Buyer refunded and appeal closed day before item arrived
I am in the US, I shipped a $750 item from Florida to the Virgin Islands. The package was sent out on the 2nd of December, it was sent priority. After a week and no delivery I called the post office and all they could tell me was that it was still in transit. Tracking on the eBay side also showed “in transitâ€. Fast forward to December 30th, still “in transitâ€. called usps once again, they told me it was in transit and there’s nothing more they could do. I was in contact with the buyer the whole time, telling him the info I had. The buyer submitted a refund request on the 2nd of January, I was hesitant to accept it because of the dollar amount of the item. eBay then issued him a refund on the 5th of the full $750. I submitted an appeal on the 6th and sent the tracking info. eBay said no and closed the case. The item was delivered the day after. They are telling me there is nothing I can do because the appeal is closed. Now the buyer has the item and the 750 back in his account, and I am out the item and the 750. Is there anything I can do?

·1 year agoYou can contact the buyer and ask if they'll repay, but nothing you can do if they won't.

·1 year agoNot the first one of these I have seen on this forum. EBay likes to think it is Amazon and actually has something to do with the shipping logistics. Other than a couple of special processes, mostly EIS, eBay has NOTHING to do with the logistics. Unfortunately cases like yours happen for a variety of reasons.. You could hope you have an honest buyer and work with them to get your money back but you will have to that outside of eBay. You could open a chargeback with your bank for the funds that were removed unilaterally from your account although eBay may take some punitive action in response to the chargeback.
As a side note the only thing you are actually out is what you paid for the item, the fees and the shipping cost and while not much of a consolation those items can be written off your income taxes.
Since you hesitated without responding to the item not received case, the buyer asked eBay to step in first a refund. eBay refunded from your funds and provided you with a defect for not handling your cases. Sorry but there's nothing you can do but write it off as a loss when you file your taxes.
