Buyer purchased twice & cancelled twice
I had a buyer who purchased an item that I had quantity of 5. They put in an offer and I accepted. This was the first purchase. They immediately cancelled. Ok fine, Ive had that happen before. No big deal. So the next day I re-listed the item and I lowered the price too. That evening the same buyer put in an offer, which was lower than they offered the day before. So I sent them the same offer they offered the day before. They accepted. Bought the same item, all 5 of them and they paid immediately. So today, the messaged me wanting to cancel it. AGAIN. So I messaged them back saying I'm not sure why you would offer and purchase and cancel twice. Same item. I told them that I would cancel but they should be more certain they want to purchase before they make the purchase. I said it's not good business. Really strange I thought. So they messaged back telling me that I am unprofessional and that proceeded to tell me that I needed to stay out of their eBay messages or they would take the situation to eBay. So I told them that ok I will talk to eBay myself and report them for threatening me with that. I was plainly telling them that they literally bought and paid and cancelled twice on the same item all in one day. It was very strange. I did report this to eBay and blocked the user. But I feel like I was well within my rights to defend myself in letting them know that this is not acceptable and for future buying to not make this a practice. It's extremely irritating. Of course I will not know what action eBay will take but I'm just curious as to how any other seller would have handled this. Again, once I can understand. But then come back again the next day and do the same thing again? Would you have said something to the buyer? Or should I have just kept my mouth shut, roll my eyes and let it go? I don't feel like I was out of line by what I said but they sure were! Thank you for any thoughts and ideas in advance. Just here for some insights from fellow sellers. Thank you!

·3 years agoYou aren't new here. When a buyer requests to cancel, why not cancel and block?
No need for any remarks.

·3 years agoYou did the right thing! You tried to work with them, but you identified this buyer was trouble early.

·4 years agoMaybe a hacked account and they where playing games, who knows, but, as @7606dennis said, I would have blocked them right after the first cancellation to prevent it from happening again. If you make an offer, it is because buyer is willing to purchase at that price, not make offer, pay & cancel, that's wasting my time as a seller, and preventing other potential buyers to look/purchase my item. Not good business for me.

·3 years agol have a buyer that paid for shams and right away asked to cancel because she has used the wrong payment account. That was in October of 2022. I accepted and eBay withdraw that amount from my bank same day. Then 2 months later, Jan 1st 2022 the same item is sold and paid. Then I get a message from same person saying it's me again and I have made same mistake again using her bank instead of Khlana. I told her I am not going to cancel, I am willing to wait for her payment to clear her bank. I am even suspecting a scam. If the transaction will clear her bank. I should have blocked her the first time. After this is resolved I plan to block.

·4 years agoI would have put them on my BBL immediately following the first cancellation. Have you ever heard the saying, "Fool me once, shame one you. Fool me twice, shame on me?"

OP4 years agoYes I have heard that saying. But I also like to give people the benefit of the doubt. The second time they did this I said something. I didn't let it go. They are blocked and reported. It just amazes me how people get upset when you call them out but It's your fault. LOL! They should have just left it cancelled the first time and moved on.

·3 years agoAs hard as it may be, there isn't any need for remarks or attempts to educate the buyer.
Just cancel and block.

·3 years agoThe problem is shaming a buyer can come back to bite you.
They have the power to create another account, if you can “prove†its them ebay will delete the account (maybe) and remove any feedback.
But why go there? First time I would have canceled per the buyers request and blocked. No muss no fuss.
is there really any benefit of the doubt to be had in this situation? Buyer is wishy washy at best. Someone you don’t want to deal with.

·3 years agoJust posting in general to this discussion. From reading reports on the "buyer" board, there is seemingly an issue with "accepted" offers. When a buyer accepts and offer and begins the payment flow, they are shown the FULL PRICE of the item, not the agreed upon offer amount. It is only when they click the PAY NOW button will the offer/negotiated price actually appear. This is causing some confusion and more requests to cancel. FWIW
