Buyer says item smells like smoke... But I don't smoke
I recently sold a wallet and shipped it to the buyer on 11/25/22. The item was delivered to the buyer on 11/30/22. I just received an email from the buyer today (12/3/22) stating that wallet smells like smoke and did I have any advise on how rid smoke smell. I explained to the buyer that since I don't smoke I didn't know what she should do. I also explained that all of the bags I sell I have personally purchased and I am the original owner. I did offer her a refund if she wanted. How do I protect myself and my rating as I have never had this happen before. Also, the item was delivered 3 days ago and I just now receiving this from the buyer. Any words of wisdom, suggestions, and or comments would be greatly appreciated.

·1 year agoI realize this was a few years back, but this "smoke odor" scam is getting worse because they're getting away with it. They want a partial refund and keep the item.
I have a customer that is pulling the "smoke smell" scam.....I am tired of this. I'm not the only one, either, they do many sellers this way. She lowballs me ($40), I lower the price (some are listed $100), she gets it, wants a partial refund because it "smells like smoke".....she didn't want a free label, she wants the item AND get a refund. Then she's going to threaten with bad feedback, and will change it if she gets money back.
I read other sellers feedbacks, you learn lots, see patterns, etc. I also am friends with other sellers. we've all been through this same scam, and we are fed up. Surely the fraud team is seeing these patterns.
Now she says a second package smells like smoke, it's an outright lie. But, she doesn't want to return them for a full refund, she wants $$. Disgusting.
