buyer says my description wasn't correct
I sold a $75 Brooks Brothers tie for $15 but now a month later, the buyer says my description wasn't accurate enough. he says my tie is wider than the 3.5 inches described, and he sent me a photo showing a ruler and it being in betw 3.5 inches and 3.625 inches wide. I sold the item as-is, no returns. what should I do?

·11 months agoIf it truly is between those two measurements, you could explain that it is standard to round to the nearest half inch. Which would be the case with the item that you sold. You can explain that, but I would offer up a return if the buyer is truly not satisfied.
honestly, 3 1/2 inches is pretty wide – anything more than that might just look goofy on some folks. I wouldn’t wear something that wide. My guess is that the buyer finally tried it on and noticed how big it looks. I’d probably label it as wide, 3 1/2 inches when selling. Otherwise, you’re just going to get somebody that doesn’t understand how wide that really is.

·11 months agoI expect the tie looked nice at the party, or job interview, and now the buyer has no use for it.
The perennial problem of selling clothes online.

·11 months agoHe's claiming a not as described for about 1/8" inch? How would anyone even know that...or care?
My guess is he probably just doesn't like the tie and if he tried to return it as "doesn't like", that's a remorse return and you could refuse it. So he (like a lot of other buyers who know how to game the system) came up with this lame "not as described" excuse so that you would have to accept the return and pay shipping to get it back.
I'm like the others, I would want to get it back before giving him a refund.
And just a reminder,

Buyer's significant other must be named "Karen". (my apologies to any Karens that are not "Karens")

·11 months agoI would do nothing unless an INAD was filed. I would not even respond. And by the way, in cases like this I use the phrase "measures approximately" in the description.

·11 months agoIf it's been over 30 days since the date of delivery, you don't even need to reply if you don't want to.
If it's been less than 30 days, politely ask them to start a return. They may be bluffing and there's a fair chance you won't hear anything about this again.

Has the buyer actually filed for a return from you, or are they merely "shaking your tree" to see what falls out?
Has it been, as suggested above, past the thirty days eBay allows for a buyer to make such a claim?

·11 months agoI would make the jerk send it back. That would at least make my day knowing they had to exert effort repacking and getting it to the USPS.....
(even if it costs me a couple bucks extra)
That tiny discrepancy is pretty obviously a ploy to try and get a refund without a return.
So, advise the buyer to initiate a return request through ebay's automated system.
(I do have RMA enabled to control the return label).

·11 months agoNo returns only means you don't want the item back. It doesn't mean no refunds. All sellers have to abide by the eBay 30 day money back guarantee. If the buyer opened a return, you must either refund in full or provide the buyer with a return label.

Actually no returns mean you do not have to accept remorse returns, and Ebay will usually back the seller up in that case. Has nothing to do with not wanting the item back in case of a snad.

·11 months agoWhat date what this item delivered? Customer has only 30-days from delivery date to use EBAY 30-Day Guarantee.
There is no such thing as "no returns". EBAY 30-Day Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no returns" policy) and allows customer to return item by lying and claiming "not as described, counterfeit, defective, missing parts). EBAY does NOT require the customer to prove their claims. EBAY always rules in favor of the customer. EBAY will force you to refund (purchase price + shipping BOTH ways).
Options are to ask customer to "return item" (you will forced to refund purchase + shipping BOTH ways). Or just you can give them an immediate refund (purchase price + original shipping) and let them keep the tie. Third option would be to ask customer if they are willing to "keep tie" and you will refund a "couple of bucks" just to settle this matter.
Sorry this happened to you...sounds like this person just wants "something for nothing". Be sure to add them to you "blocked bidder" list.

·11 months agoIf it has been within 30 days of them receiving the item and they open an INAD case then you will either be accepting the return and paying for return shipping and giving them a full refund OR you can refund without them sending it back.
You have to decide if it's worth paying to get it back and giving a full refund.
