    Buyer Fees

I have been selling on eBay for 21 years.  The last few years with the increase in sellers fees have cost a lot of money if selling anything at a higher cost. Also, all the changes as to what a buyer can or cannot do have become silly.

However, I now basically only sell Jigsaws, etc for about £4.00 plus postage. I cannot imagine anyone is going to want to pay almost another £1 for such an item.

Therefore, I have decided I will be joining countless others ands moving to Vinted and also will try eBid.

EBay have become greedy beyond belief.

What changes have occurred in what a buyer can and cannot do?

And are these changes site wide?

Ebay isn't increasing fees on the seller.  They are testing out Buyer Fees starting in February in the UK.  You can possibly know how that will affect your sales until it is implemented.  These aren't fees that you pay, but the buyer.

If I would faced with this.  I would not make any big decisions until I see how it plays out on the site.  Will the buyers go for it or not.  I certainly don't know.

Unless you are using promoted listings, which is a seller inflicted fee, then the eBay final value fees have not gone up that much in over 10 years. You are in the UK so not familiar with your postal costs but the shipping costs in the US is what has gone crazy on average about 33% in the last 4 years.

That is an urban legend or an old wives' tale. Ebay final value fees are about identical to 2011.

This is definitely NOT true especially for Categories such as Media.

My fees used to run +/- 14% (including PayPal), they are now in the 17+% range, that is almost an 18% increase.

Only if you buy shipping from eBay.......I can count on one hand the number of shipping labels I have bought on eBay in the last 26 (wow!) years.

And because Ebay does that, so many sellers come here talking about paying these high percentages to Ebay in fees when part of that is shipping costs.  I've always disliked how that give these numbers.  IMHO they should separate them.

    Really?

Not sure of the exact dates, but for a long time the eBay FVF on Media was 13% - not the 10% it was on everything else. The PayPal fee brought it up to 15.9% of the total sale + 30 cents.

The FVF rate today is 14.95% of the total sale + 40 cents.

If you are selling items which are that inexpensive, I have doubts that they are worth the effort of selling on Ebay when you allow for your labor.

I have many items which I think are marginally worth my effort a $8 ($7.20 when I run a sale).

Ebay's fees are competitive with other marketplaces which have traffic and higher than those which do not.

I would urge you to wait before abandoning ebay.........if it's presently profitable to you........  Just because you "think" people won't pay an extra pound.......doesn't make it so......  If, after experience, the system doesn't work for you...certainly you need to find another place to sell........but quitting on a mere supposition may be the wrong thing to do.

That's the cost of doing business. All costs have gone up and continue to go up. There is nothing anyone can do about the fees. You either pay it or don't buy/seller on the internet.
