You have nice things for sale and you have actually been doing well with selling. It's a shame you have let this one sour transaction make you decide to end selling on eBay but it sounds like you have made up your mind that you no longer want to be associated with eBay.
After things cool down a bit, maybe you will change your mind about leaving. Other sites also have problems, maybe not the same problems, but problems nonetheless. Whatever you decide, best wishes to you with your future endeavors.

·3 years agoI'm sorry that happened - those were nice bracelets, but it's what the industry calls "shrinkage". Accepting returns means that you can at least deduct for the damage so you may want to consider that, but there's no way to say that selling online does not have some risks. If this is the only time this has happened in years, that's at least good odds.
BTW, most online platforms operate similarly.

·3 years ago@bettysbatsintheattic I am so sorry you are dealing with this bad buyer.
The first thing I recommend doing is reporting the buyer for returns abuse. This does not get your money back but it does go on the buyers record.
Report buyer:
https://spd.ebay.com/RBASellerHub
Buyer misused returns> Returned an item after they opened, used, or damaged it
It is too bad that you didn't have buyer pays return shipping on your listing since you are a TRS seller then you would have been able to reduce the refund amount by 50%, not perfect but better than a full refund.
Since your return policy is for buyers remorse returns only it's best to offer buyers away to return items that ALSO provides you protection.
I am very afraid to say that since you have no way to prove that the bracelets were not damaged prior to shipping that eBay is most likely going to rule in the buyers favor. If YOU or the Buyer ask eBay to step in and help and they rule the case in the buyers favor you get a defect and you do not get your sellers fees back.

·3 years agoIf these are the two silver bracelets you sold on July 12th, you sold them as no returns, so that would negate your ability to withhold up to 50%. I'm presuming this was an INAD case since it was accepted, and the system will auto refund the buyer completely. You may still be able to sell them, at a lesser cost, so don't throw them away. Jewelry makers or crafting people will still be interested. Best of luck to you....

Why would it do that if the seller chooses to allow the return? The system only auto refunds for two reasons. One the seller has their account set up to auto process return requests or two they allow the buyer to ask Ebay to step in and they force the seller to refund.

·3 years agoIf @bettysbatsintheattic has not issued the refund by the end of the second business day
eBay auto refunds the buyer a few minutes after midnight California time, regardless weekday, weekend, holiday.

OP3 years agoI sold them as mexican silver because one marked Mexico, the other was marked 925.Buyer said 1 was nickel, My mistake, I offered partial refund they wanted to return, so I sent a label, figured I could sell again.Get them in both have wire cutter marks 925 looks like tried to cut in half.Sent photos, called , I should not have to give money back. Its not right. There scrap now.Not wearable.Like I sold them.As wearable.Ebay telling me to call back.Right.Why, to let the clock run out. Then say it's too late to do anything, buyer already refunded.Im so sick of eBay I've been on here 19yrs.It just keeps getting worse on sellers

·3 years agoYou have to look at the bigger picture.
You sold 123 items in 90 days, so about 40 a month.
One $40 sales goes belly up- not a bad percentage.
How would you like to go into the shop and MAKE items that are sold, only to have a buyer return half of the 8 items sold and get a full return (although I did hold back $100 of the $240, then for some reason ebay decides to tell me that they 'refunded' him the rest)... but, again, that is 1 of 500 orders.
It's just the way of doing business on the interwebs and if $40 of $3000 is an issue, you are doing good.
It's not like there are many other venues you can sell on, country wide, while listing/selling/packing in your PJ's at 3am. (try dragging stuff to a local auction or swap meet at 4am every Sat/Sun).

OP3 years agoIt's the point. And I'm making half of what I used to.Ebay is losing buyers and sellers, But there profits are growing up.Why? Because they keep taking more and more out of our profits. But don't stand behind us.I half to hustle for those 40 sales a month. So far this year, 40percent of my sales are selling costs. That's not including cost of Goods.I can't be letting people, beat me.Like the 180 records back in Jan. I got beat out of too.I worked hard for my store tating, product, sales.I built it over 19yrs. That should count for something, when dealing with a bad buyer.Im going to do like others start phasing out ebay.Let the other seller that stay, start paying 20percent to promote
mam98031
·3 years agoThat is not likely why.
The CEO has spent most of the time the last few years growing and promoting more high end items being sold on Ebay. The interesting numbers to see is the number of actual completed transactions over the last few years. It is likely that more high end items are selling and less of the lesser expensive items.
They are also growing Promoted Listings. Now any fees paid to Ebay from this program is the seller's choice. They have control over the additional fees they pay to Ebay for a sale. Promoted listings is a very old marketing tool that Ebay did not adopt until 2015, but really started pushing it the last couple of years.
Your 40% selling costs could not be all Ebay fees. Some would have to be the cost of shipping. Many sellers consider that part of their Ebay fee when they purchase it through Ebay, but it isn't. It goes to the carrier as none of us actually get free shipping. Your Ebay fees and shipping costs are part of your COGS [cost of goods sold] too.
I don't even use Promoted Listings. Most sellers don't use it and most listings are NOT promoted. The clutter on our listings just make us feel like there is far more than there is.

·3 years agoThe 'point' is reserved for those that are not professional and not a business person. You are.
So, again- stop it.
Business is business (even for thieves) but taking it personal just does one thing:
Cut off your own nose to spite your face.
What- stop selling? Stop making 40 sales a month so you can be 'right'?? Ridiculous thinking at best.

OP3 years agoAgreed, so that's why I accepted return and sent a label. He left out the part that he tried to cut them and ruined them in the process, trying to check silver content. These were not sold as scrap. They were wearable.Checked his store he sells jewelry He knew exactly what he was doing.Ive been beat.Ebay will refund him 100 percent I'm out shipping to and from and what I paid for them

You can't fix stupid. Your buyer is a jewelry seller and has never heard of or does not own a metal spectrometer? NUTS!!

·3 years agoYou have 48 hrs to refund the customer from the time you receive it. There is no time to 'find another way' as ebay will refund for you and give you a big fat ding for them having to do it.
The system is like this; if you are TRS, you can refund 50% (the most), and you need to explain why as well as attach a picture. You only get a few of these so decide if this is where you want to use it. There is not a 'shown' amount of times you can do this, but trust me; someone is counting.
Contacting anyone anywhere will probably only net you the above advice; mostly because you have NO PROOF that you didn't send them that way in the first place.
mam98031
·3 years agoI have no idea why you got that advice, but the first thing I noticed is you shouldn't be "calling" Ebay. They can call you, but they typically are not allowing us to call them anymore.
You need immediate help since you need to respond to the claim within 3 business days as you do NOT want the buyer to ask Ebay to step in as that will get a defect on your account.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/eBay/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.
