Buyer returned the wrong item
So the buyer ( scammer) bought a leather jacket then returns because it didn’t fit or something. When I received the package it was the wrong jacket and different brand. I immediately report this to ebay so it became a case. Ebay asked for my identity and signature. This morning the case is close, ebay said I’m not at fault and they covered the refund to the buyer. So the buyer still get to keep my good leather jacket and her money? That’s just insane!

·10 months agoSimply require an RMA for returns and a refund will NEVER be automatically approved and/or given to the buyer. (see Account Settings (hover over name on upper left, click )

·10 months agoYou got lucky, they covered the refund.
They could have refunded the buyer from your account.

·10 months agoCorrection: You got lucky, eBay let the buyer steal from them instead of you.

·10 months agoI will just chime in and say "seller protection" is not limited to one instance. As a seller on ebay you have certain protections just like buyers do. AS LONG AS you do everything you are required to do CORRECTLY as a seller.

·10 months agoBe happy that you got the courtesy refund from Ebay. Most sellers in good standing will get maybe one such courtesy refund depending on factors such as your volume, how many times you have had a dispute, and just pure luck. The insanity is when they refund the buyer with your money.

Agree, but there have been more than few reports on ebay refunding as the poster described...... which I've always attributed to a mistake by Ebay.
There is an option, somewhere (not enough coffee yet to search for it) wherein a seller can choose to auto refund if the amount of the sales is less than "x" (seller fills in the amount).

I'm reading
I accepted the return request, they immediately refunded her before she shipped the boots back.
As Ebay refunded immediately......not the poster....... may need more coffee.....

I read that too - “eBay refunded†—
However there is no policy where eBay would refund the buyer “immediatelyâ€. Only the seller can refund immediately.
eBay may eventually initiate a refund if the return sits open with no action from the seller. But in my experience, even when eBay “gets involvedâ€, they usually send a label on behalf or the seller rather than just a refund the buyer.

Thanks, I missed that. But (and it's been a long time since I've looked at a return claim), isn't there a choice for a seller to check, either "refund after return" or "refund without return". I don't remember eBay just refunding unless a seller tells them to. But I could be remembering incorrectly.

If you are going to sell on eBay, you need to familiarize yourself with how eBay's Money Back Guarantee works. @ladybugmls gave you the details above about the return process.
Since you refunded before you required the boots to be returned, you basically gave the buyer a gift. You gave her a refund which closed the return and there is no way you can now force the buyer to return the boots or force eBay to do anything further. Sorry, this is an expensive lesson, to be sure.

·10 months agoI just had a buyer claim my new boots had a problem. I had her go through the return protocol. Ebay notified me, I accepted the return request, they immediately refunded her before she shipped the boots back. I watched and waited for my new expensive boots to be returned. It will be ` month the 22nd. The buyer is not returning my messages so I reported it. At this point there is a response from eBay saying I reported her and no comment or telling me status nothing and they closed the return the same day I accepted the return. She got all the money and my boots and eBay is not saying anything. Like wait we will be in touch, looking inti it nothing. No tracking number issued for their return. Not acceptable at all. They are expensive boots and I know the heel was not falling off like she claimed. I said fine, full refund just send them back. And no ebay to talk to or them to protect us from fraud. I have been with them over 20 years making them money.

You made a mistake by refunding the buyer before they returned the item.
When a buyer opens a return request the process is:
1. Approve the request
2. Provide a return shipping label
3. Receive the return back
4. Issue refund
When you refund before providing a return shipping label, eBay closes the return & notifies the buyer that the return is closed without any need to return the item.

OP10 months agoThis is really crazy I’m still **bleep**. I’m sorry that happened to you, I guess it happens to most of us sellers. And you don’t even have a choice to click negative it’s always positive on feedback. Yes you can write negative but it’s filtered and the box is still positive so it can be posted. So if you just look at the name and not reading the feedback it still positive buyer. Ohh well I lost a good leather jacket hope she enjoys it so much!!!

·10 months agoDo not write negative feedback for the buyer at all. As you saw, you are only allowed to leave positive feedback, and if you leave negative comments in positive feedback, the buyer can report you and you will have more serious issues.

OP10 months agoA courtesy to the scammer 😂😂😂😂

·10 months agoA courtesy to the SELLER.
The only two people who know for certain what the buyer received are the seller and the buyer. eBay has no way to determine which one is lying, so as a courtesy to the SELLER they are not going to force him refund the buyer.
From what I can gather from reading this board, that courtesy will not happen again. The next time, the seller will almost certainly be forced to refund.
