"BUYER SELECTED" why am I seeing this crap????????????????????
Summary: ed307935 expressed frustration about receiving a "buyer selected" shipping method message on sales, despite selecting economy shipping. mam98031 and luckythewinner explained that buyers can only choose from pre-set shipping options listed by the seller. shire123 shared a similar irritation with buyers occasionally selecting more expensive shipping methods. bdmh-enterprises and chapeau-noir mentioned that these messages often appear due to platform coding issues and suggested ignoring them. gurlcat speculated that such minor issues may distract from broader concerns with the platform's practices. The discussion included experiences from other participants who faced similar issues with shipping notifications.
I see this ignorant statement pop up on my sales. I select economy shipping and yet I get this ignorant message, like the buyer can dictate the method the seller ships.
Why this here? When I buy stuff on here I do not get to say how the seller ships it to me
Sorta like getting all these message saying "your item has shipped" when the only thing that has happened is that someone printed a label and may keep at their crib for days

·Sep 10, 2026 at 12:26 AMI interpret it more benignly and even as being helpful.
While the buyer may not be offered a choice of shipping methods, they paid for (“selected”) a particular one. You, as the seller, still have the ability to use a different service - and those are listed when you ship the item - but you are being clearly reminded that those alternatives are not what the buyer has chosen (and paid for).

·Sep 10, 2026 at 12:16 AMI see that on my sales too. It does not mean the buyer got a choice when you only offer one shipping service. Just strange page coding. Just means that is the shipping to be used.

·Sep 10, 2026 at 12:11 AMI don't know where you are seeing this buyer selected, but I do not read any Ebay messages which are not flagging an exception from normal processing .

·Sep 9, 2026 at 11:56 PMI offer just one shipping method and get that 'buyer selected' message - I'd forgot about it because it was so minor, but yeah, there it is. Probably not worth making a yes/no toggle for that particular little message so they didn't code it in.
As for the shipping - they need to do what other sites do: "Label created" then "your item has shipped" when it has been scanned. But the site likes to do the over-promise and under-deliver on some of this stuff.

·Sep 10, 2026 at 12:28 AMI've encountered other online merchants that send a "Shipped" message triggered by the mere label purchase. There's one in particular (a DIY vape supplier) who give themselves 5 business days to ship, AND TAKE ALL OF THEM EVERY TIME, but send that bee ess email the day after purchase every time too. It's so irritating, I wouldn't buy from them if there were any other supplier of the particular items.

·Sep 10, 2026 at 2:15 AMYeah, that's annoying. I deal with a woodwind/didge horn/sound therapy shop that takes forever to ship, too - I sat on my hands for two weeks worrying about a $315 flute being sent by Fedex Cheap n' Slow, and I was due to go out of town. I know they're a small shop and also give lessons, inservices, so I'm cool with it taking a while to get an order together, but I wish they'd given me an ETA, even if it was two weeks out.

·Sep 10, 2026 at 11:16 AMDo you own a didge horn? I always thought that would be a wonderful thing to play if you lived in an apartment complex, especially in the middle of the night "BBWWW-OW-OWW-OWWWW!!!!!!
When I was 17 or 18 my best friend played bagpipes and one night she brought them and played them in Waffle House where I was working 3rd shift. It just about deafened everybody but I think they liked it.
It amazes me just how insanely loud some instruments are, the ones meant to project over long distances outdoors. They just don't have any 'indoor voice' option at all, huh?

·1 month agoMaybe eBay purposely creates these nothingburger "problems" to give sellers something to focus on besides the company's actual sketchy practices and dysfunctional features.

·Sep 9, 2026 at 11:50 PMAs indicated by my multi-emoji selections, I'm pleased, also a bit surprised, and a bit humored, that you agree (considering you're the OP of the post, complaining about a nothingburger).
But yeah, there are some serious wrongs we don't discuss here enough, in my opinion.

·1 month agoWhen the shipping method in the listing isn't actually available to purchase, Media selected but item not in MM category for example, or in your case no option at all, then eBay will put the 'buyer selected' icon on the next best thing (by it's thinking). You can see the option the buyer actually selected in the order details pane to the right.
This has been happening for ages, just ignore it. No doubt if they fix it something that can't be ignored will go wrong..

·1 month agoIf you have economy shipping, that's what the buyer chooses.
The message is just that a message, no big deal.
luckythewinner
·1 month ago · EditedThe buyer can only choose form the options you give them.
What was the item number? We can tell you what you offered if you are not sure.

·1 month agoThe buyer can not "dictate" the shipping method.
They can only choose the methods of shipping YOU set up when you made the listing.
mam98031
·1 month agoA bit over the top, but OK, if that is how you feel. However some sellers do offer different shipping options to buyers. So just because that hasn't been anything you have experienced doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
How is this hurting you? Why are you allowing this to annoy you so much?
shire123
·1 month ago@mam98031 It kind of bothers me too. VERY rarely I will get the same message and wonder why the buyer is able to choose a delivery method. As all my listings state "standard delivery" I have never figured out why some buyers were able to choose a method when I don't allow that. (again, very rarely, maybe once or twice a year).
The problem comes when the buyer selects a method that is a lot more expensive than what the listing was set up for.
mam98031
·1 month agoI simply ignore it. I have more important things to chew up my time being concerned about. While a minor annoyance for sure, it has been this way a long time.
gurlcat
·1 month agoIf that happens then you must have accidentally offered a choice without realizing it. You can swear up and down that you didn't, but without a fresh recent case to look at, there's no way to prove you had only 1 carrier/tier offered. If it does happen again, and you can't see why, please start a post about it.
But the OP of this post is complaining about how it always says 'Buyer selected' even thought there wasn't a choice.
