Buyer refused package and hasn't contacted me at all?
I've been an ebay member for a long time, but haven't sold much. Once or twice per year, so I've never had this problem before.
I sold an item, the buyer paid for it, and I shipped it. A few days later ebay marked it delivered and released my funds to me. Today I just got the package back with "refused" and "return to sender" on it. The package doesn't even look like it was opened.
I haven't heard from the buyer at all. No messages or refund requests or anything like that. My listing had "no refunds" on it. I sent a message to the buyer asking why the package was refused, but I haven't heard back yet. I was just wondering what my options are. Should I report the buyer to ebay? Unfortunately I already left positive feedback after the buyer paid. I'm not doing anything at all if the buyer never responds to me, but I'm assuming they will want a refund. Should I issue a refund? If I do what happens to my shipping costs and ebay fees that I paid.
Thanks for any advice you can give me. In 25 years this is the first problem I've ever had selling.

OP2 years agoThanks everyone. I heard from the buyer shortly after posting this and she asked for a refund. She claims that she didn't refuse the package and was surprised when she saw that it had been refused and shipped back on the tracking, AND that she doesn't want it anymore. I don't believe her at all, but I just issued her a refund minus the cost of shipping. At least I got the item back and it didn't cost me anything but time. Thanks again for your advice.

@epavao
Take another minute to add the user to your Block Buyer List. I'm glad this worked out amicably. Good luck to you.

·2 years agoIf the parcel arrived back, you've opened it, no problems... The customer simply refused it then you refund. eBay will credit you're fee's paid them, shipping is irrecoverable. I don't understand why folks say, "Oh don't refund."
You cant keep peoples money for items not received to them, its that simple, thats law. eBay has no restocking fee abilities albeit maybe they should.

·2 years ago"You can't keep people's money for items not received to them"...Actually, if a buyer is no longer a registered user...and you are told not to send item out but seller did....eBay does not take the payment away from the seller...and does not ask to refund the buyer. If seller does not mail out item yet...eBay does just says do not mail item out...and eBay does not say refund buyer. One would have to wonder if a seller refunds a buyer and buyer is no longer a registered user...will buyer get the refund? Just a thought.
Sometimes eBay sends out emails to the seller after item has already been mailed....for me...all the items were mailed out long before I got the emails telling me not to mail the items out. Never got funds deducted from my account.
People move, pass away, etc. sellers really don't know the circumstances sometimes.

·2 years agoCertainly if eBay is handling on their end then well... There it is.
Other than that yeah, anything can does happen. People move, pass away, get ill, this/that as well as simply refuse delivery. Either way there is no legal entitlement to keep they're money being they alive or an estate. Refusing delivery is certainly nothing new, back when I'd merchant account clauses were in it for that and basically everything under the sun. The fact a customer doesn't communicate means nothing, mail order existed before Al Gore invented the Internet (<--- HAHAHA!).
Be like you and I live in the same general area say... You buy something, $150, I send it and it comes back refused. I don't refund, we go into a court...
"Mr. Entertainment Collectibles... Why did you not refund?"
Mr. E: "Because the customer never communicated back even though I reached out."
"What entitles you to keep they're money and the merchandise?"
Mr. E: "Umm... Well... I... See its like ummm..."
"Well Mr. Stamps happened to be in the hospital having accidently aspirated seven postage stamps."
Mr. E: "Oh... Well... Hmm... How was I to know?"
"His wife refused the package which is of course acceptable."
Mr. E: "It is? Well what about me?"
"Would you think it acceptable if Walmart sent you a TV Set and you refused delivery as you planned buy one at Best Buy and they keep you're money whilst you're in the hospital with US Commemoratives glued to the inside of you're lungs?"
Mr. E: "Well you have point there you're honor."
"Well then there you have it. Refund. I don't want hear another word or I'll burn ya' down like an ole' leaf pile."

·2 years agoNo, there's nothing to report to eBay. And IMHO it made no sense to contact the buyer. He is not entitled to a refund, so don't risk putting any thoughts into his head.
