Buyer expects tax included
Just Curious did I miss something or is it just the summer heat.
A Seller ask if I would accept $600 for two items with free shipping. I answered I could to $650 with free shipping, He was ok with that. I put the items together in one listing and added best offer $650.
today I got this! I placed an offer for $610 and with the tax it came to $650.14, but it was declined.
Should Sellers now cover sales Tax too?

·1 year agoThe buyer agreed to $650 with free shipping. I get that but why did you add or Best Offer? I don't understand your thinking on that.

·1 year agoI can see how a buyer could expect that you do the math to figure out how much you need to charge in order for him to pay a total of $650. It isn’t how I would make offers, but I get it. When I discuss an offer - over messages – with a buyer, I make sure to clarify that my price includes the item and shipping, but any taxes are additional.

Ironically, I was charged with buying gifts for both of my siblings last Christmas... no more Secret Santa. Max each, $15. So... at $15.00/1.0925 (my state/local sales tax on item + shipping-if needed + 9 1/4%), I had a whopping $13.73 (bought local, online/s&h considered, wherever...) to spend on each of them. We even had to prove our purchase prices with receipts. 🤔
Do you know that I explained that to two sellers (with a slightly lower, odd offer amounts), and they both accepted? 😀

You are allowed to deny it.

·1 year agoWhat does "but it was declined" mean? Did the buyer tell you that?
Is this a new buyer that didn't know about state sales tax?

OP1 year agoNo he is not new he even sold a few items. But in his mind my lowest price included Sales Tax. So he took the sales tax of the $650 and offered $610. And of course, the offer was declined.

·1 year agoOK, if the offer was declined, then currently you and this buyer have no transaction going, right?
And, to answer your question, there's no eBay requirement that a seller cover state sales tax.
You could message that buyer and say something like: No, the sales tax is the responsibility of the buyer.
If they actually paid, can you ask them if they'd like to cancel.
