buyer purchased something knowing it was local pickup and has stopped responding?
Hello! First, please note that I am not yet ready to cancel the transaction.
The buyer was very responsive until recently but I haven't heard from them in five days which is concerning.
The buyer purchased furniture that is local pickup only.
We then messaged back and forth regularly for days until I confirmed receipt of funds.
As soon as I received the funds, the buyer indicated they would make arrangements to make a very long drive--across several states-- to pick up the items. He even gave me a window as to which two dates he was likely to arrive in town.
But now, five days have passed since I've heard from him. I have followed up daily and no response.
I paid to boost the post; if I cancel the transaction, am I out the $40 or whatever?
How will it work?
hopefully it won't come to that but it's been five days...

·2 years agoHere it is five days later and OP hasn't been back to update. So, I'm kind of thinking this is what the buyer was going through. Hopefully it gets resolved

·2 years agoI am REALLY hoping @mekristinab comes back to follow up. I am so curious how this turns out

Go to your orders: https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord/?filter=status:ALL_ORDERS
And click on the link under "orders" that looks like this: 12-12345-12345
The buyer's phone number is on the left side, under their name and address. CALL them!

·2 years agoSomeone isn't being honest here... either the buyer or you. Their negative feedback should give you a clue as to what is happening. contact eBay if you need some help. Given the price of the auction, the buyer has most likely opened an item not received case against you and will get their money back
Here's a novel idea....go to the order details find the buyers phone number and give them a call.

·2 years agoNegative feedback by buyer:
"after we paid for sellers chairs we cannot get messages through to the seller to coordinate pickup of chairs we purchased, and we have not heard from the seller since winning the auction."
What the seller posted:
"The buyer was very responsive until recently but I haven't heard from them in five days which is concerning.
The buyer purchased furniture that is local pickup only.
We then messaged back and forth regularly for days until I confirmed receipt of funds.
As soon as I received the funds, the buyer indicated they would make arrangements to make a very long drive--across several states-- to pick up the items. He even gave me a window as to which two dates he was likely to arrive in town"
Unless this is a different transaction, the buyer is either lying, confused or is expecting some different form of communication.

There is only one sold transaction on this seller's account. It is for four chairs, and that is the transaction the feedback was left on (it appears)

Have you looked at your feedback????
Looks like the buyer left a negative that says: "after we paid for sellers chairs we cannot get messages through to the seller to coordinate pickup of chairs we purchased, and we have not heard from the seller since winning the auction."
So it looks like they HAVE been trying to contact you, but you have not replied!
If MY feedback rating went down to 50% positive, I would REALLY try to find out why!

@mekristinab
If you are having issues messaging them, this would be an example where you should call them directly as @rosachs has posted. (If you can find the number) Can't believe you did not noticed your feedback (NEGATIVE) and regardless if it was a glitch with Ebay or if you just missed it, you should try to get a hold of them or refund the sale.

·2 years agoMy heart just sank! I wonder if there's an eBay messaging issue! I tried contacting a buyer after Hurricane Beryl to offer the opportunity to cancel because it's going to be a very long time before they receive their item, and I never heard back from them.
How would we know unless they did something like OP's buyer, and left feedback mentioning no contact? It shows in "Sent" messages, but what if they're never arriving in the appropriate inbox?
😳

I don't think there is an "appropriate" inbox on Ebay message. Not only do I see all my incoming messages, but I get an e-mail notification as well
ltldpr
·2 years agoI just meant seller inbox or buyer inbox.
Neither the buyer, nor the seller (OP) is receiving their messages to each other.
There is no way to know if we are receiving all of our messages if they don't arrive. There's nothing to see if it never arrives. No email alert. No message in the inbox.

·2 years agoMy advice would be to cancel the transaction, but because you said you are not ready to cancel the transaction, my advice would be to cancel the transaction when you are ready.

