is copy and paste everything into a 'report buyer' opportunity. It's in a blue link under the order in the shipped section, you have to scroll to the bottom to find 'report buyer'. You can only report once for each reason. I'd do the first two. Make sure to include the email link numbers where you were threatened, it's at the bottom of the email.
replying to the only response I’ve seen that wasn’t critical 🫣
Thanks for all the answers. Honestly in the end I don’t mind sending partial refunds as a first step in attempt to save reviews, just something I personally don’t mind spending money on.
I think the decision I’ve made just cause I tend to be on the more cautious end especially since this is my first dealing, is to refund minus shipping, and pay usps their $17 to intercept it and send it back to me. Guess my last question is does that screw me over with eBay and open me up to them opening a case for demanding their shipping money back or what?
Feel like it’s a pretty common practice of sellers to decide to not refund shipping since it’s already paid for and non refundable, is it not? Definitely something I’ve done plenty of times and also read a thread on this community that suggested it. not saying it’s my go to practice just seems appropriate in this situation, especially to negate if I choose to intercept this package.

If you'll notice, nobody is trying to address the part where you still have a question. Normally I'd call that rude but in this case what you need to understand is you haven't provided enough information. I see you know how to do screenshots, so how about one showing the USPS tracking progress? So much of this situation depends on whether the package even got an acceptance scan, and how many days have progressed. The date of the sale would be helpful too.

I'm not saying law enforcement would do squat. I didn't suggest that the OP contact LE.
But for a bully buyer to threaten a visit soon coupled with the language and name-calling, that warrants a report to ebay because I have to believe there's a pattern and getting it on record can't hurt.
I also don't suggest that the OP issue a partial refund, at least not yet! We have no idea when @brixandstix shipped the item nor what the estimated delivery date is. As most of us know, it's not uncommon for packages to go days without scans, often not showing movement until delivery.

We still haven't received answers to the questions I asked nearly a full day ago. I'd also lean toward the buyer being a scammer if the messages came within hours or a day of purchase.
However if it's in reference to the $500 jacket that was sold on April 7, there should have been some movement by now.
In the future, don't apologize for postal delays or other stuff beyond your control.
And don't help train bad buyers with partial refunds for abusive behavior! This guy threatened you and even impugned your state, and you want to give him some money for it?
Not to blame the victim, but keep it professional and businesslike. Just remind the buyer of the delivery estimate, monitor the tracking, and don't appease the buyer before there's an actual problem.
why did you offer anything for a postal delay? you just opened yourself up. just stop communicating with him and go file a police report in case he shows up. contact ebay as well. AND STOP ALL CONTACT
I have just filed a police report on a crazy buyer who lives near me and wants to show up. eBay is aware and does zip. The threatening messages continue. Worse than Facebook
Put all those texts into a single eBay Message as a recap of what has been said.
EBay can't actually use it, even if you add them as a screenshot, but when/if a human being looks at the texts, they may be influenced. (Like sending the jury out of the room while a witness is being reamed out by the judge. The jury is not going to ignore that even if they are supposed to.)
And add the police report number to the eBay Report, if you haven't already.
You might also want to file a police report in his town as well as your own if they have different forces.
FWIW- I don't do Local Pickup, but I have suggested to a couple of people who were insistent that the most convenient time and place for me would be at my church in the Fellowship Room after Sunday Service. I even let them know about the lemon squares and nanaimo bars the Women's Auxiliary serves. Somehow they chose the postal service instead.

Report this buyer for abuse and contact the police where they live. Unacceptable.

·2 years agoIn the future, don't apologize for postal delays or other stuff beyond your control.

·2 years agoI have just filed a police report on a crazy buyer who lives near me and wants to show up. eBay is aware and does zip. The threatening messages continue. Worse than Facebook

·2 years agoPut all those texts into a single eBay Message as a recap of what has been said.

·2 years agoJust be polite. Recall the package and then provide a full refund. Block the buyer, of course.
