Buyer lied about me in feedback- eBay doesn't care
Hello,
A buyer left me negative feedback because they were not satisfied with the product. A week prior they contacted me about the item and I responded instantly asking if they want a refund or a replacement product sent. They didn't respond, so I tried messaging them the next day again. No response, week later they left negative feedback complaining about the product and lying that they contacted me and I didn't respond.
I wrote to them again hoping to solve the issue with no response from them.
Tried getting the feedback removed through eBay since the buyer lied in their feedback, it got automatically denied. Called eBay 3 times and each time the rep on the phone said it can be removed since they buyer is lying but then I get emails that they will not remove it.
Contacted eBay on FB and they said they will not remove the feedback even thought its defamation against me.
What nonsense is this? How is eBay allowing defamation against their sellers?
Anything I can do?
eBay keeps telling me to work with the buyer, the buyer doesn't respond...

How much time have you spent fussing about this $14 order? Why are you not concerned about the $65 order that also got negged?
Where I live the minimum wage is 29c a minute. You've been involving yourself for over 24 hours with this negative.
The neg reads:
I thought this was a good price for this. However, this lotions is obviously NOT new and is old. It's runny like water. I tried contacting the seller and got no response.
A suggested Response which puts the ball back in the buyer's court
"I regret you are unhappy with your purchase. Please return it for refund."

·1 year agoIf you feel that strong about it, you could contact the eBay Facebook group which would listen to your complaint. As others have said, move on and reply politely and professionally. It is not that big of a deal and I would also buy from you with this feedback.

OP1 year agoSo its okay if in my response I put the buyers used ID? If eBay is okay with them lying, they should be okay with me exposing them.

·1 year agoWhen you respond to the FB, your response will be seen immediately beneath the FB you're replying to. Shouldn't that be enough identification?

Remember, this isn't personal. The buyer doesn't like the item they received and left feedback stating their displeasure. It's not libel, it's not defamation and you're making a much bigger deal than is necessary.
I get that no one wants negative feedback, especially when they believe it's not warranted.
Just block the buyer and move on. You're renting this buyer too much space in your head.

OP1 year agoI agree mostly, but the buyer lied that I didn't respond to them. That's the defamation I was talking about. It makes it seem like I don't respond to buyers concerns. I literally responded to the buyer 1 minute after getting the message, and then followed up the next day. Didn't hear from them again.

You can respond to the feedback and let buyers know they can return for a refund if they're not happy with the item?

OP1 year agoI think so, been selling items with hemp for a while. Looks up Hempz lotion, lots of sellers.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Just disappointing that eBay is okay with lies on their platform.

BTW, I use Hempz lotion. I have many bottles of it. I got a free bottle to review and I've been buying it ever since. It's a great product and you can get it pretty much anywhere. I first bought it on Amazon but my local chain grocery store, Jewel/Osco carries it as as well. So if they can sell it, probably anyone can.
As for your feedback, remember it isn't easy dealing with the public. We're dealing with all kinds. So she didn't like the product. I would still buy from you. When I check a seller's feedback I don't care too much about the negatives ... I mostly care about how the seller responds to it.
So a nice professional reply will go a long way to counteract the negative. I would "nicely" state that you did reply back both times and that you would like to resolve the issue. Something to that effect. Nothing snarky in there (although I know you feel like it, we all do) ... remember you're really talking to your future buyers in your response. I would leave the reply & move on. That would be my suggestion. If we do this long enough, all of us have had things said in feedback that just isn't true. ~ Best of luck! ~ 🙂

OP1 year agoThank you! It just annoys me, the whole idea of not being able to remove feedback that has a lie.

·1 year agoeBay usually will feel that the FB was representative of the buyer's feelings about the transaction and will thus not remove it.
The phone reps will tell you what you want to hear just to get you off the phone.
Have you considered a very diplomatic and calm reply to the FB, mentioning that you'd have been glad to refund if you had known they weren't happy. You might also mention that you DID respond and were awaiting their reply.

But we are giving you policy and personal experience.
The buyer was unhappy, that's their opinion and they expressed it.
I didn't see any violation in what they wrote.
Nobody is against you here but not every neg FB is removable.

You have tried to get it removed and it was not, that kinda shows we are being honest.
I don't wish that NEG on you, I wish you luck getting it removed BUT if you don't; use my suggestion for a professional reply.
Like @chevymontecarlo88 you can try social media but they may find it was an opinion.

OP1 year agoDid you just report one of my listings for having drugs??? After you asked about hemp, my listing just got removed. Hemp is not a drug.

Last I knew, it wasn't allowed, so that's why ask you about it.

·1 year agoIt's oil from the seeds. Incredibly healthy. Many uses. Wife's been using Hempz for a while, loves it.
BTW people, there's no 'weed' involved in the plant that hemp products comes from. It's absolute nonsense to be equating this persons product with drugs.. (not pointing at you powell, I laughed too)

The good news is; you have a chance to reply to it professionally. Reply for the potential buyers that will read your FB. "I pride myself on customer service and would have been happy to rectify the situation if I had been informed" Or something along that line.
The FB wouldn't stop me from buying from you.. /just sayin'

·1 year agoSorry -- the FB the buyer left is not a policy violation. Buyers who feel they had a bad experience here are allowed to use FB to express their displeasure.

And how is lying that I didn't respond an opinion? It's a fact, they lied about me. That is defamation.

·1 year agoIf Ebay interferes with FB it can be held responsible for defamatory FB not removed. If Ebay does nothing other than a very small number of removals, it can retain its immunity from liability for the content of FB.
Our government has set incentives which negatively impact some sellers.
You are responsible for the resolution of all disputes with your buyers. Whether they are reasonable people or not, honest or dishonest, truth tellers or liars. Keep that in mind when any post-sale issues with buyers occur.

OP1 year agoThanks I. did try to work with the buyer. They refuse to respond, didn't even open up a return. But did leave negative feedback. The feedback they leave for sellers is scattered with negs and neutrals.

·1 year agoThis world includes some people who are not people we would choose to deal with. You can block the buyer from further purchases but the FB is likely to remain.
Fortunately, fewer buyers read or leave FB, it is a relic of the days then buyers on Ebay had no recourse and because of a strong and vocal small number of believers marketplace sites are loathe to put it on the ash heap of history.