·2 years agoDo nothing.
There is a very good chance the buyer will never pick the item up or contact you again and you will get to keep the money for your troubles.
I once got paid for the same arcade game 3 times.
I was once also the person who never picked up the paid for item that was hundreds of miles away.
albertabrightalberta
·2 years agoWhile it may be "ebay legal," my opinion is that it's not an ethical seller who would keep both the money and the item if the buyer doesn't follow through on the pickup. (@onefootflipper, to have sold the same item 3 times and not refunded money, I say, shame on you!)
I'd give the buyer a bit more time to arrange pickup but if it doesn't happen, I think the seller should refund the payment less any non-refundable fees that the seller incurred.
onefootflipper
·2 years agoI would agree with you except for the part where they stopped responding.
I am not going to chase down people who wasted my time and money and beg to give them their money back.
Go buy a pickup item from Wal-mart, Pizza Hut, or anyplace else you choose and see if they chase you down to refund your money if you never show up.
mam98031
·2 years agoWhat has that got to do with anything. Anything could have happened to them which caused them not to respond to you.
What "chasing". Cancel and issue a refund in full. You are just trying to justify keeping the money. ðŸ˜

·2 years agoI say good for them.
If the buyer doesn't care, I don't care.
If the buyer wants their money back in less than 90 days...I'm happy to do so.
After that they can go to their payment source. You or I won't and can't stop them from getting their money back if they really want it.
onefootflipper
·2 years agoI doubt you will find many retailers who just refunds pickup orders that aren't picked up.
In the case of these large items it is easy for the trouble put on the seller to quickly become larger than the value of the item.
That $200 arcade game I got paid for 3 times sat in the way by my front door in my living room, ready to be loaded for 6 months. I also couldn't have refunded the people if I wanted to, both had responded to craigslist ads on the phone, came by, looked, paid, said they would get in contact to pick up soon with a truck and instead vanished off the face of the earth. I actually got a phone number for the second buyer but it didn't work.
The one I never picked up was a $130ish dollar broken arcade game that my supposed easy transportation on fell through and I certainly wasn't going to go asking for my money back after I had wasted a pallet sized spot in their inventory for a month and a half.
mam98031
·2 years agoStealing is stealing. You can try to justify it any way you want, but you retained someone else's money that you had no right to.
onefootflipper
·2 years agoNo, the other person purchased property from me with cash and then they abandoned it, in my living room.
Cash transaction and I had no way to refund them even if I wanted to as I had no functional contact information for them, and I am somehow being painted as the bad guy for putting up with a huge machine sitting on a pallet in my living room for six months.

·2 years agoLong story short.....sold a painting (3' X 5') local pickup only
Buyer paid cash and was initially responsive....
Did not fit in buyers SUV (i did tell them it would not)
they will be back with a van or something
@onefootflipper -- 2 months of ghosting.....and I had no intention of refunding (I called it storage fees)
out of nowhere, they messaged me, and came to pick it up almost 10 weeks later
in my case i did not have to make a choice since they abandoned it...but, even if I wanted to, which I did not, I could not return their money to them.
mam98031
·2 years agoWell that is a very dishonest thing to do. It appears you are proud that you took someone else's money that you did not earn. Stealing is stealing, whether it be a buyer or a seller.
I hope no one takes your advice.
rosachs
·2 years agoThat must be some pretty special furniture....
It's possible the buyer is out-of-communications while traveling. Perhaps they don't have a cellphone, or the carrier they use does not have the best national coverage. I personally ran into this years ago... intermittent phone, which was also my internet connection feeding the tablet that was my GPS. Not a lot of fun.
On the eBay order, is the buyer phone number attached? Have you called to inquire about the seeming gap in activity?
eBay does monitor times on sales - time to payment before an order is cancelled, time to shipment before a late shipment is tagged, time to delivery before a late delivery is tagged. If the buyer used the offered Local Pickup shipping option when purchasing, many of the dates become much more fluid. But eventually eBay is going to tell you to deliver or refund.
