buyer made false claims to open a return request
Hi all, I'll try to be brief. Sold an item brand new, pictures clearly show item factory sealed. After leaving "positive" feedback & 18 days later buyer opened a return request with reason arrived damaged. The item was factory sealed in original packaging, bubble wrapped, & put in another box tight enough that there was no movement of the item in the box. Let me start with her "positive" feedback. She states packed well, DVD with special features doesn't work. So no damage is noticeable to the packaging or the item based on her feedback. But one of the two discs doesn't work which means the DVD case was removed from the packaging, the slipcover taken off, & the DVD played. Now to her return request. She states the item arrived damaged. She sent 1 picture of a corner of the slipcover with noticeable wear to it. She also states she doesn't think the item was brand new because the shrink wrap opened way to easy. She also states the reward points code was missing, which I'm not sure what that might be because there was no mention of the code in any of the pictures or my description/listing of the item. No where in her return request does she mention the disc not playing. I feel this lady is being untruthful. She is an experienced buyer & seller so she obviously knows how eBay works. I know the condition of my item & when the return is forced through she is going to send back an opened used DVD with one disc not working along with the accompanying figurine. I sell strictly part time & have dealt with returns before but not something as blatant as this. I'm on the hook for return shipping which is going to put my loss at a little over $40, which to me and my family is a lot. Is there a way I can fight this or what course of action do you experience sellers recommend? Sorry this post is so long, but I'm obsessed over details. Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance.

·5 years agoI hate to be blunt or short...but to be honest there's nothing you can do in these situations. eBay will always side with the buyer. Especially since Covid began customer service is a nightmare. To be honest there is no customer service - it's a joke. If you want to bang your head against the wall for hours/days on end getting the run around from ebay and still come up on the short end of the stick you aren't alone. You are going to be forced to accept the return...when the item gets returned damaged, different from what you sent, etc. you can try the appeal route...but I will tell you that it's a waste of time. The buyer always comes out on top...and if your buyer knows how to play the system....well you are screwed. Sorry, If its any consolation most everyone on these boards that sells regularly has been down this road. Be thankful it's only $40 & not $400 or $4000. There's a saying everyone uses on these boards...don't sell anything you cant afford to lose out on. Unfortunately it is what it is and part of the game.

·2 years agoYou're 100percent true. This year has been terrible with negative buyers and feedback. No matter what its impossible to recoup your time or money and most times the item. If this isn't the case, then they just leave a negative feedback and you have no recourse. It is tough to be a seller since Covid. eBay needs to make it more clear to buyers and more fair.
Thank you for your clear & honest advice.
Best wishes.

·2 years agoI agree you just need to refund. No way to win this one.
But I will say I bought a DVD series once and one of the disc in the set was blank, so that does happen. In that case I asked the seller to just send a replacement disc.
