Buyer not responding for return request

I have a buyer who purchased a Sonny angel parrot figure. She sent me pictures and it's destroyed and it looks like there was an attempt to cover up the spots with more paint. It doesn't look like the same item because they are hand painted and the paint job is different.
She has 0 feedback and when I requested pictures of the outer package she told me there's no way to add them. I told her she can add them via desktop but so far no response after 5 days. I think this is suspicious because if it was destroyed why didn't she include a picture of the package?
I feel like I'm being scammed. Is there any chance eBay would side with me if I show them proof or am I wasting my time? Is there anything else I can do to at least protect myself in the future so this won't happen again. Should I just refund her to get it over with? TIA

Either it's an entirely different figure as you suspect, or the buyer's pet got their teeth into it and they tried to cover it up with a bad paint job.
Do not send the buyer another message. Wait to see what happens and whether or not they file a return or other type of claim.
As gurlcat mentioned, no response for 5 days is a good sign they may be moving on because you didn't immediately offer a refund.

·1 year agoThe chances are slim if the buyer opens a return case (INAD) stating it was not as described.
There really is not much you can do if a buyer is lying and trying to take advantage of the eBay MBG. Keep packing your items well (as your feedback represents) and always keep communications between buyers professional and polite.
-Good luck

·1 year agoIf it has been 5 days since her last message you are probably in the clear. Just keep in mind she can file an Item Not As Described case at any time, and if she does you won't be able to refuse it, even if you suspect she'll send something other than what you sent.
But I really think the 5 days is a good sign. Like she just hoped you might immediately offer a refund or partial refund from her message, but it failed so now she'll let it go.
